Investigation: How An Extravagant Chinese Financier Charmed Hollywood’s Elite Before Vanishing, Owing People Millions
Image
Kenneth Huang was known for his particular taste in wine. Whether in his favorite corner of Cut, the Michelin-starred steakhouse at the Beverly Wilshire, or in the Peninsula Shanghai, Huang would summon a bottle of Opus One to the table. He would tell guests that he had a private reserve of the Napa Valley vineyard’s 2011 vintage, which retails for up to $2,000 a case. Someone who regularly dined with the financier says she drank so much Opus One that she got sick of the bourgeois Bordeaux.

If the wine was Huang’s signature, it was a footnote in a picture rendered to create a specific impression. An outsider in a town familiar with cautionary tales about Chinese riches, Huang was performative about his wealth in a way that put Hollywood power players at ease. He would allow them to think: if this man puts studio executives on private jets to...

Brightburn sequel on the way
Image
A sequel to 2019’s Brightburn may be glowing yet again, as word has emerged that the production company behind the James Gunn-produced movie is moving forward with another installment.

As per Deadline, The H Collective – which produced Brightburn – is launching a new label called H3 Entertainment, which “intends to incorporate new technology into the production process of projects it has in development, including a sequel to horror movie Brightburn.” Such technology includes the use of artificial intelligence, Metaverse and Web3.

While the idea of using artificial intelligence and the like may put off some moviegoers, the company has assured that they will aim to “respect professionals and fans while promoting responsible technology integration.” In a time when artificial intelligence has done its part to slow down the movie industry with both the WGA and SAG-AFTRA striking, this is certainly a bold announcement to make, even if it does signal...

Dawn Breaks Behind The Eyes: "Margo, who comes from a noble family, inherited a castle that she inspects with her ill-tempered husband Dieter. When they arrive at the run-down keep, their relationship is put to a test as their sanity slowly deteriorates. This opens up a new world. As time and space begin to shift around them, a reality that only exists within the walls of the eerie building is exposed - a reality full of warmth and excess.

Things aren't as they seem in this genre-bending film, that shifts between different story layers in unpredictable ways. It is a love letter to European cinema of the sixties and seventies that will leave viewers guessing what will happen next. "

For many people, walking past Aaron Paul on the side of the road might be startling, sure, but also pretty damn awesome. And in honor of “The Parts You Lose” arriving in theaters this week, we’re happy to give our readers an exclusive look at a clip from the film, showing just why Aaron Paul, or more specifically, the character he plays, wouldn’t be the best person to cross paths with.

‘The Parts You Lose’ Trailer: Aaron Paul & Mary Elizabeth Winstead Co-Star In New Crime Thriller
It’s probably not a huge shock to learn that in the new film “The Parts You Lose,” actor Aaron Paul plays a criminal. That isn’t to say that he’s incapable of portraying law-abiding citizens, but ever since his run on the series “Breaking Bad,” Paul has been known more for playing someone on the wrong side of the law.

However, as seen in the trailer for “The Parts You Lose,” Paul isn’t totally a terrible person.

Danny Murphy plays Wesley, co-starring with Aaron Paul, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Scoot McNairy, Darcy Fehr, and Stefanie Wiens. ‘David Crosby’ Documentary And ‘Her Smell’ Topline 8th Annual Sun Valley Film Festival
Eight years in, the Sun Valley Film Festival, running March 13-17, has established itself as a laid-back, picturesque event, where you’re as likely to be struck by the beauty of the setting — in the shadow of Idaho’s Bald Mountain — as by the films on screen.

Per executive director Teddy Grennan, this Idaho resort town, a three-hour drive from Boise, already has a rich cinematic history.

“Averell Harriman, who owned Union Pacific, wanted to start a ski town in the mountains, and he didn’t know how to launch it. So he hired this wunderkind, one of the original Mad Men who launched Miami Beach in the early 1900s. And the guy said, ‘Look, you own a rail line. Invite up all the Marilyn Monroes, all the hangers-on, and put it on the house.’ And they did just that. The only thing they asked for was to own the pictures of them — Hemingway,...

American Film Market Sees Plenty of Scrambling for Buzzy Movies
With the American Film Market halfway through its 39th edition at the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel, producers are scrambling to adjust to the world’s ever-growing demand for more and more buzzy movies. “There’s a voracious appetite for content,” said Mark Gooder, principal with Cornerstone Films. “Compelling stories are valuable enough that we can still do traditional pre-sales on titles that really hit the mark.” For Cornerstone, that has meant the recently completed “After the Wedding,” starring Julianne Moore and Michelle Williams in a remake of Susanne Bier’s 2007 movie. “It’s immediately recognizable and female-driven,” notes Gooder. As usual, star power has been in evidence with Ron Howard showing up to meet buyers for his Luciano Pavarotti documentary, pictured about with producer Nigel Sinclair; Aaron Paul presenting Blue Fox’s “The Parts You Lose” with The H Collective; Tate Taylor talked up his upcoming drama-comedy “Breaking News in Yuba County,...

Mary Elizabeth Winstead at an event for Suspiria (2018)

Black Canary, aka Dinah Lance, is a good-natured...
