Frank McRae was originally intended to play the role of Leon in Blade Runner, but Brion James ended up getting the part instead. Brion James' audition for the role of Leon impressed Ridley Scott, particularly because of his scary appearance after a recent car accident. Brion James' portrayal of Leon in Blade Runner launched his career and he became known for his villainous roles in other projects.
When doing casting for the iconic sci-fi film Blade Runner, director Ridley Scott had one person in mind for the role of Leon Kowalski, and it wasn't Brion James, so what happened to the original Leon? 1982's Blade Runner is based on the 1968 novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" It takes place in a futuristic 2019 and follows a man named Deckard who is tasked with retiring old androids called replicants, but who struggles to complete his job when he falls in love with a replicant named Rachael.

I’ve worked with protest demonstrators of all kinds throughout my legal career in Georgia. What’s happening around the planned police training facility — referred to by opponents as “Cop City” — is the largest, most sustained attack on free speech since the Civil Rights Movement. It intensified earlier this month, when the state criminally indicted 61 people affiliated with the protest opposing the facility, followed by Atlanta officials challenging city residents attempting to place the construction of the facility on a ballot referendum. The one-two punch is part of a chilling...

The 1980s has gone down as one of the greatest decades in Hollywood's history, thanks to its great focus on action, adventure and comedy. Many of cinema's most iconic careers were built and flourished during the '80s, with plenty of massive hits stemming from the decade. The decade had a great versatility in genres, star power and styles that continues to please fans decades later.
80's movies and their stars have retained an incredibly dedicated fan base in the modern era, and are still some of the most referenced stories in cinema. Whether it was outrageously cheesy action movies, raunchy comedies or legendary adventure and fantasy movies, many actors helped define the decade. Some of these actors are still riding the success of their '80s careers today. In fact, much of modern cinema is built entirely on '80s nostalgia, both in the stories and the acting talent.

TV has never been more beautiful, more daring, and more dramatic, and that’s owed to the new level of talent being given a chance to redefine what might be possible within this medium today. Since the dawn of the 21st century, we’ve witnessed an incredible array of directors (some native to TV, some fleeing the fluctuating feature film world) come to episodic storytelling to discover its potential.

They say Whitney Houston had the voice of an angel. A cousin of Dionne Warwick, she grew up singing in her church choir. She was beautiful, with a smile that could light up a room. Which is why, when she died in 2012, this monumental diva’s fall struck a chord with the entire world. Like so many legends before her, she died of a drug overdose that was a long time coming. Houston had been using for years, but what drove her over the edge remained a mystery to most of the world — until now.
Through interviews with friends and employees (most of her friends were employees), “Whitney: Can I Be Me” filmmakers Nick Broomfield and Rudi Dolezal take a strong stand, connecting the dots between a number of pivotal moments in Houston’s life that led to her heartbreaking decline. Namely: Her controlling parents, the night she was booed...

If Ryan Murphy needs any inspiration for Feud's third season, he might want to consider the drama unfolding between Aretha Franklin and Dionne Warwick. The "Respect" singer, who recently announced plans for retirement, accused fellow soul diva Dionne Warwick of making "libelous" statements about her on Wednesday, according to the Associated Press. Aretha notably covered Dionne's hits "Walk on By" and "I Say a Little Prayer" in the late '60s, but apparently the bad blood between them has been simmering for years. "At this point, it isn't about an apology, it's about libel," she said. "We've never been friends, and I don't think that Dionne has ever liked me." The drama allegedly all started five years ago at Whitney Houston's funeral. Dionne was making a speech in front of the funeral-goers and introduced Aretha before realizing that she wasn't actually there. "'Ree's not here, but she is here,...

Nearly a decade after Prison Break went off the air, the beloved prison drama returns for a brand new chapter on Tuesday, marking the returns of series stars Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell. Though a lot has happened since 2009 -- when Prison Break wrapped up its original run with Michael Scofield’s supposed death -- there was a deep desire to go back to basics and lean into what made the show's early seasons successful.

The IndieWire team spent Tuesday night scattered across New York and Los Angeles, attending campaign events, sitting in the audience of live TV events, drinking at election parties and watching the coverage at home. Here’s how they experienced the unexpected win for President-Elect Donald Trump.
Colbert’s Rapport
I watched the election results with Stephen Colbert, in his New York City studio with several hundred people for his Showtime election special. It was one of the weirdest experiences of my life.
Colbert struggled to find humor in an increasingly despondent situation and the audience slowly sunk with him. The fixed nature of the program — the guests, the sappy one-liners, Colbert’s occasional f-bomb made possible by the cable format — felt totally out of sync with a combustible scenario that caught everyone by surprise. Being in a studio audience for a show watched around the country should feel exciting; instead,...

This summer brought the fourth film in the popular Sharknado franchise to the small screen, but for those seeking a more realistic shark-attack story, then USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage might be right up your alley. A new trailer has debuted for this adaptation of an incredible true story, which doesn't have a U.S. release date quite yet, although it did open in the Philippines last month. This new movie sheds some light on a little-known story from the very end of World War II.

With Shark Week arguably America’s most beloved religious festival and the unprecedented worldwide cultural impact of Anthony C. Ferrante’s acclaimed Sharknado trilogy showing no sign of letting up, who could deny the necessity of the Jaws sequels finally getting a Blu-ray release?
The immediate answer is obvious (well, anyone), though this belated look at Jaws 2, Jaws 3-D, Jaws: The Revenge and Jaws 5: The Sharkening was, for this writer at least, a nostalgic journey through a world where morbidly obese fish bear grudges, Michael Caine fights a script far deadlier than any marine predator and where lines such as “Weld that sonuvabitch” are somehow deemed passable.
Generally considered the best of the sequels, perhaps Jaws 2 holds a special place in the heart of the reader who,...

It's famously one of the worst sequels ever, but why did Jaws The Revenge go so wrong? Ryan looks at its disastrous nine-month production...
It's an oft-repeated adage that nobody sets out to make a bad movie, but Jaws The Revenge is so legendarily, comically bad that it almost looks like an inside job. The fishy sequel, released in 1987 to scathing reviews, famously stars a rubbery shark that growls when its head rears out of the water, Michael Caine spouting bizarre dialogue and some of the most glaring continuity errors this side of an Ed Wood movie.
What separates Jaws The Revenge from the usual bad-movie crowd is its otherwise decent pedigree. It was the product of a major Hollywood studio. The budget was generous. The director, Joseph Sargent, was far from a hack - a veteran of TV and film, he'd previously made the classic thriller...

If the languid summer tentpole season has you down, fear not, as the promising fall slate is around the corner and today brings the first news of what we’ll see at the 2016 New York Film Festival. For the first time ever, a non-fiction film will open The Film Society of Lincoln Center’s festival: Ava DuVernay‘s The 13th. Her timely follow-up to Selma chronicles the history of racial inequality in the United States and will arrive on Netflix and in limited theaters shortly after its premiere at Nyff, on October 7.
“It is a true honor for me and my collaborators to premiere The 13th as the opening night selection of the New York Film Festival,” Ava DuVernay says. “This film was made as an answer to my own questions about how and why we have become the most incarcerated nation in the world, how and why we regard...

Have a look at just some of the beautiful concept art behind Jordan Vogt-Roberts' Kong: Skull Island...
Kong: Skull Island is out in the wild, and if you've had a chance to go out and catch the irreverent monster mash at your local cinema you'll know that - love it or hate it - it looks absolutely spectacular.
See related Kevin Feige on Black Panther, female superhero movie Thor: Ragnarok - Natalie Portman's absence explained
Nearly every frame is artistically impressive in its composition and it turns out that it's no accident, as it appears that director Jordan Vogt-Roberts stuck pretty closely to designer Eddie Del Rio's original concept art for the movie, which is actually fairly unusual.
Del Rio's art has now made it's way online, and we've added some of it to our Kong: Skull Island gallery, which you can...

Roland Martin had a very blunt message to Wendy Williams when discussing her recent comments about the NAACP and historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) “If you actually bothered to read a book and not gossip magazines, you might know these things,” Martin said on his TVOne news program. “Wendy let me help you out. When you’re on TV and have no idea what you’re talking about, shut the hell up. Don’t open your mouth. Don’t embarrass yourself. Because you sound silly.” The TV commentator’s passionate response came after Williams, a daytime talk show host,...

The first Nicolas Cage movie I saw wasn’t one of the cool ones. It wasn’t Wild At Heart, Raising Arizona or even Valley Girl. It was the Cher rom-com, Moonstruck.
My mum, having just gone through an acrimonious divorce, was trying to drum up the optimism to find love again, and apparently that involved watching a lot of rom-coms where an idealised – or at least intrinsically whimsical...

"For some people, it might be a job but for us it was history," Mario Van Peebles said of directing a portion of the new Roots. The New Jack City helmer was speaking to a full DGA Theater during the A+E Networks' panel at Deadline's The Contenders Emmys all-day event on April 10. "If you don't make film that says something or starts a conversation or provokes a conversation, then you are kind of wasting space," he added. Based on Alex Haley's 1976 best selling novel, and…...

From killer bees to Steven Seagal, Michael Caine's seen it all. We celebrate five hilarious performances in five very bad B-movies...
"If there is one thing worse than being offered bad scripts it's being offered none at all," Michael Caine once noted - an admission that might explain some of the roles he's taken on over his long and often wonderful career.
Michael Caine may have attained national treasure status now, but from the late 70s to the middle of the 90s, classic roles like Dr Frank Bryant in Educating Rita and Scrooge The Muppet Christmas Carol were interspersed with some - shall we say - less acclaimed movies. Yet even when the production values were awful, the script stank and the films flopped, Michael Caine's performances often remained fascinating. This isn't to say he was necessarily putting his heart and soul into them -...

Prison Break returned, kicked it up a notch and let us catch up with all our favourite characters in the revival they called Redemption, but now it's time for another lock-down as we zip toward next week's season finale, and Fox have promised that not everyone will make it out alive.
