Edit
The girls' one bedroom guest house is actually a combination of three separate apartments in the Los Angeles area.
Not only do Sage, Margot and Josie dress as The Golden Girls in episode four; their individual story arcs are inspired by the show as well. Sage (Rose) gets tipsy for the first time in her life, Margot (Dorothy) suffers a romantic disappointment and Josie (Blanche) encourages the girls to go outside their comfort zones to facilitate her own fun.
A scheduling issue forced cast and crew members to shoot portions of episode three on USC's campus during the first home football game of the season. You can hear the marching band warming up briefly in one scene.
There are many references to Margot's muse, Audrey Hepburn, in the first season. The sleep mask she wears in episode two is a recreation of the one featured in Breakfast at Tiffany's. In episode three, a book of Hepburn's magazine covers can be seen on the bed while Margot paints her nails. Some of her costumes in later episodes are directly inspired by Holly Golightly and Regina Lambert: two of Hepburn's most iconic characters.
A large fern is almost always visible to left of the couch in living room scenes. The plant is nicknamed "Jeanine" and referred to as such on set.
