To mark Saints and Savages new releases, Original Gangster and Red Rage, out now, and Righteous Villains on 19th April, we’ve been given 3 bundles of all 3 to give away on DVD.
Original Gangster
Castor is orphaned when gangsters murder his parents, but sentimental assassin Milo spares his life. Years later, once Castor has reached adulthood, the two are reunited when Castor steals from one of Milo’s men to survive. Milo sees a budding gangster in Castor, who has resorted to violence to sustain himself in his mostly homeless existence. Milo procures a job for Castor as an enforcer. Castor is happy to repay Milo for saving his life, but finds himself increasingly uncomfortable the cold, emotionless existence of a criminal. Castor must make a choice between living the violent, empty life of a gangster or to pursue his lifelong dream of having his own family.

Well that was different. Disturbing. Also, very funny.
The film is Red Rage. Or maybe Red Devil. Nothing about it is quite what you expected. Including the title, which seems to have mutated from the first to the second at some point between the original press going out and IMDb catching up with it. Or vice-versa.
Look: don't ask me! I'm not the publicist. But it does mean that, to dig deeper, you need to know both.
As for Red - Rage or Devil: take your pick! - it is what you might get if Sergio Leone made a western about bad people dealing in psychotropic drugs. While taking psychotropic drugs. Or Tarantino, for that matter.
Because there are whiffs of genius here, though mostly in the parts and the small details, rather than the big picture.
For Red Devil is very much, as the blurb puts it, “an intertwining tale of sex,...

"Baby, let's go kill some sinners." Saints & Sinners + Strike Media has released this new official trailer for a gritty British thriller titled Red Rage, formerly known as Red Devil. Despite the title seemingly being a wink to hating Russians ("those red devils!") it's really a reference to the designer drug called "Red Devil", which is ruining the city. A murderous vigilante couple tear through the town, serving vengeance to dealers of the drug. "An intertwining tale of sex, drugs, rock and woe," is how they sell it. Red Rage stars Fernanda Diniz, Jack Turner, Adam Deacon, Steven Berkoff, Ian Reddington, and Vas Blackwood. This looks like it has way more weed in it than any other drug, but I dig the style and the craziness of it. Not that we haven't seen this so many times before; it's almost like Trainspotting crossed with The Boondock Saints. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Savvas D.

A new trailer for Rogue has arrived online. The action/thriller stars Megan Fox, of Transformers and Jennifer's Body fame. It comes from writer/director M.J. Bassett and looks like it could provide a bit of insane fun in a summer movie season that is sorely lacking in that department. Case in point, the main hook is that Fox will be going toe-to-toe with a gigantic, dangerous lion in a woman vs. beast scenario. Let them fight.
The trailer kicks off with Megan Fox leading a team of mercenaries who are looking to capture an asset in Africa. The action ramps up in a hurry with explosions, bullets and a daring escape attempt. Unfortunately, it doesn't go according to play. Fox and her counterparts find themselves on the run, evading a deadly gang. That, on its own, could lay the breadcrumbs for a compelling enough action flick. But then a...

Matt Murdock has been going through some stuff and denounced the Daredevil name. Now he's making peace with his demons.
Like many superheroes, Daredevil has his story arcs where he goes against the status quo in an interesting way, only to bounce back sooner than later. He was married to a blind woman until she was written out of his books and Matt had to divorce her. He was in prison until he wasn’t. He was an evil ninja master until he stopped. He was publicly Matt Murdock until everyone was forced to forget. These days, Wilson Fisk has moved on from feared crime boss to sketch New York City mayor for as long as that lasts.
Then again, that’s not the most important status quo change that’s been going on in Chip Zdarsky’s current run on Daredevil. You see, after taking some time off due to injury,...

A lamentable dearth of laughs infects this comedy-fantasy set in a nightmarish dystopia where everyone is high on something
A decidedly tedious, profoundly unfunny comedy-crime-fantasy set in some nightmarish version of a British metropolis (essentially a sound stage with murky lighting) where nearly everyone is high on something, be it super-skunk or a highly addictive, crack-like substance called Red Devil.
Writer-director Savvas D Michael (Smoking Guns) prods the plot forward at gunpoint as we follow three converging storylines. In one, Hugo (Ian Reddington), an ageing cannabis farmer-dealer in a flappy-eared hat, entertains an assortment of customers, none of whom seem especially interested in hanging out with him and listening to his appalling taste in music and sharing the obligatory spliff after purchase. His only hanger-on is Gabriel (Matt Lapinskas), a sneering millennial who, judging by the black-feathered bolero he wears, apparently raided the costume box of a low-rent production of...
