Everyone has to start somewhere, just ask Alison Brie. During the Thursday, Jan. 21 episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the Happiest Season star recalled the audition for her first on-screen role, Hannah Montana. "What a face," the actress said, as she looked at a picture of herself on the hit show. "You know, I was very excited. But the thing I remember most is that I decided to go in for my audition with, like, a very broad Long Island accent. Not requested!" Host Jimmy Fallon asked her," What was her role?" which was simply a "kooky hairdresser that it hired by the brother's nemesis." The actress—who appeared on the Disney Channel show in...

Brendan Fraser will star in The Whale, a new Darren Aronofsky film based on the Samuel D. Hunter play of the same name, according to Deadline. The play is set in the “Mormon Country” of Idaho and is about a 600-pound gay man who can’t leave his apartment and is estranged from his teenage daughter. It’s a fiercely funny and moving (sometimes surreal) story that may seem a bit odd for either Aronofsky (whose last movie was the extremely strange thriller Mother, starring Jennifer Lawrence) or Fraser, who...

Darren Aronofsky is teaming up with A24 for his next movie The Whale, an adaptation of the Samuel D. Hunter play of the same name, with Brendan Fraser attached to star. Wondering what filmmaker Darren Aronofsky is up to? We’ve been thinking the same. Well, he’s got a new project called “The Whale,” being set up at A24 and starring Brendan Fraser. “The Whale” is based on the critically- acclaimed 2012 play of the same name by Samuel D. Hunter and tells the story of a 600lbs recluse and father trying to reconnect with his estranged teenage daughter, who is something of a wild and sharped-tongue hellion.

Darren Aronofsky will direct Brendan Fraser in “The Whale,” an adaptation of Samuel D. Hunter’s play about a morbidly obese recluse.
A24 has global rights to the film. “The Whale” was critically acclaimed when it debuted Off-Broadway in 2012, winning both the Drama Desk Award and the Lucille Lortel Award for outstanding play.
It’s the story of a 600-pound middle-aged man named Charlie and his attempts to reconnect with his 17-year-old daughter. The two became estranged after Charlie abandoned his family for his gay lover, who later died. Charlie then turned to compulsive eating out of grief.
Aronofsky’s Protozoa Pictures will also produce the film. The director scored raves and a strong following with the likes of “Requiem for a Dream” and “Black Swan.” However, his most recent effort, “Mother!,” was divisive and a commercial bomb when it premiered in 2017, grossing $44.5 million on a $30 million budget and suffering...

Three-plus years since mother!, by your count either his greatest achievement or proof it’s time to find a new career, Darren Aronofsky’s supposedly landed new feature: Discussing Film report he’ll adapt Samuel D. Hunter’s play The Whale for A24. American Empirical Pictures, whose name appears before every Wes Anderson feature, are producing.
In a description that sounds wholly sympatico with his oeuvre of obsession, addiction, self-destruction, whatever else Wikipedia cites in their opening paragraph, Hunter’s play is descibed like so (via Playwrights Horizons):
On the outskirts of Mormon Country, Idaho, a six hundred pound recluse hides away in his apartment eating himself to death. Desperate to reconnect with his long-estranged daughter, he reaches out to her, only to find a viciously sharp-tongued and wildly unhappy teen.
Unfathomably bleak, sure, though same description suggests a “big-hearted and fiercely funny” tale of redemption and unexpected grace.

Ever since the ’50s, when the motion-picture industry felt existentially threatened by the rise of television (much as forces within it today feel existentially threatened by the rise of streaming), the movies have found ways to entice people into theaters with added benefits. 3D was the original P.T. Nearly two years since her standup comedy special “Nanette” took Netflix by storm, Hannah Gadsby’s followup special will finally hit the platform this coming May. The Aussie comedian’s “Hannah Gadsby: Douglas” will arrive on Netflix around the world on May 26. “It’s gonna be good. Unless you don’t like. Then it’s still gonna be good. But you’ll be wrong,” Gadsby says in the announcement video. Watch below.
The new special from the Emmy and Peabody award winner is named after her dog who, according to the Netflix synopsis, she took “for a walk across the planet, finishing up in Los Angeles, and recording her second stand-up special. You can expect your expectations to be set and met by Douglas: a tour from the dog park to the renaissance and back guided by one of comedy’s most sparkling and surprising minds.”

Wild Bunch TV-sold “Albatros,” Turner Latin America’s banner title “Amarres” and REInvent Studios’ globe-trotting “Peacemaker” will feature at a 54 series-strong Buyers Showcase, which launches today March 25 as a backbone of Series Mania’s online Digital Forum, Europe’s first big festival experiment in a virtual marketplace.
Also featuring a powerful Co-Pro Pitching lineup, packed by pedigree producers and creatives, the Digital Forum’s industry audience, such as the number of accredited distributors, still has to be confirmed.
Some high-profile titles are missing: Opener “The Luminaries,” for example, from Fremantle and Working Title, and HBO closer “Run.” That said, the Buyer’s Showcase looks set to include five of Series Mania’s original 10 main competition entries and 13 of its 15 International Panorama titles, the festival’s two main sections.
Looking to the long-haul, as it also address urgent financial fall-out from Covid-19, the industry needs festival selection more than ever.

We thought those crazy kids would stay together forever…said no one, ever.
Days after the awkward and highly rated episode of The Bachelor ended with star Peter Weber and Madison Prewett together despite the misgivings of his mother, each has announced on Instagram that the relationship is kaput and they have gone their separate ways. This came after a two-parter with plenty of twists and turns, including Peter choosing another contestant — Hannah Ann — and then selecting Madison after he was spurned. This after Madison spurned him because he had behaved in randy fashion in the “fantasy suite” with another contestant just before.

He was 29 years old.

An autopsy is pending, but the outlet claims that the cause of death is likely to be the result of a drug overdose.

Peter Weber's journey to find love officially resumed on The Bachelor Season 24 Episode 1, which aired on ABC Monday night.
The three-hour installment was filled with twists and turns, and one of them was already spoiled by ABC ahead of the premiere.
Oh yes, we're totally talking about the return of Hannah Brown, and how her undying connection with Peter threatened to overshadow the whole event.
If you watch The Bachelor online, you know Hannah arrived on the first night under the guise of giving Peter back his pilot wings.
While that seemed like something that could have happened off-screen, their connection burned bright. The producers are clearly aware the chemistry between the pair is off the freaking charts.
But that wasn't the only time Hannah popped up. Brown, who was filming Dancing with the Stars around the same time this episode was filmed, returned later in the premiere to...

Season 24 of “The Bachelor” kicked off last night to solid TV ratings for ABC.
The premiere episode won the night with a 1.8 rating among adults 18-49 and drew just over 6 million total viewers. That represents a significant 20% up tick from last season’s premiere, which came in at a 1.5 rating and 5.1 million viewers. Season 23 peaked with its finale at 2.4 and 8.2 million viewers, and it remains to be seen whether this season will top those heights. Pilot Pete Weber, who was recently a standout on the Hannah Brown season of “The Bachelorette,” is taking the dating show commands this season.
Elsewhere, “America’s Got Talent: Champions” drew the largest total viewership of the night with 8 million. The season 2 premiere drew a 1.3 rating for NBC, second behind “The Bachelor.” Later in the 10 p.m. time slot, “Manifest” premiered its second season down from last season at a 0.9 rating and 4.8 million viewers. It’s hard to believe it’s been three years since the untimely death of Carrie Fisher. Her passing came as a huge shock to Star Wars fans, with the actress in the middle of a late-career renaissance after the return of Leia Organa in the Sequel Trilogy and the publication of her hit book The Princess Diarist.
Complicating matters is that even though she’s been dead for three years, she’s had a long cinematic afterlife. Star Wars: The Last Jedi was released after she had died and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker brought her back using the miracles of modern editing. All of which means fans are eager to show their appreciation for her work and her personality. And below you can find just selection of responses from social media:
~I haven’t ever changed who I am. I’ve just gotten more accepting of it.

In December 2016, the world lost an icon in Carrie Fisher.
For Star Wars fans, she was the everlasting rebel – a princess who became a general and, in so doing, won the hearts of millions. Fisher will still appear in December’s Rise of Skywalker, thanks to CG wizardry and an unused piece of footage from The Force Awakens which just so happened to fit perfectly into the fabric of Episode IX. Or so says J.J. Abrams.
But today, on what would have been Carrie Fisher’s 63rd birthday, the Star Wars faithful have shared a series of touching tributes across the four corners of the Internet. Up first, Luke Skywalker himself: Mark Hamill, who posted a wonderful tweet dedicated to his late, great co-star.

In this often wordless drama, Charlotte Rampling brings an intelligent intensity to the role of a woman whose ageing husband has been jailed
Experiencing the formal, compositional chill of this film is like opening the door of a freezer cabinet and putting your head inside. The Italian film-maker Andrea Pallaoro directs and co-writes, and the star is Charlotte Rampling, whose performance won her the Volpi cup for best actress at the Venice film festival two years ago. It is the portrait of a lonely, unhappy life and the action is almost wordless, in a series of scenes often recorded by fixed camera positions that (for a while) withhold from the audience the full truth of what is happening. It is perhaps inspired by Chantal Akerman’s 1975 film Jeanne Dielman, 23 Quai Au Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles.
Hannah (Rampling) lives alone in a modest apartment in Paris, her face an enigmatic mask. In fact,...
