Candy Crush Saga

3/10

Pretty shallow gameplay for such a popular franchise.

Candy Crush is basically this: line-up stuff to clear lines and make sure you don't run out of moves, otherwise it's game over. And it's just that. Do it again, and again, and again, and again. It gets... so... so... BORING after sitting down trying to actually play it through. This game is good for pass time on the train or a bus, but by no stretch of the imagination does Candy Crush qualify as a 'good video game'. It's a game of luck: not logic, just how many taps you can make to pass the level.

Oh, and this game is freemium. A definite no no for hardcore gamers. I don't identify as 'hardcore gamer' necessarily, but I do love my dungeon-crawling in Zelda, my platforming in Super Mario, my James-Bond-ing in Goldeneye 007, my secret agent adventuring in Perfect Dark and Metal Gear Solid, but never will I consider redundant tapping in the same league as 'video games'. Candy Crush isn't even a real video game. It's a finger luck-based tapper.

Pretty colours + redundant gameplay = pretty redundant.

My first video game review!

I never actually noticed this on my computer or at least tried playing it. I can't believe the rating is so low! Well, this is a website for movies (and TV) and not video games. I ended up playing the Soda version and I absolutely loved it! It's a great little time waster. I just love how beautiful everything looks. You just line things up over and over. I don't even know how you lose. Well for me, it changes on every level. You have to either find gummy bears or get a bear past a certain part.

The voice was nice too. For a game so simple, it was very playable! They even gave you hints for what you could do next. Maybe it was too easy this way. Then again, it wasn't quite the same version I was playing, I believe. Whatever version, this was fun! It's always great when a game plays itself like this. I have played a lot of these matching games on Newgrounds. Wait, was this a ripoff? Oh, it's just a common genre. Wherever you can get it, try it out! ****
