Nicolas Cage is preparing to make a sinister splash with his latest psychological thriller The Surfer, which is crashing into theaters on May 2, 2025. Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions released the first trailer and poster for the "sun-beaten terror" (seen below), showing that it's not just the weather bringing the heat in this sizzling new feature, as Cage plays a father who gets embroiled in a turf war on the beach. According to the movie's official synopsis, the conflict quickly reaches a boiling point.

"A man returns to the idyllic beach of his childhood to surf with his son. But his desire to hit the waves is thwarted by a group of locals whose mantra is 'don't live here, don't surf here.' Mortal Kombat is one of the most successful action media franchises of all time, but it has pretty much the same story as every other video game that got adapted into a live-action project: A disappointing series of events. That said, it’s quite surprising that someone as famous and riding hot on the success of The Boys as Karl Urban would want to join the franchise.

Not only was he made an official member of the Avengers during the New Avengers storyline, but Luke Cage more recently became the mayor of New York City, giving him political influence on top of his physical power. But now, Luke Cage is being reinvented like never before, with a vital new purpose in the new Ultimate Universe.

In Marvel Comics' solicitation for The Ultimates #9 by Deniz Camp and Chris Allen, its revealed that Luke Cage will be making his official debut in Earth-6160. The cover art thats offered (by artist Dike Ruan) features Power Man standing behind prison bars, handcuffs attached to one hand and a familiar orb being held in the other, all while Tony Starks Iron Lad looms over him.

Neon marketing executive Christian Parks reflects on the unique promotion of Longlegs that led to its surprise box office success, sharing that it had an interesting connection with Jaws (1975). Directed by Osgood Perkins, the horror-thriller follows FBI agent Lee Harker (Maika Monroe) as she tracks an elusive serial killer played by Nicolas Cage. Marketing for the movie didn't fully show Cage's character, building anticipation for the film and hyping the actor's drastic transformation. The tactic worked and Longlegs became a major box office hit after hitting theaters in July.

In a recent interview with THR, Parkes reflects on the massively successful Longlegs marketing campaign and, crucially, the decision to leave Cage out of it. The executive reveals that not showing Cage was a move inspired by Steven Spielberg's Jaws, which memorably makes the shark an even scarier villain by showing it very sparingly on-screen:

Neon marketing executive Christian Parkes told The Hollywood Reporter that his campaign for the horror film focused on appealing to the genre audience as opposed to relying on the star power of actor Nicolas Cage, or showing any of its thrills in trailers.

“From the jump, we said we need to respect the horror audience, the genre audience, because they’re largely underserved, I think, by distributors and studios,” Parkes said. “If we treat them with respect, if we talk to them on their terms and on their level and bring them along, they will invest in this film, carry this film and make it their own.”

And that’s exactly what horror fans did: “Longlegs” went on to gross $22 million its opening weekend and ultimately made $75 million domestic...

Nicolas Cage’s status as a national treasure is being cemented by the Metrograph.

The New York City-based theater has announced a “Nicolas Uncaged” festival to honor the acclaimed star. The 10-film retrospective opens November 8 at Metrograph In Theater, and will feature 35mm showings of “Con Air,” “Moonstruck,” “The Wicker Man,” and “Wild at Heart.”

“Heaped with praise and panegyrics as one of the finest screen actors of his generation, pilloried and parodied as an anything-for-a-paycheck hambone with a weakness for weird wigs and prostheses, Nicolas Cage is a one-man sideshow, a mixture of Marlon Brando, Robert Mitchum, Lon Chaney, and a stick of TNT who takes back ‘serious thespian’ prestige whenever he wants to, dives into grindhouse material and Academy Award hopefuls with the same mad enthusiasm, and never seems to be having anything less than a total blast in front of the camera,” the Metrograph press statement reads.

The first footage of Longlegs director Osgood Perkins shared with distributors Neon was a short clip showing the Nicolas Cage reveal.

“It was a very tiny piece of footage, a very early image and I’ve never seen anything like that,” remembers Neon boss Tom Quinn. “If it wasn’t Nick Cage [doing that performance] it would be absolutely batshit crazy,” “The fact that it was Nick Cage made it times 10. We thought: ‘If Cage is doing that, we have to be involved.”

“What triggered it for us was hearing him,” adds Neon marketing head Christian Parkes. “It was unlike anything we’d heard before. It could only have come from Cage. It was: this is something that we have to take really seriously.”

Lukas Haas, Cameron Britton, Cary Christopher, Michael Kostroff, Scott MacArthur, Joe Massingill, Whitney Rice and Amanda Schull have joined the recurring cast of Spider-Noir, the upcoming MGM+ and Prime Video live-action series based on the Marvel comic Spider-Man Noir. From executive producers/co-showrunners Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot and Sony Pictures TV, Spider-Noir tells the story of an aging and down-on-his-luck private investigator (Cage) in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero.

In addition to Cage, the series also stars Lamorne Morris, Brendan Gleeson, Abraham Popoola, Li Jun Li and Jack Huston.

Spider-Noir is produced by Sony Pictures Television exclusively for MGM+ and Prime Video. Harry Bradbeer is set to direct, and executive produce the first two episodes. Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot will serve as co-showrunners and executive producers.

Uziel and Lightfoot developed the series with the Academy Award-winning team behind Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse: Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Amy Pascal. Lord and Miller executive produce for their shingle Lord Miller. Amy Pascal will also serve as an executive producer via Pascal Pictures. Spider-Noir will debut domestically on MGM+’s linear channel and globally on Prime Video.

Oscar- and multiple BAFTA nominee Brendan Gleeson is joining the world of Spider-Noir as the show's villain. Series protagonist David Banner (Bill Bixby) is depicted as a lonely, tragic figure, hating the fact that he, when enraged, turns into a green monster (played by superstar bodybuilder Lou Ferrigno). Indeed, in the TV show -- unlike the original Marvel comic books -- Dr. Banner first started experimenting with strength-giving radiation after he witnessed his wife die in a car crash. Ryan Reynolds confirmed in a recent interview with Collider that he got in touch with Nicolas Cage and asked him to reprise his role of Ghost Rider in “Deadpool & Wolverine.” The record-breaking Marvel blockbuster features a handful of actors reprising their comic book characters of yesteryear, from Jennifer Garner’s Elektra to Chris Evans’ Johnny Storm and Wesley Snipes’ Blade. Reynolds wanted Cage to join the film’s epic roster of cameos.
