After a lackluster $42 million opening weekend and soft mid-week returns, the outlook is bleak for Disney’s “Snow White.” But despite that, it is expected to hold on to No. 1 even as five wide releases, including Amazon MGM’s “A Working Man” and A24’s “Death of a Unicorn,” are set to hit theaters.
Between Monday and Wednesday, the latest Disney remake grossed $8.6 million, bringing its domestic total to $50.8 million after six days. By comparison, the 2019 remake of “Dumbo,” opened to $45.9 million and grossed $9.8 million in its first Mon.-Wed. period before earning a second weekend total of $18.2 million, a 60% drop from its opening weekend.
“Snow White” should have a similar second weekend total, perhaps doing a little better and cracking $20 million. The one bit of good news for the film is that reception has been strong among family and female audiences, the core audience Disney needs to leg out through spring break.

Universal Pictures has released the new trailer and poster for Drop, the upcoming thriller from Blumhouse and director Christopher Landon. The film will open in theaters on April 11.
Drop has been rated PG-13 by the MPA for strong violent content, suicide, some strong language, and sexual references.
First dates are nerve-wracking enough. Going on a first date while an unnamed, unseen troll pings you personal memes that escalate from annoying to homicidal? Blood-chilling.
Director Christopher Landon returns to the thriller genre with the playful, keep-you-guessing intensity he perfected in the Happy Death Day films with this of-the-moment whodunnit where everyone in the vicinity is a suspect… or victim. Drop is jointly produced by blockbuster genre houses Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes.

As far as modern horror goes, there are few (if any) names that rival Blumhouse. As the studio behind Jordan Peele's modern masterpiece "Get Out," "The Purge" franchise, one of M. Night Shyamalan's biggest movies ever in "Split," successful franchise revivals such as the "Halloween" trilogy, and monster adaptations like "Five Nights at Freddy's," the house that Jason Blum built has become a go-to name for horror fans. Now the studio is seeking to deliver another original hit in the form of "The Woman in the Yard."
As Blumhouse grew in recent years, they hit a bit of a cold streak, with recent films such as "The Exorcist: Believer," "Imaginary," "Afraid," and others failing to deliver critically and commercially. The studio's latest effort, which hails from director Jaume Collet-Serra, aims to change that narrative by bringing back that old-school Blumhouse vibe. I was fortunate enough to visit the...

Elsbeth is truly saving the best for last as, after a season filled to the gills with incredible guest talent, the finale has what it takes to blow audiences’ socks off. Today, the lineup has been announced for the final episode of Season 2, and it’s quite a doozy. Included in the listing are Stephen Moyer (True Blood), Retta (Parks and Recreation), Gina Gershon (Bound), Elizabeth Lail (Five Nights at Freddy’s), Arian Moayed (You Hurt My Feelings), Alyssa Milano (Charmed), André De Shields (The Wiz), Ethan Slater (Wicked) and Mary-Louise Parker (Weeds). For those following along, yes, you have seen all these characters before, meaning Carrie Preston’s titular attorney already has a background relationship with each of them.

Movies like Uncharted, Five Nights at Freddy’s, and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 have proven that video game adaptations are quite popular nowadays. Naturally, many video game developers are using this opportunity to generate more revenue out of their valuable IPs. One such developer is Blizzard Entertainment, as the studio is interested in venturing into filmmaking once again.
Blizzard is hoping to expand its IPs in a different medium (Image via Blizzard Entertainment)
Almost every developer has acknowledged the idea of making a film based on their beloved IP, except one: Rockstar Games. The Grand Theft Auto franchise has so much potential, but it seems like Take-Two Interactive will never create a movie based on the franchise. However, in the past, the CEO of Take-Two Interactive created some hype by revealing the only demand that must be fulfilled if players want to see a Grand Theft Auto movie.

Despite A Minecraft Movie getting off on the wrong foot with a widely mocked teaser trailer, it appears the brand name of the game alone will carry it to an impressive opening weekend, which could take the pressure off Superman. Minecraft is the best-selling video game of all time, and since it debuted in 2011, it has been a cultural phenomenon. Attempts at a Minecraft film can be traced back to 2014, and after over a decade in development, A Minecraft Movie is set to open in theaters in April 2025. Despite featuring stars like Jack Black and Jason Momoa, the Minecraft property is the main attraction and appears to be gaining much interest among younger moviegoers.

The nine episode first season of the Marvel series Daredevil: Born Again is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ on March 4, 2025 – and season 2 of the show was scheduled to begin filming today, February 28th! With cameras, presumably, now rolling, Deadline has broken the news that the new batch of episodes brings Matthew Lillard (Five Nights at Freddy’s) into the cast. Details on the character Lillard will be playing are, of course, being kept under wraps.
This is a busy time for Lillard, as he just completed work on the sequel to Five Nights at Freddy‘s and also has a role in the currently-filming Scream 7, playing a character that was killed off in the first Scream way back in 1996.
Although the initial plan was to rework some elements and make Daredevil: Born Again stand separate from the Netflix Daredevil series (despite sharing some cast members), the show underwent a creative...

‘Elevated horror’ gets a bad reputation – but the era is easier to identify now it’s definitively ended with such films as The Monkey.

The Monkey, which arrived in UK cinemas last week, shares a name and a simian mascot with the Stephen King source text. It even shares a certain amount of the author’s nihilistic wink-wink sense of humour. But where even King’s goofiest tales usually possess some amount of sinister melodrama, Perkins mines the “toy monkey that makes random people explode in gnarly ways” premise for damn-near every laugh it’s worth.

Matthew Lillard is an iconic name in the horror genre, mostly for his performance as Stu Macher in Scream, but he's also gaining recent recognition as William Afton in Five Nights at Freddy’s. However, one of his lesser-known appearances comes in Thirteen Ghosts, a movie that was criticized on its initial release but has garnered appreciation over the years. The movie is a remake of a classic William Castle feature of the same name and tells the story of a ghost hunter who collects troubled spirits. Lillard is obviously the standout, injecting his signature humor and magnetism into the role. Still, Thirteen Ghosts has impressive character design and practical effects that allow it to extend beyond a 2000s cliché horror flick.

Netflix’s Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria swears she is open to doing more backend deals with filmmakers, talent, and producers, but she says almost none of them really want one, despite some public lobbying.
On his “The Town” podcast, Puck founder Matt Belloni grilled Bajaria on a large variety of topics: the scandal plaguing the “Emilia Pérez” Oscar push, Greta Gerwig’s special “Narnia” deal, and the usual chatter about sports programming and data transparency. One standout segment for us was a relatively brief conversation about backend deals, in which talent — an actor, a director, or a producer — reaps the financial rewards of a hit film or show through a percentage of the profits. The Netflix model of almost always skipping any meaningful theatrical release for films definitely complicates matters, and for series, some newly shared (but still kind of limited) viewership statistics open the back door a bit — but not completely.

Before the Jumanji franchise was revived with more modern sequels starring Dwayne Johnson, a loose sci-fi spinoff film was released in 2005. Two decades later, one of its stars is looking back on the movie and its "stacked" cast.
Per Cinema Blend, Zathura: A Space Adventure was addressed by Twilight and Underwater star Kristen Stewart, who took on one of her earliest roles by playing the Lisa character. The film also stars Josh Hutcherson, who'd go on to find big success in other franchises like The Hunger Games and Five Nights at Freddy's. Thinking about Hutcherson and her other co-stars, Stewart is amused to think about the strength of Zathura's cast. She also commented on working with Jon Favreau, who directed the film.

With the release of the first game in 2014, Five Nights at Freddy'sdominated the gaming industry and has made a colossal impact on pop culture. Since the first game's release, fans have been desperately vying for a film adaptation. The development timeline was more tumultuous than anyone could've anticipated. Warner Bros. initially secured the rights to the game and was set to make the film, but the rights eventually moved to horror staple Blumhouse Productions. Director Chris Columbus was also attached to direct the project, but left in 2021, leading the way for indie director Emma Tammi to step into the role.

While the strike-impacted 2024 release slate resulted in fewer movies overall, 2025 promises to be something of a return to normal with a bevy of highly anticipated films coming to both theaters and streaming. From two new Marvel movies to James Gunn’s DC reboot of “Superman” to a “Jurassic” reboot to live-action remakes of animated classics galore, there’s plenty of familiar territory, but also noteworthy original films as well – Ryan Coogler’s vampire film “Sinners,” Steven Soderbergh’s ghost story “Presence” and a new Paul Thomas Anderson movie are all on tap, to name a few.
And that’s not to mention the films that don’t have release dates yet but are promised for 2025 – Netflix alone has the third “Knives Out” movie “Wake Up, Dead Man,” Guillermo del Toro’s “Frankenstein” and a new Noah Baumbach film.
Oh yeah, and there’s a new “Avatar” sequel coming in December.

After nearly three decades, Scream 7 is set to deliver one of the biggest twists in the franchise’s history — Matthew Lillard is returning as Stu Macher. The announcement, revealed by Deadline, has sparked speculation and excitement among horror fans, as the character was believed to have been definitively killed off in the 1996 original.
Lillard’s return marks a full-circle moment for the actor, whose role as the horror-obsessed, unhinged high schooler in Wes Craven’s Scream launched his career. While his character’s demise—via a television dropped on his head—seemed final, the Scream series has never shied away from bending its own rules. Whether through flashbacks, retcons, or unexpected narrative twists, the franchise has found ways to bring back past characters in surprising ways. The question remains: How is Stu still alive? Fans have speculated for years that he could have survived, perhaps resurfacing as a mastermind behind Ghostface killings all along.

Matthew Lillard, who played Stuart ‘Stu’ Macher in the first 1996 Scream movie, is returning to the franchise for Spyglass/Paramount’s Scream 7.
How is that possible? We will see. Does Stu have a twin? Doesn’t look like it from Lillard’s Instagram post. Last we saw the horror-movie obsessed Stu, he was chasing Neve Campbell’s Sidney down 29 years ago, attempting to kill her. However, she had the upper hand, dropping a TV on his head. Also, you’ll remember that Billy and Stu began stabbing each other to make themselves look like the victims — just moments before Sidney kicked their ass.
Scream launched Lillard’s career out of a cannon with the actor continuing on to star in the Scooby-Doo live-action franchise, She’s All That, The Descendants and even a key role in the Blumhouse/Universal hit Five Nights at Freddy’s.

The upcoming sequel to the hit horror film Five Nights at Freddy's has received an exciting update in the form of several new first-look images. The first film, which had a simultaneous premiere in both theaters and streaming on Peacock, was a financial hit, grossing $300 million worldwide against a $20 million budget. This success is attributed to the game series of the same name the movie is based on. Spanning 11 main-line games, several spinoff games, and various tie-in media like books and comics, Five Nights at Freddy's (Fnaf) was already a viral sensation long before the film adaptation came to fruition. Now, this first look at the sequel will no doubt be a treat for fans familiar with the games and casual audiences who have watched the first film.

Matthew Lillard’s name will forever be synonymous with horror thanks to his 1996 appearance in what many would consider to be the greatest slasher flick of all time — Wes Craven’s Scream. Despite his character, Stu Macher, only appearing in the first movie in the six-going-on-seven film series, Lillard continues to bask in his Scream fame at fan conventions and probably just in his daily life. More recently, he dipped into another growing horror franchise with his performance in Emma Tammi’s Five Nights at Freddy’s, but in between then and now, the Scooby-Doo actor was part of a terribly good cult classic genre film. Beginning on February 1, you can see Lillard in action, as Thirteen Ghosts will arrive on Tubi — meaning interested parties can stream it totally free of charge.

Dating can be a chore — but for Meghann Fahy’s single-mother character in the upcoming Blumhouse thriller “Drop,” it can also quickly turn into a deadly game of iPhone cat and mouse.
Directed and co-written (with Jillian Jacobs) by Christopher Landon (“Happy Death Day”), the movie stars Fahy as a woman on a chic first date who is just starting to hit it off with the handsome man across the table from her when her phone begins buzzing with notifications. Someone in the restaurant is Airdropping messages to her… messages that become increasingly personal and threatening when they include photos of her son. The rules to saving her boy are simple: She can’t tell anyone what’s going on… and she has to kill her date.
If anyone can accomplish a lot with just facial expressions, though, it might be Fahy, who scored an Emmy nomination for her work...

Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, Happy Death Day, Freaky—Christopher Landon directed some of my absolute favorite films of the 2010s, so I'm always excited to see what he's cooking up next behind the camera, and his latest movie, Drop (written by Jillian Jacobs & Chris Roach), is certainly no exception. Ahead of its April 11th theatrical release, the official trailer for Drop promises that "first dates can be a nightmare," especially when technology-fueled blackmail is involved.
From blockbuster producers Michael Bay and Jason Blum and acclaimed horror director Christopher Landon comes a blood-chilling, original fast paced thriller Drop.
Drop stars Emmy nominee Meghann Fahy along with Brandon Sklenar, Violett Beane Jacob Robinson and Ed Weeks. The film is written by Jillian Jacobs & Chris Roach.

Universal Pictures has revealed the new trailer for Drop, the upcoming thriller from Blumhouse and director Christopher Landon.

There’s good news at the MLK weekend box office for films like Sony’s new buddy comedy “One of Them Days” as well as more milestones for Christmas holdovers “Mufasa” and “Sonic the Hedgehog 3,” but this holiday period is proving to be a weak one for theaters.
Overall grosses for the 4-day period are expected to fall to $96-100 million, an 18% drop from last year. “Mufasa” is taking No. 1 with an estimated 4-day total of $15.5 million in its fifth weekend, which is the lowest No. 1 total seen on an MLK weekend since the unadjusted $14 million 4-day holdover total of the Brad Pitt/Anthony Hopkins western “Legends of the Fall” way back in 1995, according to Box Office Mojo.
For Disney, this $15.5 million total for “Mufasa” is just fine, as it pushes the film’s domestic total past $200 million while its global total reaches $588 million. Though a world away from...

The most recent attempt by Blumhouse Productions to jumpstart a Universal Pictures horror franchise – Wolf Man – breaks no new ground for the genre and instead resorts to often repulsive effects to convey horror rather than creating it organically.
Early in the film, Blake (Christopher Abbott) inherits a rural Oregon farm when his father mysteriously vanishes and is declared dead by authorities. As the news comes on the heels of continuing troubles within Blake’s marriage to Charlotte (Julia Garner), the couple decides that taking a break from the city to settle the state of Blake’s father as a sort of vacation, along with their daughter, Ginger (Matilda Firth), might be just the thing to get them back on track again. However, after they arrive in Oregon and cross paths with something in the woods before arriving at the father’s farmhouse, Blake begins acting peculiarly causing Charlotte and Ginger...

Universal Studios is revisiting the iconic werewolf with Wolf Man, directed by Leigh Whannell and produced by Bea Sequeira, who also worked with Whannell on 2020's The Invisible Man reboot. The Wolf Man remake follows an ill-fated family on a trip back to their ancestral home deep in the woods -- which creates a threat growing from within when the father, Blake, is clawed by a feral wolf-like creature. But it's not the first big movie Sequeira has been a part of.
Her credits include The Amazing Spider-Man and Amazing Spider-Man 2, before focusing more on horror projects with the hit production company Blumhouse. In this interview with Cbr, Sequeira discusses her work at Blumhouse, specifically her collaborations with director Leigh Whannell, She also reflects on updating Wolf Man's story and setting for a 2025 audience, and reveals her choice for the next Universal Monsters adaptation.
Cbr: The Wolf Man is a film that's captivated generations.

The next mainline title for the beloved horror series is Five Nights at Freddy’s: Secret of the Mimic. This new game is a sequel to Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach and its Dlc, Ruin, by Steel Wool Studios. So far, details on Secret of the Mimic have been sparse, but a short demo at select conventions in 2024 and a teaser trailer have revealed key aspects of what fans can expect from the sequel when it releases in 2025.
As per the title, Secret of the Mimic will explore the villain last seen in Ruin, the Mimic, and potentially explain how the Fazbear Entertainment brand evolved into such a successful business by showing its origins in the 1970s. Secret of the Mimic will also introduce a brand new enemy animatronic, a jack-in-the-box named Jackie, whose clown styling and accompanying music create striking parallels to past villains in the Five Nights at Freddy’s series.

Wolf Man is a reboot of the classic Universal Monsters movie The Wolfman. This version from Blumhouse and visionary director Leigh Whannell follows a man who inherits his father's home when he is presumed dead. After an attack by a wild animal, he starts to act strangely, causing his family to be caught between the animal outside, and the monster he is becoming.
Wolf Man stars Christopher Abbott in the titular role, with Julia Garner playing his wife. Producer Beatriz Sequeira is no stranger to horror films. She worked alongside Leigh Whannell on The Invisible Man, and she also produced 2024's Speak No Evil and Blumhouse's Five Nights at Freddy's. Wolf Man comes to theaters on January 17.

The video game adaptation Five Nights at Freddy’s (read our review Here) quickly became Blumhouse Productions’ highest-grossing movie when it reached theatres and the Peacock streaming service back in October, surpassing the likes of Split, The Invisible Man, The Black Phone, M3GAN, the recent Halloween sequel trilogy, and the Paranormal Activity, Insidious, and The Purge franchises with its haul of $295 million. So, of course, there’s a sequel coming our way, aiming for a December 5, 2025 theatrical release – and fans have managed to take pictures of some of the filming locations in Louisiana!

Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 will be the second installment in the Five Nights at Freddy’s film franchise, and the rich history of the games provides more than enough material for Blumhouse to move forward with a sequel. The 2023 movie Five Nights at Freddy’s is the live-action adaptation of the popular video game series from developer Scott Cawthorn. Both the games and movie focus on Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria, and the haunted, violent animatronic mascots that dwell within.
Riffing on the animatronic animals seen in restaurants like Chuck E. Cheese, the Five Nights at Freddy’s formula proved incredibly easy to adapt for movie audiences, helped by a cast that includes Matthew Lillard (Scream) and Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games). While the ending of the first movie didn’t explicitly set up a sequel, the premise alone feels more than enough to carry on into Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 and beyond.

Despite being pushed to a December 2025 release, things appear to be slowly picking up for Blumhouse’s Five Nights at Freddy’s 2. Spotted by Eurogamer, several fan accounts on X have snapped images of the sign for the infamous pizzeria, as well as merchandise stands for a scene in the film.
The X account Fnaf Movie Updates recently posted images of the pizzeria, which appears to be a little worse for wear, given the brush that’s surrounding the building.

Plans for the Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise may be bigger than we thought. While we’re not even a year out from the release of the sequel, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, it looks like Blumhouse and Universal Pictures already have a third film lined up.
According to @Katsterlingfan on Twitter (see below), sources have said that filming for Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 could begin just six months after the sequel’s release, aiming for a 2027 launch, possibly toward the end of the year. However, fans are advised to take this with a grain of salt.

New photos for Five Nights at Freddy's 2 showed Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria in shambles, hinting there would be a significant time jump in the sequel. User @katsterlingfan shared photos on X, revealing at least one location will remain faithful to the games; these mostly took place inside the haunted pizzeria/arcade. Images of Bonnie, Chica, Mangle, and Freddy Fazbear are also outlined above the main door, teasing Mangle would be more prominent in the film. One BTS photo showed Mike Schmidt (played by Josh Hutcherson) standing outside the building. Plot details are scarce, but Fnaf 2 is expected to pick up after the events of the first movie. This claim, included in Universal’s thorough and impressive list of box office achievements for 2024, is technically true: “Domestically ‘Wicked‘ is now … the highest-grossing Broadway adaptation of all-time at the domestic office ahead of ‘Grease’ ($188.62M).”
Also technically true is that “The Grinch” is bigger than “Gone with the Wind,” “Sing” is bigger than “Jaws,” and “Five Nights at Freddy’s” is bigger than “The Godfather.” Also, the 1977 first “Star Wars” is only the third biggest success of that franchise.
Presenting grosses without adjusting skews the real picture of how they compare. It is a prime case of film history erasure, an all-too common occurrence these days. The somewhat (but not impossible in most cases) effort to sort out the true success of films through history starts with adjusting box office takes to current ticket prices. Normally, that is fairly simple, since we know the costs by year and can do the math.

Video game movies and TV shows have come a long way, with many exciting projects on the horizon promising to adapt many popular franchises. For a long time, Hollywood-made adaptations of video games were deemed cursed, with major flops like 1993's Super Mario Bros. or underwhelming franchises like the Resident Evil series proving as much. But in recent years, plenty of projects have proven the video game curse is broken, with record-breaking animated movies and award-winning live-action TV shows being adapted from video games.
There are a multitude of upcoming video game movies and TV shows that promise exciting adaptations of existing games, in many cases for the very first time. While classic video games most general audiences are familiar with, like Mario and Sonic, have been the target of many adaptations, the success of projects like Five Nights at Freddy's or The Last of Us prove that producers are...

Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu is already the highest-grossing film of his career, and has just broken plenty more records besides. More below…
Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu claimed the top spot at the UK box office this week, beating out Mufasa: The Lion King and Sonic The Hedgehog 3 with £5,246,910 across its five-day opening weekend. In an even more family-unfriendly move, we’re pretty confidently saying that makes it the first UK number one to feature a full-frontal shot of an undead penis. That’s an accolade Eggers and co can really be proud of.
But that’s not the only record broken by the historical auteur’s 19th-century passion project. According to Deadline, the film out-grossed Eggers’ The Northman's entire opening weekend after its first day on release, and gives Universal the biggest opening for a horror film in the UK since its own Five Nights At Freddy’s in 2023.

For many years, the high-water marks for movies based on video games were Paul W.S. Anderson's 1995 fight film "Mortal Kombat" and his 2002 zombie flick "Resident Evil." One can see what a sorry state we were in if those two mediocre films were the high-water marks of anything. Adapting video games to the big screen has long been tricky for Hollywood. These films are often lambasted as terrible and have typically bombed ("Kombat" and "Resident" notwithstanding). Alternatively, Rocky Morton and Annabel Jankel's 1993 adaptation of "Super Mario Bros." is deeply beloved by a passionate cult of weirdos who love its zany ideas (a cult I belong to), but most folks didn't like how far the film strayed from Shigeru Miyamoto's Nintendo property.

In perhaps a surprise twist that no one saw coming, video game adaptations are not complete failures anymore. Yes, we'll always have our Netflix's Resident Evil or Paramount+ Halo, but there have also been some successes.
In preparation for the new year, we'll be talking about several video game films and television shows that we are most excited about. Which adaptations made our list?
A Minecraft Movie
Everyone seems mixed about next year's theatrical release of A Minecraft Movie. So much so that it seems the trailer has been better received than when the teaser dropped.
Almost everyone has heard of Minecraft but in case you haven't, the sandbox game, released in 2011, enabled players to create their own world stylized in 8-bit-like art. Over the years the game drew fans of practically all ages, spreading out into the merchandising world of toys and clothing.
