This "pilot" was hastily created by Red Eagle Entertainment in order to prevent their rights to the Wheel of Time series reverting to the estate of its author, Robert Jordan. Jordan's widow maintains that this mini-movie was made without any consultation, and implied that legal action would be undertaken.
Director Seda James was tragically killed in a car accident days after he completed this project.

In the book The Eye of the World, the first book to this series, the name of "The Dark One" should never be spoken. However in the prologue Elan Morin speaks his name and states that it isn't dangerous for him to speak it.
