Driftwood

Painfully slow, might have made a passable 5-10 minute short.

This is a perfect example of why I don't believe 10 star reviews from anyone who signed on to only to review a film. Or why I don't go to film festivals anymore. This supposedly won 3 awards at 3 different festivals? Please.

Unless you actually like watching ppl sitting and staring or or watch them quietly walking, or watching a car slowly approach from a distance then you'll agree that most of the footage was a total waste.

There was no dialogue or actual indications that this was a scifi, but that's OK.

The little bits of story that did occur did not impart any great insights or surprises, just a little bit of mild situational weirdness. The ending was predictable, without any originality or any semblance of a punch line.

Don't waste your time if you don't have a good fast forward setting.

5 minute short drug into a painfully long film

A film that goes no where, is so simple a 2nd grader could have written it, and so boring my cat turned off the TV half way through. The only person who could like this film is the writer and director, someone who's films I will avoid like the Corona Virus.

Watch the grass grow. you'll have more fun!

Oh my gosh, I have never watched a more bizarre and boring movie in my life, how it got even 1 star by anyone is beyond me. What was the point, what was the middle and what was the end of the movie about==got me! Save yourself and pick another (any other) movie but this one.

Fantastic Film

Driftwood is an engaging and appealingly eerie film. Deftly manipulating mythopoeic conceits, whereby an older man takes in a young woman mysteriously washed ashore, the film creates a sort of fairy tale atmosphere. And as in the best fairy tales, the idyllic becomes increasingly sinister as the relationship between savior and saved becomes one of captor and captive. Unburdened by dialogue that might break the spell, the film manages to sustain tension - a testament to the captivating performances under the steady direction of Paul Taylor. Cerebral but totally accessible, it stays in your mind long after you've finished watching it. You can see why it won the Grand Jury Prize for Best Narrative at the Slamdance Film Festival.
