    The golden age of puppetry

When TV series featuring puppetry like Sesame Street and The Muppet Show rose to prominence, studios from all parts of the globe go on to make their own puppetry shows. Today, puppetry, along with traditional animation, seem to have faded from the media, probably as a result of the rise of computer animation. Nevertheless, the Sesame Street and Muppet franchises are still relevant.

In the mid-1990s, a series called Blue's Clues aired on the Nickelodeon channel. While the series was still running in the early 2000s, someone decided to make a different version of the series called Blue's Room. But unlike the first series which uses cutout animation, this later series uses Muppet style puppetry. I have a feeling puppetry was still in its heydey at the time.

As I am hardly a fan of the franchise, I never saw Blue's Room on television. However, I was able to watch two episodes online recently. Anyway, in the first series, Blue only barks. But in this show, Blue actually speaks which I find quite expressive (I also adore the bark-only Blue). This series centers on Blue who interacts with other puppet characters in her house. Also included is Joe who is the host the of the first series at the time. Besides interacting with the show's new characters, Blue and Joe would at times play a classic Blue's Clues game of finding clues indicated by canine paw prints. When the show entered its second season, we are introduced to Blue's baby brother Sprinkles who, to date, is Blue's only known relation. I wonder what it would be like if he (Sprinkles) were to return in a later series?

Upon watching the show online, I felt like I travelled by back in time to when some things were still common, namely puppetry. I can also tell the whoever designed this show did a find job in giving the Blue franchise a more realistic feel.

    Delightful!

Blue's Room is one of the best preschool programs that Nickelodeon has ever produced. Although it premiered over a decade ago, its charm hasn't been lost in time. When it first premiered, some were hesitant to watch it because of the obvious differences from the original Blue's Clues, but I'd say that the puppets on Blue's Room make it even better. Characters like Polka Dots and Sprinkles have a lot more depth than I would expect for a Nick Jr. show. Their distinct personalities make this show enjoyable for all! It's a shame that only two seasons were produced, as its level of quality can't be found on TV these days. I'm hoping that Nick Jr. chooses to air reruns of the show in the near future, because I'm sure the current generation would benefit from the simple lessons taught over the course of one episode.

    Not a good spinoff

Blue's Room was terrible as a segment on Blue's Clues Season Six. It rushed through every episode just for the segment. The first season was boring and it was a rip-off of Bear in the Big Blue House and Pee-Wee's Playhouse.

Although the second season was a great improvement mainly because Joe was there to make things more amazing and remind me of the original series. Plus the theming made everything more interesting to watch. It would've been nice if Steve was in the big anniversary episode where we meet Sprinkles.

I always prefer Blue's Clues and The Upside Down Show over the so called "spinoff".

    Another musing for another show.

I have no interest in this show whatsoever nor do i remember anything from this show. Ok maybe some things but only a few from the deeper memories.. I mean, This is the type of show that would make you want to fall asleep, Especially since season 6 where joe had to speed up most of the time by changing the songs around, self-drawing clues and whatnot, (At least the mail song hasn't changed) just to preserve time for this segment.. You had to compress some episodes down for blue to just take me into her mindnumbing room? Most of the puppets look like they came off of sesame street. What makes things even worse was the fact that i used to own a "Learn Through Music" cartridge of this certain crapbook. I'm only giving this a 2.5 because of the blue's room puppy scaring me two forks of a spoon. In other words, This show is pretty much crap. It should not exist, It should not be on blue's clues and It should not be a show nor does it deserve any merchandise.. I'm getting tired of having to "connect" myself to her mind just to "go invisible" right when she says "HI YOU!".. My god.. Also, 2.5 since the "doctor blue" segment does not portray my therapist at all.. Good day! ~ CL 2018-06-21
