Alessia Cara has dropped “The Use in Trying,” featured in Spin Master/Paramount’s Paw Patrol: The Movie, out later this month.

Co-written by Cara and Jon Levine, the track opens with subtle piano as Cara’s vocals wade in. “Just a jump away from where you wanna go/But you’re too afraid of doin’ it alone.”

“I wrote ‘The Use in Trying’ for a specific scene in the movie, with the understanding that it was a big turning point in the story, emphasizing the importance of courage,” Cara says.

Alessia Cara acts out a silly noir melodrama in the new music video for her recent single, “Shapeshifter.”

The video was directed by Tusk, and in it, Cara plays all the main roles: The jilted wife with the bottomless martini glass, the cheating husband, the clumsy private eye, the gardener and the maid. The clip mainly follows the private eye as he tries to figure out who the husband’s secret lover is, and the mystery ends with a very unexpected and surreal twist, when the investigator catches the husband...

Alessia Cara performed remotely on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert Monday night, appearing from a somewhat unconventional location: Niagara Falls.

The singer began her performance of “Sweet Dream” from her bedroom below deck on a ship. As she made her way to the upper deck, the lights around the Niagara Gorge came into view, and when she met up with her band on top of the riverboat, the camera cut back to reveal the gigantic waterfalls right behind the ship. Ian Sweet, a.k.a. Jilian Medford, has revealed a new album, Show Me How You Disappear, out March 5th via Polyvinyl.

Ahead of its release, Medford dropped the single “Drink the Lake,” which is accompanied by a video that features the songwriter in a suit, immersed in water. “I’ll start saying your name,” she sings. “Saying your name backward/So I’ll forget it.”

Medford described “Drink the Lake” as a track that “taps into my own twisted logic to try to break away from obsessive thought patterns.

On Watchmen, VFX supervisor Erik Henry was presented with a project of incredible ambition and scale, finding in the series the opportunity to bring myriad worlds and time periods to life, while offering a fresh take on an iconic comic book world.

In re-imagining HBO’s “Watchmen” series as a present-day sequel to the graphic novel about a race war tied to the Tulsa massacre, two of the biggest VFX challenges were how to create the reflective mask for Looking Glass (played by Tim Blake Nelson) along with the crucial look for the glowing blue Doctor Manhattan (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II). In fact, many will be surprised to learn that the mask for the Tulsa detective was all-cg, while the quantum-based superhero was a creative hybrid of different techniques.

But it took a lot of brainstorming and experimentation to please showrunner Damon Lindelof, who conceived of the mirror mask and wanted a less fantastical-looking Doctor Manhattan than his onscreen predecessor (Billy Crudup in Zack Snyder’s 2009 “Watchmen” feature).

Kretschmann is a wonderful actor who can slide between heroism and villainy with cagey grace. He first 'popped' for me in U-571 and then later in Peter Jackson's King Kong; he's the kind of actor who fits well into every character he plays, sometimes to the point of completely merging into it. I’ve got a nightmarish trailer here for you to watch for an upcoming new horror thriller called Discarnate. The movie actually looks like it’s pretty creepy and something that I’d enjoy watching.

The story centers around a neuroscientist who becomes obsessed with a drug that allows humans to interact with spirits, but, as you might expect from a horror film, “during the clinical trial he inadvertently unleashes a deadly supernatural force on his research team.” This supernatural force that is unleashed is a monstrous shapeshifter that is inspired by Norwegian folklore.

The movie comes from first time filmmaker Mario Sorrenti, and it stars Thomas Kretschmann as Dr. Andre Mason, Nadine Velazquez, Josh Stewart, Chris Coy, Matt Munroe, Bex Taylor-Klaus, Cassandra Clark, and Ashton Amab.

Discarnate will be released on March 5th on VOD. Watch the trailer for yourself and let us know if it looks like something you’d want to watch.

Sorrenti is a world renowned photographer who has worked with several A-list celebrities. His first film involves a shapeshifter and a dangerous drug. To debut in March, Discarnate stars: Thomas Kretschmann (Resident Evil: Apocalypse), Bex Taylor-Klaus (Hell Fest), Nadine Velazquez and Josh Stewart. As well, a trailer was released for this title in October, after an appearance at Los Angeles' Screamfest. Now, a release date has been announced thanks to Uncork'd Entertainment. Discarnate is a term that was unfamiliar with this horror fan. The word means: "having no material body or form." Fans can see this form change its shape and behaviours, in the trailer. Having a supernatural origin, this monster looks to fill its void by harvesting the bodies of others. Discarnate will show in early March, on DVD.

Octane Entertainment heads to the Efm with worldwide sales rights to the supernatural thriller Discarnate starring Thomas Kretschmann.

Shot locally in Los Angeles and currently in post, the film follows a neuroscientist’s obsession with a drug that expands the human mind as he inadvertently unleashes a supernatural force on his team.

Photographer Mario Sorrenti makes his feature directorial debut from a screenplay by Mario Miscione and Marcella Ochoa.

Joining Kretschmann on the cast are Nadine Velazquez, Josh Stewart, and Bex Taylor-Klaus.
