Static Shock, one of the most powerful characters in the DC Comics, has been alleged to join James Gunn’s Dcu in future projects. Gunn revealed that he plans to include Static Shock and The Authority in the Dcu in future projects. However, that doesn’t mean that Gunn won’t face his fair share of hurdles during the time.
Gunn admitted to The New Blerd Order that the difficult task would be to integrate the character of Static Shock into the Dcu because he hasn’t been established in the cinematic universe, much like The Authority.

While fans of Guardians of the Galaxy may have hoped to see Chris Pratt don the cowl, James Gunn has made it clear: “As Batman? No. As something else? Yes.” That definitive response came during an interview, settling rampant speculation about Pratt’s Dcu future. (Yahoo Entertainment)
IGN’s coverage reinforces the sentiment, pointing out that while Pratt won’t be Batman, Gunn “sounds like he’s going to get his Guardians of the Galaxy pal into the Dcu eventually.” (IGN)
ComicBook.com floated three intriguing Dcu roles that might suit the actor’s charm and quirkiness:
Booster Gold – A spotlight-loving, tech‑reliant hero much like Star‑Lord, still open for casting on television.

Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord is easily one of the biggest names missing from the massive cast of the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. However, Star-Lord will return, and according to insider Alex Perez, his new role sees him break a record that none of the original six Avengers have managed to achieve.
He’ll be back and will build a new team of unlikely heroes. Not Gotg.
Perez made the above statement during a Q&a session on The Cosmic Circus, where he shared the rumored plans for Pratt’s return to the MCU. According to the scooper, Pratt will form a new team in his next appearance, and here’s how...

Exclusive: Trying to build a slate of original content is hard enough for anyone working in the industry, but try doing that under the constant threat of attacks from a neighboring country.
That’s exactly what Anna Gonchar, Head of Investment and Partnership Projects at the TV Business of Ukraine’s 1+1 Media has been doing since Russia began its full-scale invasion of the European country in 2022.
“We’re still standing and still doing everything we can to keep on going,” she told Deadline in an exclusive interview. “It’s not getting easier and sometimes even getting tougher. You can’t live under this stress all this time, but we are really motivated – we know the truth we are standing for. It pushes us to be more inventive and creative.”

Who will be the next James Bond? Who will be the next Doctor Who? Who will be the next Batman? These are three questions that seem to come around time and time again, and two of them have been dominating headlines recently with speculation about who will fill two of cinema's most coveted roles. For the latter, James Gunn has yet to cast his Dcu Batman, who will fight for Gotham City in an alternate reality to that of Robert Pattinson’s The Batman. While many people are in the frame according to rumors, betting odds, and fan speculation, Gunn has confirmed one person who won’t be donning the cape and cowl,...

Marvel Studios doesn't stop surprising audiences around the world. The legendary Marvel Cinematic Universe has been thrilling fans since its inception in 2008 and now, 37 movies and 12 TV shows later (along with $30 billion at the box office), it's clear that there is no end to the love that people have for the MCU. And that extends to its characters as well.
As the studio is hard at work on bringing Avengers: Doomsday and Spider-Man: Brand New Day to life as both of next year's big releases will kickstart the beginning of the end of the Multiverse Saga. And with that will come new storytelling opportunities. It will also bring plenty of major MCU returns.

Vin Diesel has been teasing a standalone Groot movie for quite some time now. The Guardians of the Galaxy star gave us an update in an August 2025 post on Instagram:
I was always fascinated by the origins of how the Hobbit came to be… the idea that it started as a story a father would tell his children around a campfire.
As you know, I have been deep in development and writing on so many of the characters I have grown a bond with. Just recently, I read to my family, The Arbor King… the long awaited story of Groot’s return to Planet X…

Sean Gunn has no clue if he will appear in Marvel’s upcoming ensemble film, Avengers: Doomsday. In James Gunn‘s Guardians of the Galaxy movies, his brother played Kraglin, who went from one of Yondu’s henchmen ravagers to a member of the new Guardians. He also played Rocket Raccoon on the set of the movies, while Bradley Cooper voiced the role.
During his appearance on Brandon Davis’ Phase Hero podcast, Gunn was asked about whether Kraglin or Rocket would show up in Doomsday. Davis also noted that he didn’t have a chair when Marvel announced the cast for Doomsday. He shared that he didn’t know whether...

Chris Pratt almost missed out on the role that would make him a household name in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In an interview with Esquire, Pratt talked about a terrible audition for a G.I. Joe movie that left him feeling embarrassed and unsure about future roles.

That experience was so discouraging that he initially turned down the chance to audition for Guardians of the Galaxy, fearing he might humiliate himself again.

Almost 30 years ago, two Shakespeare adaptations released only months apart from each other, both capturing a distinctly ’90s vibe at opposite ends of the spectrum. Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet appealed to mainstream tastes, while Troma’s Tromeo and Juliet delivered a much wilder adaptation that only Troma could.
Tromeo and Juliet checks off the usual transgressive humor and outlandish, oft gory gags from which Troma built its reputation. Still, it also dares to give the star-crossed lovers the happy ending Shakespeare never afforded them. The genre-leaning rom-com marks the first screenwriting credit for filmmaker James Gunn (Superman) and serves as a blueprint for the trademark blend of rampant...

James Gunn just released a three-minute clip of Edi Gathegi’s Mister Terrific fighting Lex Luthor’s henchmen in Superman. Being a Gunn production, the fight scene, of course, had a catchy song playing in the background.
For those of you who really liked that song, let me offer a little help. The song’s name is ‘5 Years Time’ and is performed by Noah & The Whale. An upbeat indie track, the song fits perfectly with Edi Gathegi’s fight scene in Superman. The song is one of many in the soundtrack of Superman, and somehow, they fit perfectly with the theme of the movie.
With a huge IP like Superman, I had my doubts about James Gunn about his usage of songs in his movies. However, watching the film was a totally different experience.

James Gunn’s Superman was designed as a fresh start for movies and TV shows based on DC Comics characters. As Gunn and Peter Safran reboot a franchise that largely wasn’t working, they were prepared to set aside nearly all of the remnants of the DC Extended Universe.

Superman was one of the standout releases of 2025, a year that became massive for cinephiles. In a year that had horror masterpieces like Sinners, live-action darlings like Lilo & Stitch, and action blockbusters like Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, James Gunn’s Superman not only held its own but also became a must-watch release.
Led by David Corenswet in the titular role of the Man of Steel, the franchise-first movie brought a breath of fresh air to the DC universe, and many believed it would become a box office juggernaut. The film pulled in an impressive $580 million at the box office on a $225 million budget, and has an IMDb rating of 7.5 and a Rotten Tomatoes score of 83%. Still, despite being a hit, it fell short of the $1 billion mark many had predicted.

The fact that it’s been 7 years since One Piece foreshadowed one of the most crushing sacrifices in Shonen is unbelievable. That’s right, people. 7 years ago, in 2018, One Piece Episode 849, “Before the Dawn! Pedro, the Captain of the Guardians!” foreshadowed one of Shonen’s most devastating sacrifices with Pedro.
This episode is a masterpiece and fully establishes Pedro’s past as a mink warrior and his ties to the mighty Gol D. Roger. We also get to see his commitment to the Straw Hats and understand that Pedro is not just a mere supporting character, but a symbol of selfless resolve.
Pedro’s Ideals and the Seeds of Sacrifice Pedro reveals the bombs strapped to him | Credits: Toei Animation
Ah, the tears won’t stop. Anyways, the reason why we’re hyping up One Piece Episode 849 is because it is the textbook example of how you craft a heart-wrenching sacrifice.

Marvel took a chance by hiring Gunn despite his lack of big-budget experience back then. This move resulted in Guardians earning $333.1 million domestically and launching a billion-dollar franchise. Over a decade later, he has brought the same energy to Superman, which has crossed $333.7 million in North America and is on track to reach $600 million worldwide before its PVOD release on August 15.

Warning: Contains Spoilers for Predator Kills the Marvel Universe #1!There are several beloved superhero teams in the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe, but one stands above the rest as perhaps the most beloved of all: the Guardians of the Galaxy. Unfortunately, that's not enough to save the team from the brutal slaughter they just endured in Marvel Comics.
In Predator Kills the Marvel Universe #1 by Benjamin Percy, Marcelo Ferreira, and Daniel Picciotto, the Yautja species have decided not only to hunt on Earth, but to claim the entire planet as their own. The only problem is that Earth is heavily defended in the Marvel Universe, so more than a few superheroes have to go, including the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Interestingly, the Guardians of the Galaxy's deaths were something of a precursor to the Predators' eventual strike against Earth, almost like a practice run before the main event. However, that...

While it may be waning at the box office, The Fantastic Four: First Steps has already outsold an infamous DC Extended Universe movie. Led by Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm), Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm), and Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm), First Steps introduced a new version of The Fantastic Four into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
First Steps has stumbled at the box office, suffering a 60% drop this weekend on top of last week's 66% drop. With sharply declining returns, it does not have anywhere close to the legs that Marvel has traditionally expected from each release. While it has stumbled, its opening weekend helped to usher in an immense $117.6 million domestic take.
Thanks to that opening, First Steps has surpassed DC's Justice League (2017) in its third weekend, according to a report by The Numbers. The latest MCU movie has reportedly earned $230 million domestically, while Justice League brought in $229 million in its entire run.

In a perfect world, the 2013 animated movie, Superman: Unbound, would be the perfect successor to James Gunn‘s Dcu debut feature. The film has all the qualities and story elements suited to follow up Clark Kent’s story from his early rise in Metropolis and fight against Lex Luthor and his clone, Ultraman.
Unbound is upbeat, optimistic, full of hope for the future, has a deep-rooted connection to Kryton throughout the movie’s arc rather than keeping it as a one-and-done forgotten backstory, and above all, boasts a villain formidable enough to single-handedly capture and beat Superman.
If that alone does not make it a spiritual successor to the Dcu Superman, then what else qualifies?

Marvel Studios has produced the most expansive, successful, and beloved franchise in Hollywood history. It's true; the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been a force since its introduction with Iron Man in 2008 and it has proceeded to tell some of the most compelling long-form stories across the years that have come since, ensuring that fans just can't get enough of the MCU.
It's incredible, and what makes this particular franchise all the more impressive is that storylines and plot threads can be followed up in just about any installments; they don't even have to be direct sequels. That's the beauty of the MCU in that it is a shared universe that can tell multiple stories across many films. Look no further than this year's Captain America: Brave New World, which carried on storylines that hadn't been explored since 2008's The Incredible Hulk.
But that doesn't negate the need for direct sequels,...

James Gunn has had quite the journey when it comes to his Hollywood career. From his early days as a writer working with Troma Entertainment to his mainstream screenwriting breakthrough with his two live-action "Scooby-Doo" films and "Dawn of the Dead," Gunn has showcased a love for colorful characters amidst the backdrop of niche genres. However, he would make his directorial debut with his horror comedy, "Slither" in 2006, followed by his sophomore outing, "Super" in 2010.
However, most audiences were introduced to James Gunn's sensibilities with "Guardians of the Galaxy" in 2014. Although Marvel Studios is often criticized for its movies following a distinct formula, Gunn stood out as one of the few filmmakers whose signature style remained prominent amidst the hit-making factory that the Marvel Cinematic Universe was at its prime. The fact that he turned D-list Marvel characters like the Guardians into A-listers within the general public cannot be stressed enough.

Chris Pratt recently talked about the return of his Guardians of the Galaxy character, Star Lord in upcoming MCU movies and projects, and he is making good on his promise. Despite James Gunn leaving the MCU to handle the reins of the Dcu, it seems that Pratt might just continue without him.
The actor appeared for a one-on-one talk with Today, where the question of Star Lord’s return was raised. Pratt had an honest answer about how they made a promise at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Superman's co-composer, John Murphy, explains why he prefers working with DC in comparison to Marvel Studios. The composer is a frequent collaborator of James Gunn, having written scores for Guardians of the GalaxyVol. 3 for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Peacemaker and The Suicide Squad for the DC Extended Universe.
The highly rated new Superman movie marked the latest project from the 28 Days Later composer, who wrote the tracks "Theme from Superman (Official Trailer Version)," "LuthorCorp," "Lois & Clark," "Raising the Flag," and "Walking on Air."
In an interview with ScreenRant, Murphy compared his experience working with Marvel Studios and DC. He shared that he came to work with Marvel on GotG Vol. 3, and while he appreciated the overall "professional" approach, he did feel the emotional distance and admitted to having to "deal with politics separately." “The Bad Guys 2” sees all of Mr. Wolf’s wild entourage of thieves return in the sequel, all in an effort to pull off another big heist.
It’s been five years since the events of the first film, and the crew isn’t quite the same. The luxurious lives they once lived has been reduced to a check-to-check lifestyle, and instead of foreign cars, they’re just lucky to make it around town in a beat up, old vehicle. But all hope isn’t lost. In fact, a new group of swindlers makes them an offer they can’t refuse — literally.
The old gang is back, but check out all the newcomers in the cast below.

As the likes of All Elite Wrestling and World Wrestling Entertainment have become fully fledged entertainment brands, rather than just wrestling promotions, it's become more common to see the in-ring performers make the jump to Hollywood -- and no, not those awful movies like "The Chaperone," "The Marine 6: Close Quarters," or any of Hulk Hogan's questionable straight-to-video offerings. You only need to look at how Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns were cast in major roles as Guile and Akuma respectively in Kitao Sakurai's "Street Fighter" reboot movie. In the past, they may have been credited as Thug #1 and Thug #2 in some random action scene.
Considering how wacky the world of pro wrestling is, it's no surprise to see it cross over much more with comic book movies and TV shows. After all, pro wrestlers are simply superheroes in skimpier tights and with their own catchphrases -- and...

As promised last year by Disney CEO Bob Iger, Marvel Studios has scaled back to only 2-3 feature film releases each year, and with “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” in theaters, that’s it for the 2025 lineup. So, what’s left between now and Dec. 26, 2026, when Marvel’s next major “Avengers” film comes out? Not much.
“The Fantastic Four: First Steps” is the third Marvel Cinematic Universe film of 2025, following “Captain America: Brave New World” and “Thunderbolts*.” Meanwhile on Disney+, Season 1 of “Daredevil: Born Again” wrapped up in April, “Ironheart” streamed in June, and only a few more MCU TV shows are coming before the end of next year.
With this reduced slate, how will “Avengers: Doomsday” not only bring back a ton of characters, but set it all up to work story-wise? Obviously, it’s hard to say, other than knowing “Fantastic Four” set up Doctor Doom, their next major villain.

Superheroes killing in the name of justice has been a controversial topic for decades now. In 1992, Tim Burton's weird experiment "Batman Returns" hit theaters and managed to upset audiences on several different levels. Parents (and McDonald's) were affronted by the general tone of Burton's nightmare Gotham, to the extent that the Warner Bros execs decided to change course dramatically with the next movie, dropping Burton as director in favor of Joel Schumacher, who then delivered 1995's more colorful, fan-friendly blockbuster "Batman Forever" (an overlooked Batman movie that's more groundbreaking than you realize). But some fans were dismayed by "Returns" for another reason — namely, that Michael Keaton's Batman was a stone-cold killer, dousing one criminal in jet fuel and blowing another sky high without flinching.
Fast-forward to the 2010s and the same debate was playing out among fans, only this time it also involved DC's other biggest hero: Superman.

Vin Diesel might’ve let something slip. The actor behind Marvel’s Groot posted an update on Instagram that sounded like a big reveal, a new Groot movie, but then quickly edited it to remove all mentions of the project.
In his original caption, Diesel wrote, “So much to be excited about… Finally finished the Groot sequel for our friends at Disney… The Arbor King.” That was enough to send fans into full speculation mode. He even added, “You all know the other films in process or upcoming, but something about the continuation of that beloved floral colossus just feels different.”
Via Instagram
But not long after posting, Diesel quietly edited the caption and took out the part about Groot, making fans wonder if he spoke too soon, or maybe wasn’t supposed to say anything yet. Marvel hasn’t commented on the situation.

Some things just go together perfectly, like peanut butter and jelly, coffee and cherry pie, and Nathan Fillion and James Gunn. The Canadian-American actor and American writer/director/co-ceo of DC Studios have been working together for decades on all kinds of projects, including Gunn's recent big screen kick-off for his DC Universe, "Superman." In "Superman," written and directed by Gunn, Fillion plays Green Lantern Guy Gardner, a very different version of the DC hero than the one many fans know and love, Hal Jordan. (Fillion previously voiced Jordan in multiple direct-to-home-media DC animated movies, but the live-action role at the time went to his former "Two Guys and a Girl" co-star Ryan Reynolds instead.)
In fact, Fillion has starred in more Gunn projects than just about anyone, save maybe Gunn's own brother Sean Gunn, going all the way back to the director's 2005 feature debut, "Slither." "Slither" is a...

One Guardians of the Galaxy star teased an imminent MCU return in a recent Instagram post. The Guardians have not been heard from within the MCU since 2023's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. In fact, with the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday on the horizon, no characters from James Gunn's intergalactic trilogy have been confirmed to appear in the new film, making them one of the key exclusions for the Multiversal Marvel team-up.
That does not necessarily mean the star-faring team is done within the super-powered franchise for good; it is just that their next appearance has not been publicly announced. Actors like Karen Gillan have teased their potential MCU return over the last couple of months, leading some to believe they may end up appearing in Doomsday, but Marvel is not willing to officially confirm that.

He might be taking his time to build the all-new Dcu (with a production Bible to match), but when it came to creating a crucial piece of lore within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, James Gunn spent about the same amount of time creating it as it would take to read this article. In a recent interview with GQ, the "Superman" director reflected on his time across the street with the other blockbuster superhero franchise and explained how he casually came up with the idea of the Infinity Stones. It turns out that making some of the most powerful objects in the universe isn't as complicated as you might think.
It was in Gunn's first Marvel movie, "Guardians of the Galaxy," that besides dealing with Vin Diesel's line delivery, we finally got a full breakdown of the Infinity Stones that the Mad Titan, Thanos (Josh Brolin), was so obsessed with.

The latest revealed DC Studios television project is a "Booster Gold" TV show from David Jenkins (creator of "Our Flag Means Death"), which has been ordered to pilot at HBO Max (per Deadline). Booster Gold (created by Dan Jurgens in 1986), aka Jon Michael Carter, is a time-traveling superhero from the future. Though he hails from the 25th century, his story is familiar: he's a jock who peaked in high school (being caught gambling on your own games will do that to you). So, he travels back in time in hope of becoming a big fish in a smaller pond.
Though Booster is dense and a self-promoting gloryhound, he's not a bad guy. He's similar to James Gunn's take on Peter Quill/Star-Lord and so should fit naturally into Gunn's new DC Universe if his pilot moves forward. "Booster Gold...

This article contains spoilers for "The Fantastic Four: First Steps."
The Fantastic Four are comic book characters that make perfect sense on the pages of "the world's greatest comic magazine," as the Stan Lee slogan has said on Ff covers for decades. Cinematically, they're much trickier. That's because the history of superheroes on screen is distinct from their history in comics, and comic book movies established themselves early on as stories about singular heroes. When the first big comic book movie about a team of heroes occurred with 2000's "X-Men," a new dynamic was established, one which built upon "men on a mission" movies of the past (like "The Dirty Dozen") and eventually developed into films like "The Avengers." The Fantastic Four, as seen in the comics, were created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby as a space-age answer to a then-popular trend of movies and shows that chronicled the adventures of tight-knit family units.

Superman may be the Man of Steel, but Mr. Terrific is hands-down the most terrific hero populating the newly relaunched DC cinematic universe. That's one of the key takeaways from James Gunn's Superman, which promotes DC Comics' resident tech genius and brilliant tactician from the B-list to the A-list. Played by Edi Gathegi, Mr. Terrific emerges as the breakout star of the blockbuster film, scoring big laughs and an even bigger solo action sequence that firmly establishes him as a force to be reckoned with.

James Gunn‘s Super, starring Rainn Wilson, marked the former’s Cbm debut as a director and laid the groundwork for the misfit superhero trend that has remained prevalent in his works since then. With Gunn now in charge of an entire cinematic universe, Wilson deserves another shot at the superhero gig, especially with Gunn being open to more tonally distinct projects.
Even though Super remains one of Gunn’s more polarizing entries to date, given Wilson’s blend of comedy and emotional depth, it’s about time his chops are put to use in the live-action arena of the DC universe.

The Dream of the Endless is essentially an idea, an idea that was born out of Time and Night, weaving an alternate realm where ideas sprang towards possibility. Ideas like Fiddler’s Green, the Guardians, or as insignificant as Goldie. Ideas cannot die, but the vessel that contains them shall change. Morpheus is a contour of the idea of Dream, and once his actions had decided his destiny, the contour started to wear off. In the first volume of The Sandman Season 2, we see Morpheus changing into something inexplicably humane. Morpheus, who was unbent by his son’s pleas for years, finally granted Orpheus the mercy of death. However, according to the law of the Furies—the three sister selves of mother, maiden, and crone, known as the Kindly Ones in the guise of a euphemism—the endless who had spilled family blood had to die. A fun surprise in the latest "Superman" movie was the appearance of Bradley Cooper as Superman's biological father. He's only in the movie for a minute, and he's seen exclusively through a recording he left for Superman when he sent him off to Earth as a baby. The limited screentime means there's basically no time to get used to the casting, so most of the time he's on screen, the viewer's left thinking, "Wait, is that Bradley Cooper?" and then wondering how and why he was cast in the role.
In a recent interview, director/writer James Gunn explained how the Cooper cameo came to be. He explained how, from day one, he was looking for someone who'd match the vibes of Marlon Brando, the actor who played Superman's father Jor-El in the 1978 movie.
