Bryce Dallas Howard grew up in a Hollywood family, and while that may have helped pave the way for the beginning part of her career, her standout movie and TV roles have proven that she is a capable actor in her own right, Howard surname aside. The eldest of prolific movie and TV director Ron Howard's four children, Bryce Dallas Howard has been acting since she was 8, first appearing in her father's 1989 comedy Fatherhood for a brief cameo. She later had non-speaking roles in her dad's other movies, Apollo 13 and How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
Her time on her father's sets must have inspired a love for acting because, around 2004, Howard began appearing in more than just her dad's productions, making a name for herself in small roles that became increasingly more significant over the years. In the 2020s, Howard has also shown a knack for directing, but...

Exclusive: Higher Ground has made a deal with 20th Century Studios for Merry Ex-Mas, a comedy script from David Bernstein that marks the first project Barack and Michelle Obama’s production company has set up outside its long association with Netflix.
The holiday-themed film begins with Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus heading toward divorce court, including a custody battle over Christmas. They are out to directors and cast already. Higher Ground is producing.
The Obamas’ Higher Ground began with an exclusive deal at Netflix that harvested the Oscar winner American Factory, Crip Camp, Leave the World Behind and the Kevin Hart-starrer Fatherhood. Higher Ground also produced the Netflix series The Later Daters.
They signed on earlier this year for an extension of their creative partnership with Netflix, but the deal is now a non-exclusive first look.

Before production had begun on the anticipated film adaptation of Enid Blyton‘s The Magic Faraway Tree, director Ben Gregor worried that he’d put one of his stars, Andrew Garfield, off a little bit.
“We wrote a song for the film and we sent it to Andrew early on,” Gregor explains to The Hollywood Reporter. “And I hadn’t worked with him yet and you don’t know… With actors sometimes, you can put them off.”
But Garfield loved it. The gesture ended up being instrumental in the atmosphere that Gregor later cultivated on set — one of true-heartedness, trust, and that crucial Blyton ingredient: magic. “Everybody was putting themselves out there,” Gregor says.
The project has grabbed headlines in recent months for releasing back-to-back smash hit casting announcements: first came Garfield and Claire Foy (The Crown), then came Nicola Coughlan (Bridgerton, Derry Girls) and Jessica Gunning (Baby Reindeer), and...

Netflix unveiled the first big data dump of 2024 on Thursday, and the engagement report for everything watched in the first half of the year proved that subscribers really love three things: Millie Bobby Brown, sharks and animated movies.
Some of the data points were unsurprising – we knew Brown’s “Damsel” was a huge hit, and indeed it was the most-watched film for the first half of the year. But others were interesting, like just how heavily Netflix’s streaming partnership with Universal factors into what’s being watched and the relative success of Zack Snyder’s “Rebel Moon” films.
Below, we thumb through the biggest winners on the film side of the data dump.

Former President Barack Obama and Matt Damon had a famous back-and-forth in 2011 when they went at each other in public. Damon had supported Obama in the 2008 U.S. Presidential elections but went on to state in a 2011 interview that he was no longer a fan of him. Obama also fired back, joking that he felt the same after watching Damon’s film The Adjustment Bureau.

Kevin Hart showcases his range as an actor, proving he's adept in both serious and comedy-focused roles. Lift is a huge hit for Netflix, claiming the number-one spot on the Global Top 10 list since its release. Directed by F. Gary Gray, Lift bears strong similarities to The Italian Job in terms of narrative and characters but takes the heist to new heights with a thrilling airplane robbery.
Drifting away from his predominantly comedy-focused days, Kevin Hart has ventured into taking on more serious roles on screen. Portraying his range as an actor, Hart has starred in films such as 2021's Fatherhood, where he took on the role of widower Matthew Logelin. Despite still bringing a sense of witty humor to the role, Hart proved that he's just as adept in more serious roles as he is in comedy-focused parts. Since founding Higher Ground Productions in 2018, former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama have been hard at work digging their hands into the entertainment business. The company has so far backed films including Paul Weitz’s Fatherhood and George C. Wolfe’s Rustin, but it’s their latest collaboration with Sam Esmail on the director’s apocalyptic thriller, Leave the World Behind, that has people—especially conspiracy theorists—talking. No, the film has nothing to do with the JFK assassination, but with its hidden messages that signal the end of the world as we (or at least the characters) know it, some believe the ex-Commander-in-Chief’s involvement was a sign all on its own. Straightening things out during an interview with Collider’s Steve Weintraub, Esmail set the record straight, explaining exactly how the Obamas shaped the Netflix film.

Kevin Hart leads a diverse cast in the action heist comedy film Lift which is directed by F. Gary Gray, a name associated with popular heist films. And this time, the filmmaker sets the story in midair. Lift follows a heist crew who plan to steal $100 million worth of gold on a passenger flight, while airborne. The heist action comedy comes as a part of Hart and Netflix’s multi-year agreement, along with a first-look film deal, wherein the actor-comedian will feature in various upcoming projects from the streamer as well as produce and star in projects under his HartBeat Productions banner. Signed off in 2021, the deal has turned out to be quite fruitful so far with Hart and Netflix’s relationship bringing fans projects like Fatherhood, Man from Toronto, Me Time, and True Story.

The official Lift trailer from Netflix has been released, featuring main character played by Kevin Hart attempting to steal a plane from 40,000 feet in the air.
The new trailer introduces an international heist crew, with Hart taking on the role of group leader Cyrus Whitaker. Whitaker’s web of criminal activities has caught up with him, including identity theft, money laundering and transportation of stolen property. However, he is presented with a tempting proposition: to pull off a daring heist of $500 million in gold from a passenger plane flying at an altitude of 40,000 feet. In a departure from his typical family-oriented comedies, Hart dives into high-octane fight sequences aboard the plane, revealing a new facet of his acting prowess while still showcasing his comedic talent in the action-packed trailer.

Kevin Hart stars in the upcoming Netflix original film Lift, playing a master thief attempting to steal a plane mid-flight. The film features a star-studded cast, including Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Vincent D'Onofrio, and is directed by F. Gary Gray. Lift was originally set to premiere in August but was delayed due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, with a current release date in early 2024.
The first official Lift trailer sees Kevin Hart attempt to steal a plane from 40,000 feet in the air. Lift is an upcoming Netflix original that is slated to premiere next year. The heist comedy comes two years after Hart signed a deal with Netflix to produce and star in four feature films, and also nabbed a first-look agreement for his studio, HartBeat Productions. Since then, he has starred in and produced Fatherhood and Me Time, but his latest looks very different from his previous projects.

After starring in the comedy Vacation Friends (which I enjoyed much more than our reviewer did) and its sequel (didn’t watch that one yet) for the Hulu streaming service, Lil Rel Howery has taken the lead in another Hulu Original – but this time they switched up genres. Their new collaboration is the sci-fi horror movie The Mill, which is set to start streaming on October 9th as part of the service’s “Huluween” event. With that release date just over a week away, we’ve gotten our hands on a trailer for The Mill, and you can check it out in the embed above.
Directed by Sean King O’Grady (We Need to Do Something) from a screenplay by Jeffrey David Thomas (All American: Homecoming), The Mill sees Howery playing the role of a white-collar businessman who mysteriously wakes up in an open-air prison cell containing only an old grist mill.

This post contains spoilers for "True Story"
Kevin Hart is basically a human version of Netflix at this point, churning out projects and pumping the media ecosystem with as much of himself as possible. From his Peacock chat show "Hart to Heart" to his 2021 Netflix dramedy "Fatherhood"; his docuseries "Don't F*** This Up" to his stand-up specials, Hart has capitalized on his popularity to the extreme. He even popped up on "Talking Watches" in 2023, since evidently developing a taste for the finer things.
Somehow, the man also found time to make his television drama debut in 2021's "True Story." Arriving on Netflix in November 2021, "True Story" is a limited series in which Hart and Wesley Snipes play brothers, and is loosely based on the former's career as a stand-up comedian. Hart plays a version of himself named Kid, who kicks off a comedy tour in his native Philadelphia. At the show,...

Coming-of-age movies on Netflix offer timeless stories that connect with audiences transitioning from adolescence to adulthood, covering themes such as loss, rebellion, and mental health. Netflix offers a variety of coming-of-age movies, including dramas and comedies, showcasing different challenges faced by characters as they navigate relationships, college decisions, and personal growth. Unique coming-of-age stories on Netflix include "Fatherhood," which focuses on a man learning to raise his daughter alone, and "Enola Holmes," where the titular character steps out of her famous brother's shadow to solve a murder mystery.
The best quality of coming-of-age movies is that they're truly timeless, which is why new audiences can continue to find even classic coming-of-age movies on Netflix. When made well, these movies reach into the hearts of everyone who is in the process of "growing up" or are adults already, and find universal elements that connect people when they transition from being adolescents to adults.

“The Adults” follows a sister and brother, Megan and Nathan (Wood and Gad), whose lives are completely upended when they discover a dead body, long buried in their parent’s basement. That revelation sends them on an odyssey of crime and murder.
“I’m thrilled to be working with Evan, Josh and Anthony on this darkly comic crime drama, which takes a sly look at the challenges we all face today, trying to survive in the modern world,” Winter said.
CAA Media Finance, which is arranging financing for the film, will represent the domestic sale, while Rocket Science will launch international sales at the upcoming European Film Market (EFM) in Berlin.
The film is being produced by Winter, Scott Kroopf of Many Rivers Productions, and Russell Hollander. It is executive produced by Connie Tavel.

Winter will produce alongside Scott Kroopf of Many Rivers Productions and Russell Hollander, with Connie Tavel serving as exec producer.

After starring in the comedy Vacation Friends and its upcoming sequel Honeymoon Friends for the Hulu streaming service, Lil Rel Howery has taken the lead into another Hulu Original: the sci-fi horror movie The Mill. It’s said that The Mill is largely a one-man show, but Scoot McNairy (Monsters), Pat Healy (Station 19) and Karen Obilom (House Party) are also in the cast.
Forced to work as a beast of burden to stay alive, he must find a way to escape before the birth of his child. An image of Howery’s character in the cell can be seen at the bottom of this article,...
