Satire, not comedy

As I watched this film, I came to understand it more as a satire about traditional beliefs regarding nudity than as a comedy. The dialogue, with this viewpoint, seemed a lot less "stupid" and came across as more stylized (overly-so, however), and derisive, maybe even a little mocking in its portrayal of people who believe nudity is intrinsically evil or wrong. The film was kind of cute (maybe) in this way, but it got old, especially since the plot (such as it is) moves at a snail's pace.

For those of you who are looking for a skin-flick, however, you should definitely look elsewhere. This one talks incessantly about nudity, but there's very little of it, and what there is was really tame as nudity in movies goes these days.

No nudity?

This movie tried so hard to be funny but failed miserably. Humor is highly subjective, so I would be more generous in this score but for the lack of nudity. This is a farce about how nudity is overly sensitive in the US. I patiently suffered through this waiting for something funny or interesting all for not. OK, I admit I did not watch till the very end. If even one naked person was shown by the end then I withdraw my critical review.

Like I said humor is personal. It is also somewhat dependent on your state of mind. My recommendation is if you want to give this movie a chance keep your expectations at their lowest.

I wanted to like this movie a lot, but disliked it even more

This film claims to be a comedy, but delivers very little humor. The jokes weren't funny. The only people laughing in the theatre were either drunk before the film started or worked on the film. The plot didn't make much sense and the story was jumbled. Originally titled "Bakersfield" because the film took place there. I'm not sure why the writer/director/star decided to utilize Bakersfield as his backdrop other than to paint an otherwise unpleasant and untrue picture of its citizens. All I found were racial stereotyping and derogatory remarks made toward people in that town. The acting wasn't great, but that really falls on poor writing and directing. The editing was horrible. The random obscure soundtrack choices throughout the film were very annoying. I give the film 2 stars - 1 for trying and 1 for Eric Roberts.

Bizarrely funny movie

This movie is has really silly, bizarre comedy in it. It's set in the future when nudity has been outlawed. At times, it feels like an SNL skit. But it also has other deeper themes about politics and social issues and censorship and the media. At times, it's really effective at delivering those messages while making you laugh. At other times, it's jarring and even a little confusing as to what is going on in the plot. The confusing aspects are helped by the fact that the main character visits a therapist to tell her what's going on (his "assignment" by some government official to catch a naked woman who's on the loose). The therapist is hilarious. Those scenes are throughout most of the movie and were some of my favorites. Overall, an indie comedy that has some highs and some lows. Worth a look. If you like the first 15 minutes, you'll probably like the movie. If you don't like the first 15 minutes, move on to something else.
