‘Train to Busan’ Remake Director Gives Update on Stalled Production
Ali Fikry, Andri Mashadi, Hana Malasan, Kristo Immanuel, Adipati Dolken, and Aurora Ribero in L'Ombre rebelle (2024)
Nearly three years ago, it was announced that Timo Tjahjanto (The Shadow Strays, V/H/S/94) had been enlisted to helm the remake of South Korean zombie epic Train to Busan for New Line Cinema, titled The Last Train to New York before being pulled from the schedule. The filmmaker recently gave an update on the film’s status.

When asked by a fan on X whether the director was still attached to the project, Tjahjanto replied “I’ve been ready since 2020, but when a film is stalled that’s not up to the director.”

The Last Train to New York was initially dated for theatrical release on April 21, 2023 before being temporarily un-dated in 2022. This is the first update, though not much of one, since the news that the remake was being pulled from the release slate.

In the original 2016 film from filmmaker Yeon Sang-ho, a zombie virus breaks out in South Korea,...

'Really, Really Saved Me': Christina Ricci Says Hollywood Rescued Her From 'Not Very Nice' Childhood
Image
Acclaimed actor Christina Ricci is now among the many stars immortalized on the Hollywood Walk of Fame following a decorated film and TV career. Not only has acting given the Yellowjackets star success and fame, but she credits the industry for saving her from a tumultuous childhood.

Speaking with Variety about her Walk of Fame induction, which she called a "profoundly meaningful" moment in her decades-long career, Ricci opened up about her love for acting and what it did for her professionally and personally. Ricci admitted that becoming a film star gave her renewed purpose after a "not very nice" childhood with a family she didn't feel safe around. Having landed key roles in Mermaids, Casper and The Addams Family as a young actor, she showed she could handle the spotlight from an early age. However, she had to overcome the toxicity of home life to deliver on-screen.

One Detail Of This 22-Year-Old Discworld Book Makes It The Ideal Story To Adapt
Image
An important detail of this 22-year-old book in the Discworld series by Sir Terry Pratchett makes it a great story to use for a potential adaptation. Many of the books within the series showcase a wonderful combination of love for the fantasy genre and a strong ability to satirize it, allowing the best Discworld books to be enjoyable to a wide audience and memorable due to its unique worldbuilding. However, those qualities and the structure of the series make choosing a story to adapt within Discworld difficult, as the several attempts at doing so over the years have shown.

While a Discworld TV show or movie would introduce new audiences to Practhett's work, finding the proper place to begin is a trying task. Discworld's books all have plots focusing on different groups, but some of those plots end up intersecting with others, making an adaptation of just one section...

William: Mason Coile’s AI horror novel gets an adaptation from Anything for Jackson director Justin G. Dyck
Image
Justin G. Dyck has almost 40 directing credits to his name, and most of those credits have been on TV movie romances with titles like Christmas Wedding Planning, Christmas with a View, A Very Country Wedding, and Art of Falling in Love… but recently, Dyck has been shifting gears. In 2020, he brought us the supernatural horror movie Anything for Jackson (pictured above), which was released through the Shudder streaming service. He went on to contribute to episodes of Shudder’s Creepshow series. Last month, we heard he will be directing the horror film The Casket Girls, starring Gabrielle Union. Now, Deadline reports that Dyck will be directing the haunted house movie William for Aperture Entertainment.

William is an adaptation of a novel by Andrew Pyper, which was written under the author’s sci-fi/thriller pen name Mason Coile. Pyper is writing the screenplay with Chris Sivertson, whose previous writing credits include The Image of You,...

Aperture Entertainment Adapting Mason Coile Thriller Novel ‘William’; Justin Dyck To Direct
Image
Exclusive: Aperture Entertainment has optioned rights to bestselling author Andrew Pyper’s recently published novel William, with Justin Dyck set to direct.

Penned under Pyper’s sci-fi/thriller pen name Mason Coile, William hit store shelves September 3 via Putnam.

The author and Chris Sivertson will adapt the novel as a thriller to be shot in Canada.

A contained sci-fi horror film that blends the worlds of Ex Machina and The Amityville Horror, William is set in a timely haunted house story in which the haunting is AI.

The New York Times Book Review praised the novel, calling it “a cyber-horror tale that combines cerebrality and carnage … a twist on The Shining in which the house is haunted by a ghost in the machine. … Coile [elevates the genre] with meticulously unsettling prose and a knowing dissection of character that transcends stereotype.”

Pyper is the internationally bestselling author of 11 novels including The Demonologist,...

‘Mindcage’ Review
Image
Stars: Martin Lawrence, Melissa Roxburgh, John Malkovich, Chris Mullinax, Nellie Sciutto | Written by Reggie Keyohara III | Directed by Mauro Borrelli

Martin Lawrence is known for his comedic roles, but in Mindcage he plays it straight as Detective Jake Doyle who along with his partner Mary Kelly is tracking down a serial killer whose handiwork we see in the opening scene, a woman’s body turned into a statue in a church.

The killing looks like it was inspired by the work of a previous serial killer Arnaud Lefeure, better known as The Artist. Jake put him away years ago though and he’s scheduled to be executed in two weeks. After another victim is found, transformed into an angel, and attached to a locomotive the decision is made to try to get help from Lefeure.

If this makes you think of Silence of the Lambs you’re not alone. Writer...

Interview: Chris Sivertson talks Christina Ricci and ‘Monstrous’
Image
Ahead of the UK digital release of his feature film Monstrous (read our review here), writer/director Chris Sivertson talks about the joy of working with Christina Ricci, monstrous inspirations and why horror films are our modern-day fairy tales.

What drew you to take the helm on Monstrous, given that you usually direct films you’ve either written or co-written?

Christina Ricci was already attached to the script when it came to me so that was a huge draw. I’ve loved her as an actress for decades and have always admired the interesting choices she makes in material. Then I got even more excited when I read the script. I just thought it was a beautiful and emotional story and it clicked perfectly with my sensibilities. I saw pretty clearly what I could bring to it as a filmmaker.

You drew a magnificent performance from Christina Ricci. What was it like directing her?...
