This would have been a disaster were it not for Gleeson, who somehow manages to work in his take on the naive nerd looking for true love, who falls for an older married woman (Applegate), only using him for sex to pay back her husband (Hayden Church) for what she perceives is his infidelity.
Gleeson's very good performance allows the audience to bear through a sophomoric script.
Kudos to Thomas Hayden Church whose impeccable timing adds needed snap to the dialogue.
Editng is notable as well.
Gleeson is an impressive actor, and as he (hopefully) stretches himself into more complex roles, will no doubt discover higher ground upon which he can unfold his talent.
I'm rating Crash Pad a 5 (avoiding a 1 only because of Gleeson, Church and overall snappy editing).
The rest of the cast is wasted on this dog of a a script and 5 is generous.
2017 is going down as one of the worst years for movie releases unless the holiday season comes up big to redeem it.

Didn't expect that.
It seems, some people have lost their ability to judge class.
"Crash Pad" is a true gem amongst the numerous romantic comedies that try but ultimately fail to present some real heart and wit.
What expecially stands out with this movie is the witty, polished dialogues.
I haven't heard people talk like this in a long time - it reminds me of the great screwball comedies of the past.
Most movies of today forget that there is a duty to fulfill: To produce memorable characters and quotable, unique dialogue. "Crash Pad" succeeds massively.
I haven't had so much fun in a long time, and on top there's real heart in it.
Don't listen to the bad reviews. You won't regret watching this.

So now i'm in that awkward place of my review where i've already said everything in the title. But. All the thespians involved played their roles to the hilt, but Gleeson was so good he took a little time to get used to. Every time he was on screen in the first bit was perfect, but he takes a hot minute to start liking, just like a real person might.
The script was actually strange in that there were a few brief moments throughout when it was a little clunky, surrounding incredibly smooth portions. There were parts that were downright impressive for a goofy comedy, but then it would wobble a little bit.
Still. Highly enjoyable for a lighthearted romp. Enjoy.

On the surface, Crash Pad is the typical men are like this/women are like that/nothing matters just get laid comedy, but there's more to it than what meets the eye at first glance.
The acting is frankly brilliant. Domhnall Gleeson's comedic genius really shines through; I can't wait to see more of him in this genre. His chemistry with Haden Church is hilarious, and Christina Applegate's emotional performance makes you feel for her cardboard-character.
The script tries too hard at times, but the one-liners are very memorable, and the jokes that land land hard. I loved how over-the-top and self-aware it was; the best comedies are always comedies of comedies.
I'm not sure who the target audience was. Fans of romcoms might find it offensive; romcom haters might find it too silly and clichéd; but if you don't have expectations and let this movie surprise you, you'll have a fun time.

Charming and full of heart with a great cast and a good script.
Won't get the credit it deserves.

- TriviaWriter Jeremy Catalino originally conceived of the story for Mon coup d'un soir, mon ex et moi (2017) after meeting a married woman online and having a weekend-long affair with her. He wondered what would happen if the woman's husband found out about the affair and came after him. As of the film's release, Catalino and the woman both live in Portland, OR and remain friends.
- GoofsWhen Stensland watches the TV show, "Dawson's Creek," which the character claims was recorded onto VHS from its original air-date, the theme song is inaccurate. It's not the original theme song (Paula Cole's "I Don't Want to Wait"), but rather, it's Jann Arden's "Run Like Mad;" an alternative theme song used for the DVD and Netflix releases to avoid paying expensive royalties to Paula Cole.
