FKA twigs’s debut album, 2014’s LP1, wasn’t a total reinvention of R&b as much as it was a sensory-driven variation on the genre, with an ear toward British electronic music—primarily dub, glitch, and U.K. bass. twigs is a detail-oriented soundscaper and consummate singer who makes compelling left-of-center pop music, regardless of notions of trailblazing. In that sense, her latest album, Eusexua, continually reminds you of LP1.
Where twigs’s debut moved like molasses, though, Eusexua is mostly a briskly paced techno album. It’s propulsive and fun, but, like LP1, it’s wrapped in anguish. On “Sticky,” twigs sings, “I tried to fuck you with the lights on/In the hope you’d think I’m open,” a call-back to “Lights On.”
The artist’s new preoccupations, still presented with an angsty yearning, are all over Eusexua. The album’s concept is purportedly about transcending one’s human form,...

A dark comedy crime thriller, with a solid 82% score on Rotten Tomatoes, is showing signs of success on streaming. The closing months of a year are generally not thought of as an exceptionally busy time for television, with broadcast networks going on hiatus for the holidays and streamers holding their biggest titles for the new year. 2024 may be another year that points to a shift, with several hit series debuting recently and more on the way.
Squid Game season 2 is premiering on Netflix as of December 26, making a late play to be technically one of the year's buzziest series. This is coming after Black Doves debuted in early December, very intentionally set as a holiday-themed spy saga, to acclaim from audiences and critics. Showtime's The Agency, led by Michael Fassbender, is another thriller that premiered late to a lot of attention and a quick renewal. A more low-key crime thriller may well follow that success.

Count actor Jamie Lee Curtis among them, as she made Hoda shed tears during their recent conversation.
Curtis, who won an Academy Award for her role in Everything Everywhere All At Once, is back for several more movies, including Prime’s Sticky and a Freaky Friday sequel with Lindsay Lohan.
However, before talking about herself, she became emotional with Hoda about the Today star’s upcoming departure.

There are only a few movies that have come close to how good Fargo is. This Coen brothers cult classic small-town crime film is the finest piece of screenplay writing. The TV show with the same name did not live up to the hype as they kept rehashing the same concept without any real originality. The Sticky, the Canadian Amazon Prime Video Original, is a fictional story based on the ‘Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist’ The show has elements of Fargo, as it is set in the cold and gloomy countryside of Canada, where people showcase instincts that are far from normal.

Amazon Prime Video's black comedy heist series The Sticky tells a hilariously twisted take on a true tale in its first season, but will the show score a season 2 renewal? Based loosely on the real-life Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist of 2011 and 2012, the show follows a disgruntled maple syrup farmer (Margo Martindale) who concocts a scheme to steal millions of dollars of syrup from a massive corporation that threatens to put her small farm out of business. Blending all the best elements of its genres, The Sticky delivers a compelling crime story that is hilarious too.
Dropping in late 2024 among a slew of other thriller series, The Sticky didn't struggle to set itself apart because of its unique tone. Critics were largely impressed with the heist show's first course, and it earned a Rotten Tomatoes score above 80%. Intriguingly, the series opted to end its first season on a major cliffhanger,...

Placing a “based-on-a true story” dark comedy in the snowy north carries with it some heavy connotations. The success of the Coen Brothers 1996 film Fargo, and its subsequent prestige television series on FX had mostly staked out this setting as their playground. However, The Sticky looks to needle into the setting while opening up the location. Who thought stealing syrup could be such a fruitful world to explore? With an excellent performance from (character actress) Margo Martindale leading the small ensemble, The Sticky scratched an itch for small-time heists. The Prime Video series maintains momentum and silliness despite intense moments of violence. This helps make the admittedly absurd story shine, despite the inclusion of some tired tropes.

A new six-minute montage titled Mask Is Off: Chromakopia collects scenes from the making of Tyler, the Creator’s Chromakopia album. About two minutes in, you can see him rapping the first verse of “I Hope You Find Your Way Home” a cappella, and of course he’s not wearing the face mask on the album art. Tyler, the Creator’s life is a movie. Or, at least, that’s the impression he’s given us over the course of nearly 15 years. His debut mixtape, 2009’s Bastard, introduced us to its cast of characters — from Tyler’s pitched-down voice, serving as his therapist, Dr. Tc, to Wolf Haley, or Ace. From the start, his origin story has followed the hallmarks of the so-called trauma plot, where a central emotional fissure is essential to our main character’s struggles. Tyler, The Creator ushered in the Chromakopia era a bit early with a last-minute listening party at Los Angeles’s high-tech Intuit Dome Sunday night, spending over an hour thrashing on a stage of green shipping containers while a crowd of 17,000 fans listened to his newest album for the very first time.
It was a homecoming for the LA rapper, who told the crowd Sunday night that Chromakopia “originated with growing up in these areas.” “I was like ‘oh shit, nobody knows anything about me from before [I was 17],” Tyler, wearing a green military suit,...

The Video Essay is a joint project of Mubi and Filmadrid International Film Festival. Film analysis and criticism forged a new path with the arrival of the video essay. The limits of this discipline are constantly expanding; new essayists are finding innovative ways to study the history of cinema through moving images. This non-competitive section of the festival is designed to offer this format the platform and visibility it deserves. This selection of seven video essays was programmed by the editors of Notebook and the programmers of Filmadrid. In the coming weeks, a video essay from the program will premiere each Friday on Notebook.“Sticky” by Maria Hofmann Drawing on documentary films by Harun Farocki and Philip Scheffner, “Sticky” is a horror desktop documentary that explores the lingering evocative affliction by images of highly mediated societal disaster within an apathetic and frenetic mediascape of instant obsolescence.

The Drake-Kendrick Lamar feud has escalated this year as the two rappers went back and forth replying and one-upping each other’s diss tracks. Things have never been the same since the duo collaborated on Drake’s 2011 album Take Care, and ever since Lamar threw shade at Drake in Big Sean’s Control, the two have been feuding over the years.
Before their feud, Kendrick Lamar was a part of Drake’s 2011 album Take Care
Things intensified this year as both have now committed to destroying each other’s reputations and careers with the release of their diss tracks simultaneously. With Lamar’s Euphoria and 6:16 in LA going on a full rant mode on Drake’s activities and career, the Toronto rapper has hit back with a more personal attack in his new diss track, questioning the parentage of Lamar’s children.

Drake and Kendrick Lamar have been embroiled in a bitter rivalry in the music industry for many years, during which both musicians have been critical of each other. The latter, 36, recently released a new track called Euphoria, in which he once again targeted Drake. Three days after releasing this diss track, he intensified his feud with Drake on Friday morning by releasing a second one, 6:16 in LA.
This is the latest in their long-running beef, which has gotten bigger and more intense over the past few weeks, involving other rappers.

Not one to back down, Drake is said to quickly hit back with a diss track of his own. However, that is not all—he recently shared a scene from Antoine Fuqua’s The Equalizer 2 on his social media, showcasing his lyrical skills and channeling his inner Denzel Washington in the process.

It’s been nearly four years since his last music release – 3.15.20 was his most recent album to be released, back in March 2020, and he has spent the last few years working in television, both acting and producing.
During a recent outing, Donald was asked what he has coming up next.
Keep reading to learn more…
He told TMZ that he has another album coming, and when they asked when we could expect it, he said, “soon.”
Childish Gambino was also featured on the song, “More Dollars, More Sense 1994,” earlier this year, alongside Jason Martin and DJ Quik. He also released the Swarm EP for the Prime Video series of the same name, which he created with Janine Nabers.

In 2012, the Canadian government-sanctioned Federation of Quebec Maple Syrup Producers discovered that its precious barrels of sweet sap had been (gasp) stolen. Gone was the sugary liquid that filled the Fpaq warehouses. In its stead was mere water, unfit to pour over a hot stack of pancakes or glaze a juicy pork chop. It sounds silly, but the event cost Fpaq $18.7 million Cad and ranks among the most costly thefts in Canadian history. Judging by the fact that syrup production accounts for about $1.1 billion Cad to Canada's Gdp, the country's government took the crime very seriously. Now, the story is getting the Hollywood adaptation treatment in a half-hour comedy series coming to Prime Video.
Canada produces 90% of the world's maple syrup, and about 72% of that supply comes from the province of Quebec. That means at least 70% of the entire world's syrup was stolen and illegally distributed sometime between 2011 and...

Donald Glover is finally back with new music — kinda — releasing a new EP tied to the world of his new horror series about an obsessive pop fan, Swarm.
The five-song Swarm EP is “credited” to Ni’jah, the fictional pop star portrayed by Nirine S. Brown in the show, but the songs were primarily written and performed by the singer-songwriter Kirby. Glover executive produced the project and has a co-writing credit on the opening track, “Something Like That”; he also guests under his Childish Gambino moniker on the closer, “Sticky.

Drake ran through his hits like the Energizer Bunny at a pre-Super Bowl concert where attendees included Cher and Serena Williams.
The rap star said he was using the early morning Saturday show — he went on around 1 a.m. Mst — as practice for his upcoming tour. He also told the feverish fans at the luxury private jet complex Scottsdale Hangar One that he was supposed to perform a couple songs but he felt like he wanted to do more.
“I have one question for you, and I need you to answer me honestly. Tonight, they asked me to come up here and they asked me to do three songs, 20 minutes,” Drake said. “I can either do my 20 minutes or we could just run through all the old shit. It’s up to you.”

Drake doesn’t love the Grammys but they love him — the rapper won an award at the 2023 Grammys even though he decided not to submit his latest album for awards.
Drake won best melodic rap performance for his guest appearance on Future’s “Wait for U,” which became No. 1 pop hit and also features Afrobeats star Tems. “Wait for U” appears on Future’s album, I Never Liked You.
Drake walked into Sunday’s show with four nominations. Drake was a double nominee in best rap song — for “Wait for U” and for co-writing Jack Harlow’s “Churchill Downs” — but lost to Kendrick Lamar’s “The Heart Part 5.” Drake is also nominated for album of the year since he co-wrote “Heated” on Beyoncé’s Renaissance.
