James Franco and Tommy Lee Jones have been cast in the action thriller The Razor's Edge, which begins production June 25. The film follows a mob hitman facing a perilous mission after his daughter's kidnapping. After being cancelled in 2018, Franco is trying to make a comeback with international films from France and Cuba and dark thrillers like The Razor's Edge and The Policeman.

Producer Corey Large announced today, May 13, that actors James Franco and Tommy Lee Jones have been cast in the action thriller The Razors Edge. Demian Lichtenstein (3000 Miles to Graceland) is directing the film from a screenplay co-written by Lichtenstein and Vance Duplechin. Red Sea Media will be handling international sales and will debut the film for buyers at the upcoming March du Film in Cannes. Production starts June 25 in Georgia.

Exclusive: We can tell you that James Franco and Oscar winner Tommy Lee Jones are leading the action thriller The Razor’s Edge from producer Corey Large and filmmaker Demian Lichtenstein (3000 Miles to Graceland).

Red Sea Media is handling international sales and will debut the film for buyers at the upcoming Marche du Film in Cannes. Cameras roll June 25 in Georgia.

Lichenstein is helming off a screenplay he wrote with Vance Duplechin. After a mob hitman vows to leave his deadly past behind, he faces an impossible choice when his daughter is kidnapped and the woman he loves becomes a target of the syndicate. He is forced to undertake one final, perilous mission while being pursued by an assassin even more lethal.

Pic is executive produced by Kirk Shaw. BondIt Media Capital is financing with Matthew Helderman, Luke Taylor and Jordan Nott also executive producing.

“I’m excited that we have signed the superbly talented actors James, Suki and Tommy Lee to bring The Razor’s Edge to the big screen. Franco was Oscar nominated for Best Actor for 127 Hours and is a 2x Golden Globe winner for James Dean, in which he played the title role, and took home Best Actor in Miniseries, and for The Disaster Artist which he won Best Actor Feature Comedy/Musical. He starred in Sony’s original Spider-Man trilogy from Sam Rami.

Oscar, Emmy, SAG, Golden Globe, and Palme d’Or winner Jones counts an Oscar and Golden Globe supporting actor win for The Fugitive and starred in Sony’s Men in Black trilogy. Jones won a Lead Actor Emmy for NBC’s The Executioners’ Song, and a Cannes Palme D’Or for Best Actor for Sony Pictures Classics’ The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada which he also directed. He also directed The Homesman which starred Hilary Swank.

Showtime’s Sheryl Crow music documentary Sheryl will premiere on the channel Friday, May 6, with a new trailer now available.

The documentary, directed by Amy Scott and charting what Showtime describes as Crow’s “hard-fought musical career battling sexism, depression, perfectionism, cancer, and the price of fame,” has its world premiere tonight at SXSW.

Sheryl is told through present-day interviews with Crow, behind-the-scenes verité on the road and in her studio, never before seen archival footage spanning 20 years of touring, and interviews with close colleagues Keith Richards, Laura Dern, Joe Walsh, Emmylou Harris, Brandi Carlile, and others.

Exclusive: Director Hicham Hajji (Redemption Day) is teaming up with Nkosinathi Maphumulo, aka DJ Black Coffee, on feature God Is A DJ, about the electronic music space.

Hajji describes the film as “a comedy set in the world of electronic music, with a mission to unite the world. With a minority driven cast, the film aims to bring this niche music to the world through the minorities that understand it.”

“Line of Duty” star Vicky McClure is co-producing a new drama with Left Bank Pictures, the makers of hit Netflix series “The Crown,” Variety has confirmed.

McClure, who played detective Kate Fleming on “Line of Duty” for nine years, will also star in the new show, which is tentatively titled “Redemption” and is scheduled to air on ITV.

The show will also reportedly be filmed in McClure’s home town of Nottingham, in England’s Midlands region.

Incidentally, McClure starred in a 2013 feature film called “Redemption” alongside Jason Statham, although the U.K. version was re-titled “Hummingbird.” McClure played Statham’s former partner and the mother of his children in the movie.

Amazon’s IMDb TV, continuing its push into third-party distribution, has set a deal with Comcast to be integrated into the company’s Xfinity broadband and pay-tv platforms.

It is the first agreement for IMDb TV and a pay-tv operator. Comcast has led its peer group in weaving streaming services into its Xfinity Flex and X1 platforms, pursuing a strategy of reducing friction for viewers as they toggle between pay-tv and streaming. In recent years, it has made Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, Peacock, YouTube and other streaming outlets available to its subscribers through the Xfinity interface.

Sitting on the fringes of the Sahara Desert, the sprawling Oasis facility hosts over 12,000 square meters of built sets, a 300 square meter sound stage, studio and post-production facilities and production offices. “Leverage” returned on Friday in the form of the eight-episode revival, “Leverage: Redemption,” on the streaming service IMDb TV. But Timothy Hutton, whose character Nate Ford served as the center of the original TNT series, does not appear on screen.

IMDb TV‘s Leverage: Redemption is attaching an advisory to one of the eight episodes premiering this Friday, July 9, in the wake of the June 24 condo tower collapse in Surfside, Fla., which thus far has accounted for nearly 50 confirmed deaths.

The episode in question, the fourth of the first batch and titled “The Tower Job,” involves a New Orleans real estate developer (played by Champions‘ Andy Favreau) whose cost-cutting ways years ago resulted in the collapse of a condo tower during the construction phase, which is depicted in a visual FX “pancaking” sequence that evokes footage of the Champlain Towers South collapse in Surfside.

The streaming premiere of Justin Timberlake’s “Palmer” was touted by Apple TV Plus as powering its ‘“most-watched weekend” since the platform debuted just over a year ago. The film has Timberlake playing Eddie Palmer, who returns home from prison and bonds with a boy from a troubled home.

However, it’s singer Nathaniel Rateliff’s end-credits song, “Redemption,” garnering awards buzz for as the race for best original song continues. Variety has the exclusive premiere of his solo acoustic rendering of the theme song (below).

Says Rateliff, “For me, the song is about what I saw in the film, and what I see out there in the world, of continuing to struggle until we find some kind of peace and some kind of answer. Ongoing interest in Christopher Nolan’s film may seem ironic as it was the last major Warners release to see a traditional rollout. The studio reportedly recoups 70 percent of VOD rental; if there were 1 million rentals in a week, at the current price of $5.99, it would generate nearly $4.2 million. That would justify delaying a move to HBO Max.

As a PVOD, Universal sees a more generous revenue share of 80 percent on “News of the World” rentals. For a $4 million return — a nice bounty for a film with a reported $38 million budget...

Little has changed on the VOD charts this week. “News of the World” and “Tenet” still placed #1 on two of the charts we follow, although this week “News” ranked higher overall, placing #2 and #3 elsewhere. “Tenet” is on the lower half of two lists.

“News” at #1 at revenue-based FandangoNow, which has six premium-priced titles leading its list. It’s also the top title at Spectrum Channel, which ranks by transactions, and near the top at Amazon TV and Google Play. That suggests Universal has another breakout success with its strategy of providing three weeks in theaters before PVOD.

“Tenet,” which opened in theaters in September, continues to add revenues at $5.99. “News,” now in its fifth weekend in theaters, was #4 at the box office this weekend with a total of $9.6 million so far. (Netflix bought its international territories.) With a reported budget of $38 million before marketing, the studio may see a decent profit all in.

Machine Gun Kelly, Phoebe Bridgers and Nathaniel Rateliff will perform on Saturday Night Live when the show returns later this month.

Machine Gun Kelly will be the musical guest on the first episode back, January 30th, with host John Krasinski. Bridgers will perform on February 6th with host Dan Levy, and Rateliff will play February 13th with host Regina King. All three musical guests and hosts will be making their SNL debuts.

“Saturday Night Live” is set to return with its first episode of the new year on Jan. 30, with John Krasinski as host and Machine Gun Kelly as the musical guest.

NBC also announced the hosts and musical guests for the Feb. 6 and Feb. 13 episodes of the late-night sketch comedy series. Feb. 6 will see “Schitt’s Creek” co-creator and star Dan Levy hosting, with Phoebe Bridgers as the musical guest, while Feb. 13 welcomes Regina King, who is in the midst of awards season for her big-screen directorial debut “One Night in Miami,” and Nathaniel Rateliff.

NBC also shared that “Saturday Night Live” will continue its consecutive run through the Feb. 20 and Feb. 27 weeks, with guests for those shows to be announced at a later date.

Following a long theatrical run and a month at $19.99, “Tenet” is now thriving at $5.99 and holds the top spot at all three lists that rank by purchases. At FandangoNow, which ranks by revenue, it is #6, the highest among standard-price entries. Best of all for Warner Bros., its normal share of a VOD release is around 70 percent. That compares to the 63 percent it demanded from theaters.

“Tenet” held off two significant new PVOD entries from Universal and Focus, “News of the World” and “Promising Young Woman.” Paul Greengrass’ Tom Hanks western led Apple TV for three days and placed second to “Tenet” at Google Play over the weekend. This comes as Universal’s “The Croods: A New Age” continues its strong presence at $19.99. “News” is #1 at FandangoNow, with “Promising” at #3 on their PVOD-dominated list.

If “Redemption Day” were any more generic, the first thing you’d see on screen would be a bar code in place of the opening credits. It’s the handiwork of first-time feature filmmaker Hicham Hajji, making his directorial debut after years of assistant-directing gigs for Hollywood and homegrown productions in his native Morocco. And the best thing to say to say about it is, it’s certainly no worse than most other run-of-the-mill, run-and-gun action-adventures that used to proliferate on Blockbuster store shelves and which now feed the seemingly insatiable demand for VOD fare. Trouble is, it’s no better, either.

Exclusive: Voltage Pictures has boarded international sales on writer-director Kyle Rankin’s (Night Of The Living Deb) upcoming thriller Run Hide Fight, starring Thomas Jane (Deep Blue Sea), Radha Mitchell (Silent Hill) and Isabel May (Alexa & Katie). The U.S. firm will present the project to buyers at the upcoming European Film Market.

Run Hide Fight follows 17-year-old Zoe Hull (May) who uses her wits, survival skills, and compassion to fight for her life, and those of her fellow classmates, against a group of live-streaming school shooters.

Currently in post-production, the film also stars Eli Brown (Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists), Olly Sholotan (All American), Cyrus Arnold (Zoolander 2), Britton Sear (Boy Erased), Catherine Davis (S.W.A.T.), Treat Williams (Deep Rising), and Barbara Crampton (Re-Animator).

The project’s subject matter is a highly sensitive one. The filmmakers discussed their rationale for making the film and its journey when we broke news about it late last year.

Voltage Pictures unveiled the first look at its political-action drama “Redemption Day,” starring Andy Garcia, Gary Dourdan and Serinda Swan and set in Morocco.

In the Moroccan-set film, Dourdan portrays a Us. Marine Captain on a rescue mission to save his wife (Swan) when she is kidnapped by a terrorist group leader (Samy Naceri). Garcia is playing the American Ambassador in Morocco and Brice Bexter is portraying a Moroccan counter-terrorisim agent. The ambassador will have to go against the maneuvers of his own government and a mysterious powerful man who will undermine his mission.

“Redemption Day” also stars Ernie Hudson, Martin Donovan, Samy Naceri and Brice Bexter. It marks the feature film and directorial debut for Hicham Hajji, the first-ever Moroccan/Arab to write, produce and direct a major Hollywood feature film.

The film is heading for the Berlin Film Market, where Voltage Pictures will handle worldwide sales. Hajji is producing through his H Films.
