Rosamund Pike is recalling a terrifying incident she experienced nearly two decades ago.
The Gone Girl actress revealed during a recent interview with Magic Radio that she was attacked during a mugging incident in London. The Independent reported that it happened in 2006.

Pike said she was “angry” after being left with a bruise from being punched in the face during the incident. She added that her mom also endured “15 minutes of hell” until she was able to call her back following the attack.

Brad Anderson is an underrated filmmaker. He's quietly put out some of the best thrillers of the century, including Sessio 9, The Machinist, TransSiberian, and Beirut. He's back with an excellent new action thriller, The Silent Hour, which follows a late deafened detective (Joel Kinnaman) when he finds himself trapped in an abandoned apartment high-rise with a deaf woman who is targeted by a murderous gang. It features Anderson's usual skill at suspense but takes it to even more interesting degrees with its incorporation of deafness into the film's aesthetic. After this, Anderson is hoping to finish a gestating project the final film in George A. Romero's zombie franchise, Twilight of the Dead. He told MovieWeb in a recent interview:
"It's teed up. We're just looking for places. We're literally kind of in that phase of just locking in locations and stuff, so that will be great. That would...

Back in 2021, it was revealed that the legendary George A. Prime Video has shared a first look at “The Wheel of Time” Season 2, which will premiere on the streamer on Sept. 1.
Based on the best-selling Robert Jordan fantasy series, a humble farm boy, Rand al’Thor (Josha Stradowski), learns he is The Dragon Reborn — a dangerous figure from history destined to save the world … or break it. Desperate to protect him from the Dark One, an army of powerful sorceresses must reckon with his burgeoning power and encroaching madness. In the second season, threats new and very old seek out the young friends from the Two Rivers, now scattered over the world. The woman who found and guided them is now powerless to help and they must find other sources of strength.
Ahead of the Season 2 premiere, the first season of the show will stream on Amazon Freevee for free starting July 14.

The “Mean Girls” musical has cast “Mad Men” star Jon Hamm as Coach Carr. The Emmy-winning actor and star of “Confess, Fletch” and “Beirut” will play the school’s gym teacher and sex-ed instructor. The film will adapt the Broadway musical, which in turn was an adaptation of the 2004 theatrical comedy “Mean Girls.”
The Paramount film, about a teen girl who moves from Africa with her anthropologist parents and finds herself unprepared for the community dynamics of an American public high school earned solid reviews and grossed $130 million worldwide on a $17 million budget in early 2004, becoming a generational touchstone on par with “Clueless” and “Heathers.” This live-action musical version will debut on Paramount+.

Vampirism has been treated as a metaphor for more prosaic addictions in movies before. In “Blood,” however, it’s one more hassle a recovering addict doesn’t need added to the burdens of her already discordant family life. Starring Michelle Monaghan as a mother just out of rehab whose young son gets bitten — then develops an insatiable appetite for the titular fluid — Brad Anderson’s film steers a middle course between dysfunctional domestic drama and supernatural horror. That balance doesn’t completely work. But solid performances and some strong, occasionally unpleasant content make this an involving if not entirely satisfying watch. Vertical Entertainment is releasing it to limited U.S. theaters this Friday, then On Demand platforms Jan. 31.

Two weeks ago, it was announced that Joel Kinnaman (The Suicide Squad) will be starring in The Silent Hour, an action thriller that’s set to be directed by Brad Anderson (The Call). Now Variety has broken the news that Kinnaman has been joined in the cast by Mark Strong (Zero Dark Thirty).
Anderson will be directing The Silent Hour from a screenplay by Dan Hall. When Kinnaman’s casting was announced, we were told he’ll be playing a Boston Police Detective who suffers an on-the-job accident that leaves him hearing impaired. Sixteen months later, he is now an interpreter for the department and must battle a team of corrupt cops attempting to eliminate a deaf murder witness in an apartment building.

It may well be an unconscious impulse but the writers are directly or indirectly influenced by their socio-political millieu, even when opposing it, and you don’t need to be a Marxist to acknowledge that.
As Edward Said showed in his examination of ‘Orientalism’, or recent works showcasing the overt or covert politics of such literary figures as William Wordsworth (Jonathan Bate’s "Radical Wordsworth: The Poet Who Changed the World") and Jane Austen, politics can intrude into the poetic realm or comedies of manners — or other forms of fiction, too. And this can span the entire gamut from literary classics to pulp fiction.

The Cold War is a fitting example. As two contrasting systems of social and political organisation vied for global influence, the conflict for influencing hearts and minds underpinned the diplomatic and military manoeuvres.

Jon Hamm is on a whirlwind press tour. The actor and his Top Gun: Maverick castmates started in San Diego, where they attended the film’s stateside premiere before flying to the Cannes Film Festival (then flew back out in less than a day). Next, they were off to London, all in pursuit of a grand return to movie theaters. This week, Hamm pivots to celebrating his Kafkaesque workplace satire Corner Office at the Tribeca Film Festival. Here, he opines about the film biz and post-pandemic recalibrations.
What do you remember about your first film festival?
I think my first time must have been for The Town, and it was a double whammy because we went from Venice to Toronto. Just like with Top Gun, it was a movie that people were really excited about. I remember being a young actor and thinking,...

The unmitigated boredom and lackluster unoriginality “All the Old Knives” prides itself on shouldn’t shock anyone. After a long line of dreary espionage flicks — “The 355,” “Red Sparrow,” “Wasp Network,” “Beirut” and so forth — Hollywood, outside of the dependable action franchises like “James Bond” and “Mission Impossible,” has been inconsistent at best, producing spy thrillers that possess an enthralling mix of explosions and romance.

One of a few documentaries at Glasgow's 2022 Film Festival to explore America's parallel carceral state(s), Hold Your Fire is a about an incident widely regarded as being the birth of hostage negotiation. In New York, 1973, four young black men held up a sporting goods store, seeking to acquire (more) guns. Needless to say, things did not go according to plan.
The scenarios since are sufficiently familiar that there are at least two films called The Negotiator, but also that audiences might be expected to be familiar enough with them that Spike Lee can play with those conventions in Inside Man. The scenarios before are filmed too, mention made of 1972's Chase Manhattan siege as Dog Day Afternoon and the contemporary incident in Munich. What's weirder is the bleeding edge of futurity, New York skylines which only recently had added buildings that are now no longer there,...
