Apple TV+ today debuted the trailer for "Platonic, the upcoming 10-episode comedy series starring and executive produced by Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen and co-created, directed, and co-written by Nick Stoller and Francesca Delbanco.

The half-hour comedy will make its global debut with the first three episodes on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, on Apple TV+, followed by new episodes weekly, every Wednesday.

Platonic follows a platonic pair of former best friends approaching midlife (Rogen and Byrne) who reconnect after a long rift.

The duo's friendship becomes all-consuming—and destabilizes their lives in a hilarious way.

In addition to Rogen and Byrne, the ensemble cast includes Luke Macfarlane, Tre Hale, Andrew Lopez, and Carla Gallo.

Platonic is produced by Sony Pictures Television, where Stoller's Global Solutions has an overall deal. Byrne, Rogen, Stoller, Delbanco and Conor Welch executive produce.

Exclusive: Toni Braxton is extending her decade-long relationship with Lifetime and A+E. The Grammy-winning singer, actress, executive producer and entrepreneur has entered into a production deal, in which her Braxtoni Productions will oversee and executive produce multiple projects for the network. The production company will be headquartered at Lifetime’s LA offices.

Lifetime and Braxton have had a long history of collaboration with Braxton most recently executive producing the movie, A Christmas Spark featuring the on-screen reunion of Jane Seymour and Joe Lando and the two films under the Fallen Angels Murder Club banner which Braxton starred in and executive produced in 2022. Braxton previously starred in, and executive produced the Lifetime movies Faith Under Fire with EP Td Jakes (2018), Everyday is Christmas (2018), Twist of Faith (2013), and her Lifetime biopic, Toni Braxton: Unbreak My Heart (2016).

Mo McRae’s face may be more recognizable than his name. As an actor for more than 20 years with over 60 credits and counting he’s worked steadily, appearing on TV and in film in such roles as Benjamin Berry in “The Flight Attendant,” Blip Sanders on the short-lived “Pitch,” and Gus Henderson in “Den of Thieves.” Now he’s moved behind the camera as the co-writer and director of “A Lot of Nothing,” his feature film debut.

Officially, the film is about an uber-successful Black married couple whose perfect lives are knocked off kilter when they learn via the evening news that their cop neighbor, who is white, has killed a kid. In a time where the police killings of Tyre Nichols in Memphis and George Floyd in Minneapolis are front of mind, they assume that the victim is Black and decide to get answers. And that’s when everything goes wrong.

Just a few weeks after The Purge 4 title was revealed to be The Island, the first two lead cast members have come aboard for this Purge prequel. Y'lan Noel (Insecure) and Lex Scott Davis (Training Day) are the first actors to officially sign on for the project, although it remains to be seen how many more main characters are still needed for the cast. While it hasn't been confirmed when production will begin, it will certainly have to begin soon, since the prequel is already set to hit theaters next summer.

The Tracking Board first broke the news, although there were no details given about the characters they play. James DeMonaco, who has written and directed all of the Purge movies and is also developing a Purge TV series, revealed in May that this story will take place during the first experimental Purge night, which happened on Staten Island, before this annual tradition went nationwide.

Lifetime is getting into the Simone Biles business.

The cable network announced on Friday that it has greenlighted a television movie about the five-time Olympic medalist, tentatively titled The Simone Biles Story.

Based on Biles' book, Courage to Soar: A Body in Motion, A Life in Balance, the biopic will follow Biles through the years of sacrifice and perseverance that led her to becoming an Olympic champion. As a member of the Final Five women's gymnastics team in 2016, the 20-year-old gymnast's journey from foster care to the Olympic podium is full of life experiences that serve as an inspiration for every little girl with a dream.
