Lionsgate, the movie studio behind The Twilight Saga and Borderlands, claims it can turn any movie from its film catalog into anime within three hours, thanks to AI. This bold statement comes nearly one year after Lionsgate invested in the AI startup Runway in September 2024.

New York Magazine recently published an article about Hollywood's not-so-secret love affair with AI, citing numerous business suits who believe this controversial generative prompt technology can enhance creative filmmaking by eliminating the creatives. One of those suits highlighted in the article was Michael Burns, the 66-year-old vice chairman of Lionsgate, who inked a deal with Runway, one of many AI prompt-generative companies sued by a group of artists over copyright control of their work in 2023 and was approved to move forward in August 2024. Burns claimed AI could be used to revitalize their films by fine-tuning them for a younger generation, such as making them appear like anime.

James Cameron announced that his company Lightstorm Entertainment has acquired the rights to “The Devils,” a new book by author and screenwriter Joe Abercrombie, for which Cameron will co-write an adaptation for the screen.

The book is a dark fantasy novel that draws from classic horror tropes. It follows a priest on a holy assignment who discovers the mission he serves is filled with murderers, dark magicians, and monsters, meaning that if any of them are to reach God, it will require bloody means. The book just released last month and hit #1 in the UK and #5 on the New York Times Best Sellers List.

For a relatively obscure, low-budget thriller, 1977’s Death Game has had a remarkably long afterlife. It was remade in 1980 under the title Vicious And Nude, and then again by director and co-writer Eli Roth, this time as Knock Knock, in 2015.

Horror filmmaker Eli Roth is ready to develop his next terrifying movie. While we wait for the follow-up to 2023's holiday slasher Thanksgiving, it looks like Roth is setting his sights onto a new project called Ice Cream Man.

Media Capital Technologies (McT) and Roth's own independent studio The Horror Section will fully finance the film (via Variety). Given that Roth is relatively well-known in the filmmaking world, it might come as a surprise that his movie is getting the indie production treatment, but when you learn more about Ice Cream Man, you'll understand why.

Notably, he claims it will likely be his "most terrifying and insane film to date." And considering this is the man that brought us the Hostel franchise, that's saying something.

The first Hostel is still considered one of the most disturbing horror movies ever made, perhaps most infamously for the graphic eyeball torture scene that happens near the end.

Borderlands 4 is scheduled to be released later this year, and the developers promised a smooth experience. Modern video games are meant to feature the flashiest of graphics and fast load times, and Gearbox Studios ensured this project has all of this in spades, unlike some other projects with wasted potential.
