Fun Mechanics, Somewhat Repetitive.

A fine addition to the castlevania series. You play as two characters simultaneously and can switch between the two. Lotsa cool items to use and spells to utilize. Some areas in the game don't have much variety. For example we have two circus areas and two desert areas, and two town areas. It would be better to make different painted worlds rather than copy and paste them. The boss fights are cool but also pretty easy if you use thousand blades. It is possible to be overpowered for most of these fights. Also the sidequests are a pain in the butt to solve and they are new to the series. Imo, Dawn of Sorrow is better.

Whip Boy Or Mage Girl, Why Not Both?

Castlevania Portrait of ruin Is an game where you jump on your partner head to get higher up, look at great arts and get real Deep into them, and slowly realize that magic is better than the whip.

Partner mechanic is amazingly fun. At any time you can switch out to the other characters and they feel really different to play. One is the traditional Castlevania playstyle we have done Many times before, But the other the Mage build is fun and refreshing way to play Castlevania.

The painting mechanic is great. We get to go to places We don't usually go to in the Castlevania series, and of course the music in the portraits are bangers. The castle is just a pleasure to explore.

Music is great. It high energy and the guitar in the main theme is awesome. The characters has some personality to them this time, and don't feel boring. Maybe they are bit too generic anime, but their struggle and personality is at least distinct.

The pixel art looks great and has a lot of personality and blood. And sidequest mechanic is well done, even if it is amazingly cryptic.

This is absolutely in my top 3 Castlevania games now, would recommend.
