Although their paths may not have crossed in the MCU (not yet anyway), Deadpool & Wolverine’s Channing Tatum and Spider-Man: No Way Home’s Jamie Foxx once put it all on the line in a gritty action thriller. Pressing the gas pedal down to the floor and steering subscribers directly into the summer blockbuster season, Netflix is officially the new home of White House Down. Though perhaps overshadowed by other similar blockbusters of the time, like the Gerard Butler and Morgan Freeman-led Olympus Has Fallen, the 2013 title has enjoyed a resurgence in recent years thanks to its appearance on streaming platforms, bringing the high-octane story to an entirely new set of eyes.
Trying to win favor in the eyes of his daughter, single father, John Cale (Tatum) scores tickets to a one-of-a-kind tour of the White House. An Afghanistan veteran, John now works as a Capitol policeman but...

Everyone dreams about living in a Toys “R” Us. You could sleep on a pile of stuffed animals, eat your three square meals in the candy aisle, stage epic action figure battles, and build Lego sets until the tips of your fingers crack from pushing plastic bricks together. However, what if you were living in a Toys “R” Us because you were hiding from the cops? That doesn’t sound like nearly as much fun. Or does it? In the new poster for Roofman, Channing Tatum lets his inner child out to play while avoiding the fuzz.

Paramount and Miramax have released the first trailer for Roofman, a new crime comedy based on an unbelievable true story. Channing Tatum stars as real-life felon Jeffrey Manchester, a former Army Ranger and struggling father who turns to robbing McDonald's restaurants by cutting holes in their roofs, earning him the nickname that the film is titled after. He eventually gets caught, escapes prison, and finds solace in a Toys "R" Us, where he decides to hide from the authorities — with no shortage of things to keep him entertained.
The trailer largely depicts his time in the toy store, suggesting that this is where most of the action will take place, though there will likely be some glimpses of his criminal activities and jail time. Despite his surroundings, it's not all fun and games, as Tatum's character constantly has to plan his next move to remain undetected during his six-month...

Channing Tatum is stepping into a very different kind of role in Roofman, a new crime comedy based on a true story. He plays Jeffrey Manchester, a man who escaped from prison and started robbing McDonald’s restaurants, not by walking in the front door, but by cutting through the roofs.
But that’s not even the wildest part. While on the run, Manchester secretly lived inside a closed Toys “R” Us for months without being caught. He built a hidden space inside the store and used it as a base while planning his next robbery.
The movie, directed by Derek Cianfrance, shows Manchester as more than just a thief. In the trailer, he’s seen being polite to the workers during the robberies. In one scene, he even gives employees coats before locking them in a freezer.

Channing Tatum is about to take on one of his wildest roles yet. In the upcoming movie Roofman, he plays Jeffrey Manchester, a former Army Ranger who escapes prison and ends up secretly living in a Toys “R” Us store.
The twist? He’s also robbing McDonald’s restaurants by cutting through their roofs. The first trailer shows that while he might be a criminal, he’s not your usual bad guy. For instance, when he traps the workers in a freezer, he politely makes sure they have their coats so they don’t freeze.
Directed by Derek Cianfrance, the filmmaker behind Blue Valentine, Roofman is inspired by a real story. Yes, this actually happened. Manchester really did break into fast food joints through the roofs and even managed to hide inside a closed-down Toys “R” Us for months without anyone noticing.

The first trailer for Paramount's upcoming Roofman movie has been released, giving a first look at the new Channing Tatum crime comedy film. Roofman comes from Blue Valentine and The Place Beyond the Pines director Derek Cianfrance and stars Channing Tatum, Kirsten Dunst, Ben Mendelsohn, Peter Dinklage, and more.
The Roofman trailer introduces the world to Channing Tatum's Jeffrey Manchester, based on the real-life criminal who evaded authorities by living within the walls of a Toys "R" Us store. The trailer explains the origins of the story, showing how Manchester escapes prison, why he hides out in the toy store, and how his life within the walls develops as he waits until the cops are off his trail.
However, the trailer also reveals that things immediately become complicated for Manchester. Manchester seems to enter a romantic relationship with Kirsten Dunst's Leigh Wainscott, although his discovery of her law enforcement connections puts him in jeopardy.

Channing Tatum drops through a toy-store ceiling—and back into awards-season contention—in the first trailer for “Roofman,” Derek Cianfrance’s first feature since 2016. Paramount will release the true-crime drama in U.S. theaters on 10 October 2025, slotting it squarely inside the fall festival corridor.
Adapted from the escapades of Jeffrey Manchester, who burglarized dozens of McDonald’s outlets by drilling in from above and later hid for six months inside a Charlotte Toys “R” Us, the film pairs Tatum with Kirsten Dunst, Peter Dinklage, Lakeith Stanfield and Juno Temple.
Festival watchers already see it as Cianfrance’s “major festival run” comeback, with pundits betting on Telluride or Toronto after nearly a decade away from the director’s chair. Critics at FilmoFilia call the premise “Cianfrance’s wildest swing yet,” noting its blend of romance and criminal absurdity.

Channing Tatum is going where he has never gone before on-screen: The actor/producer collaborates with legendary indie director Derek Cianfrance for crime drama “Roofman,” based on real-life felon Jeffrey Manchester. The film centers on Tatum’s depiction of Jeff, who was known for living in a Toys ’R’ Us store after escaping from prison. He sustained himself by breaking into more than 60 McDonald’s over the course of his crime career.
The first look at “Roofman” states that the film is “based on a true story *as told by a liar.” The film takes place over the course of six months in 2004, during which Jeff lived under the alias “John Zorn” in a North Carolina community. Kirsten Dunst portrays Leigh Wainscott, the divorced mom who works at Toys ’R’ Us and falls for Tatum’s character. Ben Mendelsohn, Lakeith Stanfield, Juno Temple, Melonie Diaz, Uzo Aduba, Lily Collias, Jimmy O. Yang,...

Who lives in Toys “R” Us and robs Mickey D’s? Channing Tatum! Well at least in his new role.
“Roofman,” a new film coming this October from writer/director Derek Cianfrance and co-writer Kirt Gunn, just released its first trailer. The crime drama, based on real-world robber Jeffrey Manchester, almost looks too strange to be biographical.
Tatum stars as Manchester, an ex-Army Ranger who escapes prison after being arrested for robbing a string of McDonald’s locations. He earned his nickname by drilling holes in the ceilings of the buildings he planned to rob, jumping in from above. After Manchester escapes from prison, he sets up shop in the walls of a Toys “R” Us, living off of baby food as he plans his next crime. You can watch the trailer below.

Paramount will lean into the comedy genre with its upcoming slate of titles, presented yesterday (June 18) at CineEurope.
On panel sessions at the trade convention, cinema operators have been calling for more-rounded film slates, and decrying the lack of adult-skewing comedies that in the past have been supplied by the likes of The Hangover, Ted, Judd Apatow productions and Adam Sandler vehicles.
In upcoming months, Paramount will release both The Naked Gun and Scary Movie 6.
Announced is Meet The Parents 4, starring Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro, which Paramount has for international markets and Universal in North America. Ariane Grande will join the cast.

It wouldn’t be “Scary Movie” without the Wayans brothers.
When Jonathan Glickman took over as head of Miramax a year ago, the studio was struggling to reboot the franchise. Glickman knew that a successful relaunch required one essential ingredient — the involvement of Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans and Keenen Ivory Wayans, the siblings who gave those popular comedies their subversive spark.
“You need to have some connective tissue with the original property,” Glickman says. “It gives legitimacy to a project so it doesn’t seem like just a cash grab.”
But getting the Wayanses wasn’t easy. The brothers believed that Harvey and Bob Weinstein, the bullying, bare-knuckle and (in the case of Harvey) disgraced founders of Miramax, had given them a “crappy” deal on the first film in the series, released in 2000, then “stole” their idea. By the time the third, fourth and fifth “Scary Movie” hit theaters, the Wayanses were no longer involved.

CinemaCon is an industry event held every April in Las Vegas for theater owners, designed to get them excited to want to book a given studio’s movie on their screens, but increasingly it’s become more akin to something like ComicCon. Fanboy bloggers attend to be the first to see footage from upcoming films, oftentimes months before anything is released to the public online. And we as journalists spend time describing the footage we saw, how the audience reacted, and what studio brass have to say about it all.
Now the movie theaters are doing our job for us. Select movie theaters nationwide will screen some highlights of CinemaCon 2025, a curated presentation of trailers, extended scenes, and other promos that you can watch in your local theater before that footage eventually gets played before an actual movie sometime down the road.

Las Vegas – Paramount Pictures will soon be a very different company. Once the Skydance merger is completed, the current regime will likely depart. That made it an uncomfortable public appearance for current Paramount co-ceo Brian Robbins. Long associated with the company since his directing days, Robbins noted he was “Proud of what we have accomplished despite all the noise at our parent company.” Robbins and his team are also leaving the cupboards somewhat bare (somewhat intentionally), but luckily, they still have one last Tom Cruise “Mission: Impossible” movie.

After joining the MCU, creating a film production empire, and closing out his iconic tenure as “Magic Mike,” Channing Tatum is making yet another career pivot: leading legendary indie director Derek Cianfrance’s latest feature, “Roofman.”
Tatum stars as the titular vigilante who lived in a Toys ’R’ Us store and broke into more than 60 McDonald’s, emptying cash registers after herding staffs into freezers. The Roofman robber became an urban myth, and now it’s Tatum’s turn to bring his story to the screen. Tatum onstage at CinemaCon teased the footage and called him the “unusually polite” robber and said Cianfrance’s film is “equal parts devastatingly emotional but also hilarious.”
The trailer that was shown at CinemaCon described the film as “based on a true story *as told by a liar.” Tatum’s character explains that after escaping from prison, running as far away as possible doesn’t work.
