The new Idle Hands is penned by Billy Bryk and Finn Wolfhard (of Stranger Things fame), and it will be produced by Jason Reitman. Presumably, a story about demonic possession will be a pleasant change of pace for Reitman after the hellish nightmare that is Saturday Night Live’s backstage politics.

Meryl Streep is celebrating 10 years of The Writers Lab with the 2024 lineup of female and non-binary screenwriters to watch.

Academy Award winner Streep has funded The Writers Lab since 2014, and the program is still the only offering in the world dedicated exclusively to elevating the work of women and non-binary screenwriters over the age of 40. Nicole Kidman has also supported the Lab, which is the only program in the world for mid-career screenwriters.

This year, the program is working with 14 writers across 12 projects, with Labs now operational in the U.S., Canada, U.K., and Europe. The 14 selected women screenwriters will gather in early November in Saugerties, New York to focus on tools and strategies to navigate the ever-shifting landscape of professional opportunities and build sustainable careers.

Megan Leavey is an uplifting film that tells the story of a young Marine corporal, Megan Leavey (Kate Mara) who develops a bond with Rex (Varco), a dual-certified working dog (meaning Rex was used for both bomb detection and patrol). They work together for two deployments in Iraq, where they are both injured by a bomb. Leavey is awarded medals, and, at the end of the film, Leavey successfully fights to adopt Rex after his bomb-sniffing days end. The film is based on a true story, and for the most part sticks to it, but as is the case in most films based on a true story, Megan Leavey also embellishes (or outright ignores) the facts.

Prime Video has touted the viewer response to Fallout as its second-biggest series ever worldwide over 16 days of release. In the United States (and over a shorter time period), it’s No. 1.

“Such a weird habit that I’ve got into today,” says Dan Tapster, the showrunner for Life on Our Planet. “I’ll say, ‘Yeah, we were there to film mammoths. Yeah, people, we’re here to film a T-Rex.’”

And yet, there isn’t really a better way to describe what the team of Life on Our Planet had to do for years to create the footage that makes up the documentary series. Of course, being CGI VFX, the prehistoric stars of the series are a good deal more compliant than the stars of your average nature documentary. But it also required much more planning.

After providing competitive prices for decades, the closure of the online shop is a shock. The move comes as Crunchyroll continues to seek new avenues to expand its online services.

Right Stuf, which has operated since 1987, has provided DVDs, Blu-rays, figurines, manga, and various other products for sale and delivery. While it was purchased earlier last year, the shutdown of the store and brand in favor of Crunchyroll feels sudden. While products will migrate to the new shop, there are still many unknowns about how the Crunchyroll Store will handle the new stock.

Washington, Aug 31 (Ians) A team of NASA scientists is in the final stages of preparing for the arrival of the first US asteroid sample — slated to land on Earth in September on Osiris-REx spacecraft.

Osiris-REx, the first US mission to collect a sample from an asteroid, will return to Earth on September 24 with material from asteroid Bennu. It is carrying an estimated 8.8 ounces of rocky material collected from the surface of the asteroid Bennu in 2020.

A mockup of an Osiris-REx sample capsule was dropped on Wednesday from an aircraft and landed at the drop zone at the Department of Defense’s Utah Test and Training Range in the desert outside Salt Lake City. This was part of the mission’s final major test prior to the arrival of the actual capsule.

While the Cold War has long been over a second one brews between the USA and Russia inside “I.S.S.,” Gabriela Cowperthwaite’s frustratingly broad yet stylish space thriller that just premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Considering the growing political tensions between the two countries today, this is a movie one might be tempted to adorn with adjectives such as “timely” and “urgent.” Except “I.S.S.”—a title inexplicably fashioned with three periods—is too generic a genre exercise to matter, one that vaguely orbits notions such as trust, selflessness, teamwork and the hazards of blind nationalism with the most simplistic messages to transmit about them.

The trailer runs 3-minutes long and is absolutely brimming with deep sea action-horror insanity, beginning with The Meg devouring a T-Rex and then piling more and more delicious cheese on top of the meal. It’s looking like Ben Wheatley went ahead and made the biggest budget Syfy original shark attack movie ever made, and goddamn does it look like a blast.

Factual content specialist Zinc Media Group has fundraised £5 million (6.1 million) and is using £2.1 million of it towards acquiring award-winning production company The Edge Picture Company, which operates from its bases in London, Doha, Vancouver and Paris. The rest of the cash will be invested in talent, potential IP, and in future acquisitions and collaborations. The Edge’s clients include Amazon, BT Group and FIFA.

The Edge joins Zinc Media Group at the end of August, subject to approval by Zinc shareholders. The Edge will continue to operate in line with other companies wholly owned by Zinc Media Group and it will continue to be run by the same management team, but benefit from the opportunities presented by being part of an enlarged organisation.

The 2022 Tribeca Festival today announced its lineup of feature and short narrative, documentary, and animated films. This year’s festival runs June 8–19 and will open, as previously announced, with the Jennifer Lopez documentary “Halftime.”

The features program spans 10 categories and showcases 110 feature films and 16 online premieres from 151 filmmakers across 40 countries. The lineup includes 88 world premieres, two international premieres, seven North American premieres, two U.S. premieres, and 11 New York premieres. There are 32 directors returning to Tribeca with their latest projects, and 50 first-time directors. More than 64 percent (81) of the feature films are directed by female, Bipoc, and LGBTQ+ filmmakers: 46 percent (58) female directors, 34percent (43) Bipoc directors, and 8 percent (10) LGBTQ+ directors.

Ramón Rodríguez has been cast in the lead role of the “Will Trent” drama pilot at ABC.

The pilot had been given a cast contingent order back in February and will now officially move forward, with Rodríguez’s casting lifting the contingency.

Based on Karin Slaughter’s bestselling “Will Trent” novel series, the pilot follows Special Agent Will Trent of the Georgia Bureau of Investigations (Gbi). Trent was abandoned at birth and endured a harsh coming-of-age in Atlanta’s overwhelmed foster care system. Exclusive: Range Media Partners has signed Simon Rex, who has a promising awards season ahead of him after his star-making role in Sean Baker’s acclaimed feature Red Rocket for A24 and FilmNation.

The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year to a rapturous response, followed by the Telluride Film Festival and the Deauville American Film Festival, where it was recognized with the Jury Prize and the Critics Prize. It also is an official selection for the 2021 AFI Fest in November.

Rex, who was nominated for a Gotham Award in the category of Outstanding Lead Performance for his role, continues to be recognized throughout the current festival circuit. Critics have lauded Rex’s performance, with many considering this to be a breakthrough, career-defining moment for him. Red Rocket will debut theatrically December 3.

Sean Baker’s “Red Rocket” proved to be another highlight in this year’s Cannes Film Festival, but the person earning real raves is the film’s star, Simon Rex.

American audiences might better know him as Dirt Nasty from the “Scary Movie” franchise of films, but critics have called him “terrific” and “sensational” and said that he has earned his “Uncut Gems” moment for his performance as a washed-up porn star who is trying to groom a younger girl in the art. One Twitter user even suggested that Cannes should award him the Best Actor prize for his work.

“Give Simon Rex the Best Actor award. Sean Baker is a national treasure. I was glued to his twisted red state Americana vision for almost its entire two hours,” critic Jordan Ruimy wrote.

Exclusive: Ld Entertainment has greenlit the contained space thriller Iss, and is reuniting with director Gabriela Cowperthwaite, who will direct the film with Chris Messina and Pilou Asbaek starring. The two previously partnered together on Megan Leavey. The ensemble cast also includes John Gallagher Jr., Costa Ronin and Masha Mashkova.

At any given moment, there are roughly six astronauts living aboard the International Space Station (Iss) and the thriller follows the actions they take after receiving distressing information from Earth that threatens their missions and their lives.

Nick Shafir wrote the screenplay, which was featured in the recent 2020 Black List. Production is set to begin in Wilmington, Nc in February 2021. Ld’s Mickey Liddell and Pete Shilaimon are producing.

“Gabriela is like family to us. She’s truly an incredible filmmaker and we are so proud to have her on board the Iss,” said Shilaimon.

Roger Berlind, the 25-time Tony-winning producer of more than 100 Broadway plays and musicals ranging from Amadeus, City of Angels and Doubt to The Book of Mormon, Dear Evan Hansen and Mean Girls, has died. He was 90. His family said he died December 18 in Manhattan of cardiopulmonary arrest.

During his stunning 45-year career, Berlind won Tonys for new musicals and plays and revivals of each, starting with the 1981 Best Play trophy for Amadeus — also a future Best Picture Oscar winner and one of several of his shows that transferred from the stage to the big screen — to the 2019 Best Revival of a Musical Tony for Oklahoma!

Berlind’s original shows swept the 2011 Tony Awards, with War Horse winning Best Play and The Book of Mormon taking Best Musical.

He also cornered the Tony market in 2017 when his Dear Evan Hansen won Best Musical and Hello, Dolly! starring Bette Midler took Best Revival of a Musical.

Sean Baker is close to wrapping “Red Rocket,” a secret film he has been shooting in Texas.

The dark comedy will star Simon Rex of the “Scary Movie” franchise and “Jack & Jill.” Plot details are being kept under wraps, but production should be finished this month. The film was independently financed and will be looking for distribution.

Baker isn’t the only director to take up his camera in secret. Steven Soderbergh applied a similar under-the-radar approach while making his upcoming movie “Let Them All Talk,” which will star Meryl Streep and Gemma Chan.

Work on “Red Rocket” commenced as Hollywood and the independent film community that Baker belongs to are trying to find a way to make movies safely during coronavirus. The film has employed industry standard safety protocols.

Updates on Chucky, Syfy’s upcoming TV show based on the Child’s Play movies, have been thin on the ground during the coronavirus crisis but plans to shoot it in Toronto this July are seemingly still in place. And now, details about its protagonist appear to have emerged.

The third season of “The Masked Singer” introduced a new twist of separating its 18 contestants into three groups of six. Initially the groups performed for the audience and judges, with three being eliminated from each. Group A booted the likes of Lil Wayne (Robot), Drew Carey (Llama) and Chaka Khan (Miss Monster).
