Space travel is not for the weak. It takes a special kind of person to brave the cosmos and not recoil from insignificance while coming to grips with how small we are in an ocean of stars and infinite possibilities. If you’re not careful, the weight of your mission and the isolation that comes with the job can warp your senses, making you see and hear things that are not there. In Mikael Håfström’s Slingshot trailer, Casey Affleck, Laurence Fishburne, and Tomer Capone star in a psychological thriller about three astronauts making Ren and Stimpy’s case of space madness look like child’s play.

Bleecker Street’s psychological thriller Slingshot has debuted its official trailer this afternoon, giving us a peek at psychological terror and even a nasty bit of body horror in outer space.

Slingshot will release in theaters nationwide August 30, 2024.

Casey Affleck and Laurence Fishburne star alongside Emily Beecham, Tomer Capone, and David Morrissey (“The Walking Dead”).

The film is directed by Mikael Håfström and written by R. Scott Adams (Donner Pass) and Nathan Parker.

“Slingshot follows an elite trio of astronauts aboard a years-long, possibly compromised mission to Saturn’s moon Titan. As the team gears up for a highly dangerous slingshot maneuver that will either catapult them to Titan or into deep space, it becomes increasingly difficult for one astronaut to maintain his grip on reality.”

Courtney B. Vance will play father to a music icon in the Aretha Franklin installment of National Geographic’s anthology series Genius.

Vance, who won an Emmy Award for playing defense lawyer Johnnie Cochran in The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, will take on the role of C.L. Franklin, an influential reverend and civil rights activist known as the “Million Dollar Voice.” C.L. and his daughter Aretha (portrayed as an adult by Harriet‘s Cynthia Erivo) shared a close but fraught relationship as he supported her throughout her career.

BBC America's critical and fan darling Killing Eve is returning for a third season! Of course, there wasn’t even time for doubt, since the Killing Eve Season 3 announcement was made in April at the AMC Networks Summit (BBC America is co-owned by AMC and BBC Studios), only one day after the second season premiere. Interestingly enough, the network continued its preemptive renewal strategy in January 2020, giving an early order for Season 4!

France-born, Spain-based Laxe won the €15,000 ($17,000) prize, which has previously been awarded to Guillermo del Toro, Gaspar Noe and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu among others.

The film, which was shot in Morocco and took part in Qumra 2016, is Laxe’s second film after You Are All Captains, which screened in Directors’ Fortnight in 2010, winning the Fipresci prize

Mimosas is a Spain-Morocco-France-Qatar co-production and is sold by Luxbox.

Following the unveiling of the 2016 Cannes Film Festival line-up, the Critics’ Week sidebar has now revealed their slate. As usual, there are a lot of discoveries to be had, with six of main selection being first features and four sophomore effort. Notably, Nadav Lapid (The Kindergarten Teacher) will screen his new short From the Diary of a Wedding Photographer while Chloë Sevigny will premiere her new film Kitty. Justine Triet’s In Bed With Victoria to open Critics’ Week; Chloë Sevigny’s Kitty one of three closing films. Scroll down for full list

Cannes Critics’ Week, devoted to first and second features, has unveiled the line-up for its 55th edition (May 12-20), following the announcement of the festival’s Official Selection last week.

The parallel section will open with Justine Triet’s comedy-drama In Bed With Victoria, which centres on a beautiful Parisian criminal lawyer in her late 30s who is a self-centred workaholic and sex addict, played by Virginie Efira.

It marks the second feature from French filmmaker Triet, whose Cesar-nominated Age of Panic opened in the Acid section in 2013, and is handled by Indie Sales with French distribution by Le Pacte.

In total, 1,100 features were submitted for consideration.
