    For the same reason we don't learn anything about Fagin's backstory -- because the writers wanted to go only so far back in time. In addition, such additions would not further the plots they had in mind.



    The series is inspired by plotlines from several of Charles Dickens' novels, featuring well-known characters whose lives intertwine to form a kind of prequel to the established stories.



    Dickensian's main storylines are drawn from Oliver Twist, Great Expectations, Bleak House and A Christmas Carol. However, many secondary characters and references from Dickens' other works are also featured.



    No. The murder of Ebenezer Scrooge's business partner occurs during the first episode and acts as a catalyst for a major storyline. The mysterious death is investigated by Inspector Bucket of the Detective (from Bleak House) and involves a number of suspects from different novels, each of whom has a motive.
