If you’re a fan of cinema, you’ll know the name Christopher Nolan. The director is one of the very few modern filmmakers who still gets to bring bold, creative visions to life on a blockbuster scale. The reigning champ of the intellectual box office hit, Nolan has enjoyed a storied career in Hollywood thanks to his consistency in producing pulse-pounding cinema that also has the capacity to make you think. His obsession with the theme of time, invisible special effects, and multi-layered plot structures have dazzled film viewers for decades at this point.
Nolan studied English Literature, believe it or not, at University College London. While at university, he was the president of the Film Society and met his wife and future producing partner, Emma Thomas, on campus. His first feature film was 1998’s “Following,” but his career really took off with the groundbreaking “Memento” (2000). The Guy Pearce...

When Christopher Nolan came up on stage to receive his first Golden Globe, he called actor Cillian Murphy (who would soon get up on stage to receive one for Best Actor) his partner-in-crime for twenty years. That says nearly everything about the relationship between the two stalwarts of their craft.
Nolan and Murphy have worked on six films over the past twenty years, beginning with, well as the name suggests, Batman Begins. While the ace filmmaker has worked with several genius actors of this generation such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale, and Robert Downey Jr., he reportedly called Murphy the greatest of his generation.

Hans Zimmer is one of the most accomplished musical talents in cinema history, but beyond his recognizable and moving scores is a series of motivations, and what can only be described as a gentle, joyful, and creative generosity that the world finally sees on full display in Hans Zimmer & Friends: Diamond in the Desert. Many of us were fortunate enough to attend a screening and Q&a with Zimmer hosted by Collider and ScreenRant in Los Angeles where Zimmer and multiple members of his band watched and discussed the film alongside us. A once in a lifetime opportunity for the audience turned into deeper layers of insight into the man and the music.

Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey is easily one of the most anticipated films of 2026, and just like with all the Academy Award-winning director's films, he has assembled an all-star cast, and now some key roles might be revealed. Nolan's follow-up to Oppenheimer, the Academy Award winner for Best Picture in 2023 and a film that grossed $975 million worldwide, is none other than The Odyssey.
The Odyssey, along with The Illiad, is one of the two great epic poems written by Homer and one of the world's most iconic pieces of literature. Christopher Nolan has now set out to give the epic tale a definitive film version like no other.
Discussing Film is reporting that Greek media outlets are reporting some of the roles of the actors in The Odyssey. Matt Damon is, of course, playing Odysseus, and Anne Hathaway will reportedly play Odysseus' wife, Penelope. Tom Holland is Odysseus and Penelope's adult son,...

Every generation or so, filmmakers endeavor to bring audiences into the nightmarish experience of armed conflict, and a new standard is set in the process; that is precisely what Alex Garland and Ray Mendoza have done with Warfare. In a historic live screening event at the Legion Theater at Hollywood Post 43, Warfare was shown to veterans, select media, and some of the filmmakers with a Q&a that followed and dug into the process that allowed Garland and others to join Mendoza's mission to bring his actual experience of one day in the 2006 Ramadi conflict to the screen.
Films such as Black Hawk Down, Saving Private Ryan, and Dunkirk all come to mind when considering seminal moments in the medium where filmmakers utilized the tools available to take audiences into the experience of the combat veteran. Warfare takes it all up a notch, stripping away a lot of the...

Alex Garland's 2024 dystopian thriller Civil War was an unflinching look at what could be the future of America, and though that film was based on fiction, his new film with co-director Ray Mendoza comes from the latter's experiences as a former U.S. Navy Seal. Titled Warfare, the A24 movie is set to release next month, and first reactions from critics who saw an early screening have thus far had nothing but good things to say about it.
Drew Taylor from The Wrap calls Warfare "almost unbearably tense," while also adding that it’s a "you-are-there combat movie free of nearly all frills." He continues: "Excellent performances from the young cast, with Garland and Mendoza working beautifully together. Also has one of the most incredible sound mixes ever — see it in the loudest theater." Erik David from Fandango and Rotten Tomatoes echoed those sentiments, calling Warfare "the most intense...

Hans Zimmer is still not interested in joining the MCU.
The two-time Oscar-winning composer has previously said how he’s “retired” from working on superhero films after 2016’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice was apparently “very hard” to work on. He’s already worked on The Dark Knight trilogy, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Wonder Woman 1984 and X-Men: Dark Phoenix. However, when it came to teaming up with Marvel, officially, he’s declined.
“Are you yourself kind of superheroed out? I’m kind of surprised the official MCU has never come calling or if they have, you’ve said no?” Josh Horowitz asked Zimmer on Thursday’s Happy Sad Confused podcast episode.
Zimmer responded, “They have, and it was always — timing wasn’t great. And really, quite honestly, I’m looking for other things right now. Look, I’ve done the trifecta. I’ve done Batman, Superman, Spider-Man and Wonder Woman!

Originally released in 1977, A Bridge Too Far is nearly five decades old. For some fans of war movies, the film has been forgotten, but its availability on a new streaming home could bring some renewed attention to the acclaimed classic.
Currently,A Bridge Too Far is streaming on Prime Video. Directed by Richard Attenborough and written by William Goldman, the film was based on the original book of the same name written by Cornelius Ryan. It delves into the story of what's known as Operation Market Garden, a failed Allied operation against the Nazis in the Netherlands during World War II.

British filmmaker Christopher Nolan has established himself as one of Hollywood's brightest talents and among the very finest directors working today. His filmography ranges from the bombastic sci-fi spectacle of Interstellar to the dramatically charged Memento to sweeping war epics such as Dunkirk. No matter which genre or subject matter Nolan wishes to take on, it can be assured that it will be executed with technical precision and monumental scale.

Following the shocking and concerning news that Amazon will take over creative control of the James Bond franchise, a new frontrunner for the coveted role of 007 has now emerged. And he’s a real slow horse. The latest name favored to lead the iconic franchise is none other than Scottish actor and Slow Horses star Jack Lowden, who has seen his odds improve in the wake of the behind-the-scenes overhaul.
The 34-year-old actor, who is also best-known for roles in the likes of '71, Calibre, Fighting with My Family, Capone, Benediction, and Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk, has seen his odds rise to 8/1, according to Oddspedia, putting him alongside other 007 favorites Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Henry Cavill, and Theo James.

On the weekend, I wrote an opinion piece about how Amazon/ MGM should approach Christopher Nolan about potentially directing a James Bond movie. According to a new report by Variety, the director was open to possibly helming a 007 movie shortly after the release of Tenet but was subbed by Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson. Why? According to the report, it was because Nolan, as fits his stature, wanted final cut, and the 007 producers absolutely would not relinquish it to him – as no director in the franchise’s history has ever had a final cut.
Indeed, the report retreads a few old stories, such as how Steven Spielberg wanted to make a 007 movie in the seventies but wasn’t given the green light by Albert R. Broccoli. Spielberg famously took the ideas he had for James Bond and put them into Raiders of the Lost Ark, so...

Few can reach the same heights as the esteemed Christopher Nolan. Like most prolific directors, his films cover a wide range of topics. He’s worked on superhero films, thrillers, and mind-bending fantasies. However, in recent years, his most beloved works have fallen firmly into the “war film” genre. Oppenheimer is his most recent release, but it was preceded by Dunkirk. The eye-popping war thriller debuted in 2017, and it’s still entrancing audiences years later. Its success is, of course, bolstered by Nolan’s credibility and reputation. Its sweeping scenes of mechanized carnage and warfare are impossibly compelling, and its narrative is equally engrossing. However, the film isn’t the only cinematic retelling of the daring Dunkirk evacuation.
Decades earlier, in 1958, the famed Richard Attenborough starred in an equally harrowing recreation of that fateful day. The film, also called Dunkirk, has since been overshadowed by Nolan’s updated version. However,...

Venom: The Last Dancebrings Eddie Brock's story to a dramatic conclusion, with the 2024 Sony hit now set to be released on streaming. The film depicts a symbiote invasion of Earth orchestrated from the shadows by the villainous Knull, forcing Eddie and Venom to protect their world from the extraterrestrial threat. Meanwhile, a shady government organization also hunts the pair, giving them yet another obstacle in their final adventure.
The Last Dance introduces plenty of new characters, some of whom have a major role in the Marvel Comics universe. The sequel also features several major actors joining the Sony Spider-Man Universe for the first (but perhaps not the last) time. These are the most important characters that fans need to know before they see Venom 3 on Netflix when it hits the streaming service on February 25.

Though the sound branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences merged the best sound editing and best sound mixing Oscars into one category for best sound in 2020 (Sound of Metal was the first combined winner in 2021), there are still two organizations that honor sound work separately, both of which are hosting their awards ceremonies this weekend.
The Motion Picture Sound Editors and Cinema Audio Society represent sound editors and sound mixers, respectively. For years, the awards that they present — both their nominations and their winners — were studied for possible clues about what to expect from the sound branch of the Academy.
The Academy’s sound branch — which is currently comprised of 551 people, or roughly five percent of the organization’s total membership — has always solely determined sound-related Oscar nominations. And it has always then been joined by the rest of the Academy in determining the sound-related Oscar winners.

Did You Know Barry Keoghan Once Asked Stan Lee To Make Him A Superhero? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Barry Keoghan’s journey from a fan to a Marvel superhero is a remarkable example of manifestation. He once expressed his desire to join the Marvel universe, and years later, that dream became a reality.
Back in 2013, before Hollywood knew his name, Keoghan took his shot. He tweeted at the legendary Stan Lee, hoping to land a superhero gig. No response. No acknowledgment. Just a young actor manifesting his dream. Fast forward a decade, and boom—he’s in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If that’s not the definition of speaking things into existence, what is?
Keoghan plays Druig in Eternals, a film introducing a fresh batch of heroes and some serious cosmic drama. But what makes this even better? His journey from a hopeful tweet to standing among Hollywood’s biggest stars in a Marvel movie.

Naval war films are a specific genre within the military historical fiction genre of cinema. Within them also reside submarine films and court-marshaling dramas that question the ethics of law, justice, and the chain of command. From enemies creeping in the depths with nuclear weapons to pirates swinging from ship to ship flashing cutlasses at each other to plunder gold, the intrigue of battle and order on the high seas has always captured the attention of audiences.
Many great classics show great naval battles and crew dramas, but not all of them fall under this category. The incredible Ben Hur involves a whole story arc within the galleys of the Roman Fleet, where the titular character is enslaved and is caught in a major sea battle. Unfortunately, the film's connection to naval warfare moves on from there, or else it could certainly thrive among those that zero in on naval...

In terms of modern filmmaking, it's hard to do better than Christopher Nolan. Even dating back to his early works such as "The Prestige" and "Memento," it was clear that this man was something special. Everyone is going to have their favorites and yes, to an extent, film is a subjective medium. That said, Nolan's broad critical acclaim coupled with his ability to deliver a commercial hit makes him unrivaled in the 2000s. Rather quantifiably, he has proven himself to be the most consistently bankable director working in Hollywood today, and one pretty eye-popping stat proves it.
Nolan had a run from 2008 to 2017 that was, in a word, ridiculous. Alex Ross Perry revealed an unexpected inspiration for “Pavements,” his experimental musical biopic concert film about the American indie band Pavement: Christopher Nolan’s Oscar-winning epic “Dunkirk.” Speaking at the International Film Festival Rotterdam, where he is screening both “Pavements” and “Videohaven,” the indie director called Nolan’s effort “one of the most structurally incredible, miraculous scripts ever written.”
“This is a hundred-million-dollar World War II film that, to me, had to be my influence in making this documentary,” he continued. “It has three storylines: one that takes place over a week, one that takes place over a day, and one that takes place over an hour, and 80% of the way through the movie all of them converge at the same point at the same time. I had never seen anything like this done in a script before. It works when you read it and it works when you watch it.

You might expect that a man who has been doing production and set design on feature films for more than 30 years would be a bit jaded, and that earning a seventh Academy Award nomination for his work would be met with a shrug. But that’s not how it’s been for Nathan Crowley. Instead, the man who has made a career of being Christopher Nolan’s go-to production designer exudes joy and excitement while discussing his Oscar bid for Wicked on the eve of final voting on Feb. 11.
“I just wish we could do it all again,” asserts Crowley (watch his full Gold Derby interview above). When his interviewer expresses surprise at this declaration given that the usual feeling is one of relief, he assures, “I think we’ve all been spoiled, because nothing will live up to that experience. I look back on the two years I was...

I'm not saying that watching a war movie about the rising tide of fascism and the choices we make to either give in or fight back feels oddly relevant these days ... but, well, maybe that's exactly what I'm saying. If there's any genre that we can rely on to comment directly on our present-day political climate, after all, it's this one. In recent years, WWII films have given us high water marks such as "Oppenheimer" and especially the disturbing horror of "The Zone of Interest." But, like clockwork, we always seem to get an annual slew of titles ranging from "forgettable" to "downright misguided." It's frustratingly common to make an undistinguishable feature that either tips into jingoistic territory or settles for shallow inspiration. It's much more difficult -- yet rewarding -- to create something both timeless and urgent with one immaculately-crafted effort.

Tom Hardy portrayed the character of Eddie Brock in Sony’s Venom franchise for six whole years. While the star is known for playing rugged characters on screen, it was his first time being part of a superhero franchise. Needless to say, he won over the fans very quickly with his fantastic performance.

As such, questions about his experience and preparation for the role have hounded the fans for a long time. Surprisingly, Hardy admitted in an interview that he wasn’t quite sold on the idea at first. What changed his perspective, though, was none other than his son.
His son was the one to properly introduce him to the character, and so when he got the script for the movie, the tug of war between the primal and logical self drew him in, and hence the titular character came alive...

What do you do when you’ve been to the vast reaches of space, reversed the temporal flow, ventured into the dreamscape – and, most importantly, swept the Oscars? With a three-hour, doom-laden, politically-driven historical drama, no less? In the wake of Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan could do basically anything. His choice: go full Homer with an adaptation of epic Greek poem The Odyssey. It should add a new quiver to the legendary director’s bow – his first swords-and-sandals epic, possibly his first fantastical film, and one that brings him a new leading man.
With pre-production rapidly ramping up on Nolan’s next movie, here’s what we know so far:
Tom Holland is said to be the lead
It’s been a while since we’ve seen Tom Holland on our screens – following Uncharted and Apple TV drama The Crowded Room, he’s been treading the boards on the West End in Romeo & Juliet.

Christopher Nolan’s next big epic at Universal, The Odyssey, has added Himesh Patel, Elliot Page, Bill Irwin and Samantha Morton.
For Patel, Page and Irwin, it’s a reteam with the 2x Oscar-winning filmmaker. Patel starred in Nolan’s 2020 Tenet, Page in 2010’s Inception, and Irwin in 2014’s Interstellar. For 2x Oscar nominee Morton, it’s her first time working with Nolan.
The foursome join a booming ensemble that counts Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Benny Safdie and Charlize Theron.
Nolan’s mythic action epic, shot with new Imax cameras, is based on the ancient Greek poem by Homer which follows Odysseus, King of Ithaca, and his perilous journey home after the Trojan War. The classic explores themes of heroism, loyalty, cunning and the struggle against divine will. Films that depict World War II exist across many decades of the history of cinema, starting even as the war was continuing to rage on. These films have the ability to transport the audience to a world that was torn apart by one of the most costly conflicts in modern history, putting viewers in the shoes of the fighters and bystanders in one of the defining moments of the 21st Century.
Some of the best World War II films are ones that closely follow real historical events, using true stories about real people to tell even more captivating tales. Period pieces that are able to accurately depict real events, especially events that had such a profound impact on the world, can create some of the most impactful and interesting movies of all time.

In the annals of Hollywood war films, there are many that movie fans would consider epics. The Thin Red Line, Saving Private Ryan, Hacksaw Ridge, and Dunkirk are some prime examples. However, there are Westerns and stories involving indigenous nations that are right up there.
Michael Mann directed The Last of the Mohicans over 30 years ago, which is an epic historical drama based on James Fenimore Cooper's novel and its 1936 adaptation. As powerful as that movie was, however, Netflix's American Primeval actually updates a key romantic arc that was present in The Last of the Mohicans: Uncas of the Mohicans and Alice Heyward.

There are only so many directors in the annals of cinema who audiences know by name. Yes, movie buffs can rattle off the names of plenty of filmmakers, from Guillermo del Toro to David Lean and many, many others in between. But for regular audience members, there's only a few who earn the same name recognition of big-deal movie stars. Currently, there may only be four: Steven Spielberg, Christopher Nolan, Quentin Tarantino, and Martin Scorsese. Think all you like about these auteurs, but they've made so many excellent, memorable, iconic films that audiences know their work and their names so well you can just list out their surnames.
However, due to the fact that all of these men continue to make films in the era of review aggregation online, and because there are so many critics from which to select when you visit sites like Metacritic or Rotten Tomatoes, it's...

Why does Christopher Nolan have a strict no-phone policy while shooting? (Photo Credit – Facebook)
Christopher Nolan aims to create a distraction-free environment, which is the key to creating cinematic magic. “Phones have become a huge distraction, and people work much better without them,” he once told Esquire.
This method isn’t just about cutting out unnecessary noise; it’s about immersing every member of the crew into the “bubble of alternate reality” required for his films. At first, it wasn’t easy for everyone, Nolan admitted, but over time, even the skeptics came around. “I’ve had a lot of crews thank me,” he alluded.
And it’s not hard to see why. Nolan’s sets are like clockwork, each cog crucial to bringing his intricate visions to life. His movies are experiences. From the mind-bending twists of Memento to the intense spectacle of Dunkirk, every frame screams dedication. And keeping distractions at bay?...

What Did Christopher Nolan Say About Netflix’s Movie Streaming Strategy? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Christopher Nolan has always been a staunch defender of the theatrical experience, from the massive IMAX spectacle of Dunkirk to the intricate storytelling of Inception. So, when he lashed out at Netflix for its streaming-first approach, it was no surprise. “Netflix has a bizarre aversion to supporting theatrical films,” Nolan asserted in an interview with IndieWire.
“They have this mindless policy of everything having to be simultaneously streamed and released, which is obviously an untenable model for theatrical presentation.” For Nolan, cinema’s magic is in theaters—big sound, towering visuals, and shared vibes. Streaming doesn’t compare. Dunkirk proved it, with its land, air, and sea action peaking on IMAX.
Netflix backed films like Okja and The Meyerowitz Stories, but Nolan wasn’t sold. “The investment that Netflix is putting into interesting filmmakers and interesting...

The first movie that Christopher Nolan made for a big Hollywood studio is still the most underrated film of his career — and even the director himself agrees. Ever since his groundbreaking Batman reboot made him a household name, Nolan has practically been a franchise unto himself. Along with Quentin Tarantino, he’s one of the only filmmakers whose name alone can attract huge crowds to movie theaters. No one else could make a blockbuster out of a three-hour biopic of a physicist, but Oppenheimer became Nolan’s highest-grossing non-Batman movie (and third highest-grossing film overall).
Nolan is one of the only directors left who can command a nine-figure budget for an experimental original story. He earned enough trust with Warner Bros. to get them to commit as much money to movies like Inception, Interstellar, and Tenet as they would a reliable comic book movie. Hans Zimmer, the composer behind works of art like the music for Interstellar, The Lion King and Dune, believes that one of his contributions to Christopher Nolan's filmography is his most challenging. We're talking about his very complicated score for Inception, in which he "manipulated the very fabric of time."
Time is an essential concept for Nolan's groundbreaking heist thriller starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. In the film, a gang of high-end criminals gets hired for the ultimate hit: in the near future, humans are able to infiltrate the subconscious and navigate dreams. These criminals are able to extract information that their victims don't want to reveal. But what happens when a request forces them to actually implant an idea deep into the subconscious of a very powerful man?
Well, that's not all that happens in Christopher Nolan's Inception. It sounds glamorous, and Nolan's visuals will convince you of this.

There have been a plethora of fantastic films that cover all manner of events that occurred during the Second World War, from Saving Private Ryan to Dunkirk. What both of these films and many more in the genre focus on is the parts of war we all hear about but cannot fully understand the brutality of until we see them. Yet war breeds more than brilliant strategy, disturbing imagery, and conquest. It also breeds the truly ridiculous turned marvelous — when strategies and missions that should never work become the very thing that wins the war. That's what people loved about The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, and that's certainly what makes the historical drama Sas: Rogue Heroes such a delightfully entertaining watch, as a band of "mad bastards" single-handedly change the tide of the entire war in Africa and create what would become one of the most prestigious army divisions of all time.

One of the most successful actors and directors that the world has ever witnessed, Clint Eastwood remains a pop-culture icon even at the age of 94. Bursting onto the scene with his ice-cool breakout turn in Sergio Leone's Dollars trilogy, Eastwood would go on to cement his status as cinema's quintessential badass with his bow as anti-hero cop Harry Callahan in the wildly popular Dirty Harry movie series. Complementing his best movie character roles with a string of acclaimed directorial efforts over the years, the American also boasts four Academy Award wins from 11 nominations.

Hans Zimmer names Inception his most technically innovative film score. Directed by Zimmer's frequent collaborator Christopher Nolan, Inception was released in 2010 and earned over $839 million worldwide. It starred Leonardo DiCaprio among an ensemble cast and followed a group of people with the ability to infiltrate and influence others' dreams. It earned positive reviews and was nominated for eight Academy Awards, winning four.
In a recent interview with Vulture, Zimmer reflected on the creative process behind the Inception score, explaining how he manipulated the very fabric of time through music. He described Inception as a perfect example of this technique, where different musical elements at varying tempos intersected in harmony, creating a soundtrack that was as integral to the storytelling as the visuals. Zimmer also touched on his work for Nolan's Interstellar. Check out his comments below:

Cillian Murphy Discussed Interstellar (Photo Credit – Facebook)
Cillian Murphy and Christopher Nolan? That’s a collab for the ages. Oppenheimer just added another epic chapter to their nearly 20-year partnership. But even with all the badass roles Murphy’s had in Nolan’s films, there’s one flick he totally wishes he’d been in — Interstellar.
In an interview with The Independent, Murphy admitted that he’s often fantasized about joining the 2014 space epic. Interstellar has always been a deeply emotional experience for him, especially after seeing it in theaters with his young kids. “I adore Interstellar just because I find it so emotional,” Murphy confessed. “I remember seeing it in the cinema when I had little kids. It just had a big impact on me. It broke my heart.”
However, Murphy wasn’t bitter about not being cast in the film. He recognized that Nolan made the right choices with the film’s cast.

In the layered and complicated history of DC’s live-action film industry, one of the most iconic films to ever come into existence was Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy. Spanning the eras of birth, evolution, and death, the three films rewrote DC history through the enigmatic lens of Nolan’s visionary saga.

Nolan’s Dark Knight saga too came under fire for representing a worldview that was deemed problematic by some fans. Although art is always up for interpretation and exploration, fans can often lend the wrong meaning to a project, thus ruining its central message and making it divisive among fans, as a result.

Christopher Nolan’s new movie is going to be epic by default, as it is almost impossible to consider a movie version of Homer’s The Odyssey as anything else. However, a recent report has seemingly revealed the equally epic cost of Nolan’s new venture, and it is going to be one of the most expensive movies that he has ever made, surpassing Oppenheimer, Tenet, and even his Batman trilogy.
Nolan has made several costly movies in his years as a director since spending just $6,000 to make his first feature movie, Following, in 1998. He was not given the keys to the bank immediately though. In 2000, his twisting thriller Memento cost $9million, The Prestige came with a $40 million price tag in 2006, and war drama Dunkirk cost $100 million just over a decade later. Of course, it was taking on a new chapter in the on-screen Batman franchise that saw Nolan’s budgets soar to over $200 million.

Christopher Nolan's Oscar-winning movie that made $740 million at the box office has landed on Netflix's Top 10 US chart a decade later.
