Jake Gyllenhaal and Dar Salim in The Covenant : Mission en Afghanistan (2023)

Trivia

The Covenant : Mission en Afghanistan

Edit
After the negligent discharge of a firearm that resulted in the tragic death of one woman on the set of Rust (2024) in 2021, Guy Ritchie strictly enforced that there would be absolutely no real guns on the set of this film. All firearms shown throughout the film are air-soft guns (BB guns) or rubber.
As the production crew could not shoot in Afghanistan for political reasons, almost the whole movie was shot in Spain, mostly in the Southern region of Alicante.
In a 2023 interview, Guy Ritchie elaborated on the film's major theme: "You want to focus on authentic generosity. And we had to go for some lengths to not make this saccharine. I had to work very hard against that. It's almost like they don't like each other, and even after the journey, they still don't really like each other. And honestly, whether you like someone or not is not important. It's how much you respect someone that's important. And have they allowed you to exercise your altruism or your generous side? And this is the argument with children: Do you owe children or do they owe you? Because once you have children, they allow you to express your generosity... People are at their best when they are expressing their generous nature."
Filming began in February 2022 in Alicante, Spain. Other filming locations in Spain later included Petrer, Alicante, Sax, Alicante, Alt Vinalopó/Alto Vinalopó, Villajoyosa and Zaragoza.

The finale was filmed at Spain's Amadorio reservoir, a dam located between the towns of Villajoyosa and Orcheta in Alicante, a nature reserve popular with hikers and cyclists.
Originally titled "The Interpreter", it was changed to "The Covenant", and then to "Guy Ritchie's The Covenant", in order to avoid any confusion with the earlier Le pacte du sang (2006).
