Actress Shahana Goswami, best known for her roles in films such as ‘Rock On!’, ‘Midnight’s Children’ and ‘Tu Hai Mera Sunday’, said that she has actively chosen roles which “challenge conventional narratives” to represent real women.

She said: “I have actively chosen roles that challenge conventional narratives, opting for characters that break away from cliches. I want to represent real women who one can relate to.”

Bollywood veteran star Neetu Kapoor will be seen sharing screen space with actor Sunny Kaushal and Shraddha Srinath in Lionsgate India Studios’s first feature film.

The coming-of-age story will capture the beautiful and relatable relationship between a mother and her son.

Neetu said: “When I read the script, I fell in love with it. It goes beyond the regular mother-son story and explores a different side that sets a unique tone to the rom-com genre.”

Using comedy as its main premise, the untitled film, directed by Milind Dhaimade, delves into the integral fabric of families, communication, and memories, as well as their role in forcing us to grow up.

Directed by Milind Dhaimade (2016 London Film Festival selection “You Are My Sunday”), the Hindi-language film is a comedy revolving around a mother and son relationship. It stars Neetu Kapoor (“Jug Jugg Jeeyo”), Sunny Kaushal (“The Forgotten Army – Azaadi Ke Liye”) and Shraddha Srinath (“Maara”).

Indie musician Amartya Bobo Rahut, who recently released his song "Kaisi ho", says it is tough to make a name for yourself in the independent music arena.

"It is tough to reach out to people and build your fan base independently without the backing of an established music label or the framework of movies with stars who promote your music. But it is also a lot of fun, since I can make the songs that I wanted to make and produce them exactly the way I always wanted them to sound, without any external interference," he said.

Rahut is known for his singles "Shaam simiti", "Chup chup" and "Mere Aulia". He has also composed the independent album "Om: The Fusion Band" with Amit Trivedi and Shriram Iyer, as well as scored music for the films "Darbaan", "Tu Hai Mera Sunday" and "Uttarayan".

He says lockdown has helped him focus on making more music.

Mumbai, May 23 (Ians) Actress Shahana Goswami feels web shows have ushered better quality of writing, which in turn creates scope for actors like her to prove their versatility.

In her latest show "The Last Hour", Shahana plays a police officer who, along with another male counterpart, sets out to unravel a murder mystery. Did she feel she was a strong female character in the otherwise male-dominated world of the story?

"I think when something is well written, there's a natural balance about the portrayal of each character in it. When I am saying balance, it means we do not need to highlight a character only because he is a male or a female character but giving substantial space for each of them. When it comes to my character in 'The Last Hour', where I play an investigating police officer, it was about the contribution of the character in the narrative.

Mumbai, March 28 (Ians) Actress Rasika Dugal has always been known for essaying strong characters. However, she says that there was a time when she got bored of playing the same roles.

The actress adds that sometime back she was only offered roles of women who were "morally upright" and she never found them to be very realistic.

"For the longest time, I felt that the kind of roles that I was being offered were morally upright. You don't usually see that in life," she told Ians.

She says that a lot of male writers tend to make the women in their stories very nice.

"A lot of men writing women characters do this disservice. They make the characters very nice. I was a tad bored with it. I was missing complexity. But then, I got several roles that were were different. I am totally enjoying this phase," she says.

Actress Rasika Dugal feels the careers of no two actors is ever the same, and no actor can have the same experience as others in the profession.

Rasika made her Bollywood debut in Bollywood in 2008 with "Tahaan". She was then seen in projects like "Tu Hai Mera Sunday" and "Hamid''. She was also seen in Ott series as "Mirzapur" and "Delhi Crime", and the digitally-released film "Lootcase".

Rasika says she doubts herself almost "everyday".

"I just think that because I have had many years of experience I know how to possibly manage my self doubt around certain things a little better than others, but as the years go by your career changes. There are new challenges everyday and the difficult thing and interesting thing about this career is that there is no one way to do it," Rasika told Ians.

"Your career cannot be a mirror image of somebody else's.

Milind Dhaimade’s directorial debut feature, Tu Hai Mera Sunday (You Are My Sunday) will have a World Premiere at the prestigious 60th BFI London Film Festival, as part of the festival’s Love Gala on 15th- -16th October.

Depicting a story about 5 recreational footballers and their everyday struggle in Mumbai, the film will also have its India Premiere at the Jio Mami’s 18th Mumbai Film Festival, 2016 in the competition category, India Gold, which screens the best of Indian films from across the country.

Produced by Varun Shah, the movie features an ensemble cast, including TV star Barun Sobti (Star TV’s hit show Is Pyar Ko Kya Naam Doon) along with Shahana Goswami, Rasika Dugal, Avinash Tiwari, Vishal Malhotra, and Maanvi Gagroo.
