Oscar-nominated Thomas Haden Church has joined the Season 2 cast of Shane Gillis’ Netflix comedy series Tires.

Co-created, written and executive produced by Gillis, Tires follows Will (Steven Gerben), the nervous and unqualified heir to an auto repair chain, attempts to turn his father’s business around despite constant torture from his cousin and now employee, Shane (Gillis).

In Season 2, after the unexpected success of their big marketing idea, Will and Shane rush to grow personally and professionally without fully realizing the cost of doing business.

Church will play Phil, Shane’s wealthy but immature father. A grown-up version of Shane, Phil enjoys owning various businesses in Florida where he resides, throwing back margaritas and flirting with waitresses.

In addition to Gillis and Gerben, cast also includes Chris O’Connor, Kilah Fox and Stavros Halkias.

Ahead of its series premiere in May, Tires was renewed for a second season, which is slated to debut next year.

We might be entering the dog days of summer but Hulu isn’t slowing down. The streamer’s list of new releases for August 2023 is a pretty impressive collection of content.

The biggest Hulu original this month is season 3 of true crime comedy Only Murders in the Building on Aug. 8. This time around Meryl Streep and Paul Rudd are joining the already-stacked cast that features Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez. Oscar nominee Thomas Haden Church is set as a lead alongside Anthony Mackie and Stephanie Beatriz in Twisted Metal, Peacock’s comedic half-hour live-action adaptation of the popular video game.

Based on the classic PlayStation game series, Twisted Metal is a high-octane action comedy, based on an original take by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick about a motor-mouthed outsider offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With the help of a trigger-happy car thief, he’ll face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck.

Church will play Agent Stone, a cold and unyielding post-apocalyptic highway patrolman who rules the roads with a silver tongue and a twisted iron fist, prosecuting even the smallest crimes with the harshest of judgements.

Dead To Me actress Christina Applegate has revealed to her Twitter followers that she has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. The Emmy winner, who has appeared in many movies and TV shows since the 1980s made the announcement via a tweet earlier today, revealing that she was diagnosed with the potentially crippling disease a few months ago, and followed up with a second post which ended with a request for privacy.

Thomas Haden Church is set as the lead and will executive produce The Texanist, a multi-camera comedy inspired by David Courtney’s Texas Monthly column in development at Fox. Church, who lives on his ranch in the Lone Star state, will have plenty of personal experience to draw on for the role.

Written by Cheers alum Rob Long, The Texanist centers on Dave, played by Church, an opinionated Austin-area radio show host who calls ‘em like he sees ‘em, dispensing advice to Texas natives and newcomers alike on what he knows to be the true Texas Way of life. But the Texas Way is changing, and now Dave’s job is becoming much more complicated. A great red-band trailer has been released for a new comedy called Crash Pad. The film has a fantastic cast that includes Domhnall Gleeson, Christina Applegate, and Thomas Haden Church. This actually looks like it could be a damn funny flick. Here's the synopsis:

A hopeless romantic, who thinks he's found true love with an older woman, learns that she's married and the fling is merely an instrument of revenge against her neglectful husband. He threatens to blackmail her by telling her husband, but his plan backfires when the husband decides the best way to get back at his wife is to move in and adopt the romantic's slacker lifestyle.

There are a few cheeseball moments in the trailer, but I really do love this cast and hope that this will end...

Hollywood is filled with great scripts that are forever stuck in development hell, struggling to find the right of talent and people willing to take a risk to make it happen. And then there are movies like “Crash Pad,” which somehow get made without any problems, even though they feel like a low-grade rehash of about a half dozen movies you’ve seen before. Oh wait, maybe that’s exactly why they get made.

Knate Lee, known for producing the Johnny Knoxville-led “Jackass 3D” and “Bad Grandpa,” has stepped behind the camera to direct his first feature film “Cardboard Boxer,” starring Thomas Haden Church.

The drama – which appears to have skipped the festival circuit – centers on Willie (Church), a homeless man who is paid by two rich teens to fight other men for cash and then struggles to escape the dark world he’s gotten himself into. With the help of a new pen-pal and a trusting new friend (Terrence Howard), he hopes to turn his life around.

Since leaving Tvd, the Canadian actress has finished the comedy Crash Pad with Domhnall Gleeson, Christina Applegate, and Oscar nominee Thomas Haden Church, and xXx: The Return Of Xander Cage, the latest xXx installment with Vin Diesel, Toni Collette, and Samuel L. Jackson as well as appearing in last year’s horror-comedy gem The Final Girls.

Based on the 1990 hit starring Kiefer Sutherland, Kevin Bacon, Julia Roberts, William Baldwin, and Oliver Platt, the remake has snagged Denmark’s Niels Arden Oplev (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo) to direct.
