Ben Affleck and Matt Damon have done some great work together. That might hold true when Netflix releases Rip later this year. But another project involving Affleck and Damon has gone a bit awry.
The film is called Animals, with a screenplay penned by Billy Ray (who also wrote Captain Phillips and The Hunger Games) and Connor McIntyre, and Damon was set to star while Affleck directed. The start date for filming got pushed back, though, and other projects for each of Affleck and Damon forced a change in roles.
Damon had to bow out of Animals completely as he would soon be filming in Christopher Nolan's new film, The Odyssey, and that made his availability for Animals impossible. Affleck made the decision to not only keep directing the Netflix project, but to take over the featured role vacated by Damon as well.

Ben Affleck is to take Matt Damon’s role in Animals, opposite Gillian Anderson. Affleck is still set to direct.
With Christopher Nolan seemingly determined to suck up every last movie star in the Hollywood pantheon for his upcoming epic The Odyssey, film productions all over the world may find themselves bereft of star power. Given that we’ve just emerged from a year where the supply line of films was starved due to 2023’s actors’ strikes, let’s hope that Mr Nolan’s seeming determination to assemble half of Hollywood for his next major production doesn’t cause another dry spell as film productions everywhere realise they have no actors.
Don’t worry though, because Ben Affleck is here to save the day. Well, for one production anyway. Affleck was slated to work with Matt Damon on Animals, which would have repeated the formula the long-time collaborators most recently engineered on 2023’s Air,...

It’s no secret that Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are thick as thieves — the two have starred in several projects together and have even worked together as scribes on movies like Good Will Hunting. Last year it was announced that Affleck would direct Animals, a kidnapping thriller for Netflix with Damon attached to star, but the script was never properly ironed out and Nefflix decided to move on from the project for the time being. Now, a new report from THR revealed that Animals has the green light once more, only this time, Affleck will also star in addition to directing, and he has also tapped Gillian Anderson to star alongside him. The film is reportedly angling to begin production in April later this year in Los Angeles, but it has not yet nailed down an official release date.

Cooper Raiff’s film “Cha Cha Real Smooth” sold to Apple for $15 million in 2022, but his wasn’t the first, nor the last to notch such a deal at a festival. That’s not to say it was easy, but with Raiff’s new project, he doesn’t even have that track record to fall back on.
Raiff’s latest project is “Hal & Harper,” an 8-part dramedy series being presented in Sundance’s Episodic section. The series stars Lili Reinhart, Mark Ruffalo, Betty Gilpin, and Raiff, and is one of the higher profile series to ever play in Park City. The rub is, there’s very little precedent for an Episodic project to find a distributor on the sales market at Sundance. People aren’t coming to Sundance with a pot of money set aside to buy shows the way they are with movies. And for all the idiosyncratic series out there,...

Who ends up who is perhaps the most important question anime fans ask, possibly only second to "who would win?’ The romance genre is one of the most loved, and even though when the show is not exclusively romantic, fans are always interested in the dynamics between different characters. Sometimes, the audience is treated to obvious couple formations between the protagonists, but fans have limitless imaginations when it comes to shipping.
It just so happens that some anime couples don’t get their due share in the limelight because they haven’t been exclusively written into the storyline in that manner. However, usually, when the chemistry between some characters is off the charts or unexpected, it forces the viewers to make sense of that relationship. Whether they are canon or not, the audience has more than a few surprising anime ships that work far better than the original pair.

Jk Simmons reveals filming for The Accountant 2 will start sooner than expected, with his role likely a shorter one. Simmons' filming update also conflicts with recent reports that the sequel wouldn't begin filming until the second half of 2024 while Affleck worked on his and Matt Damon's Netflix thriller, Animals.

Ben Affleck’s Only Horror Movie Was So Bad It Couldn’t Even Earn More Than $10 Million at Box Office
Ben Affleck’s done a lot in Hollywood, you know? He’s been in all sorts of movies, from those big action flicks to the tear-jerker dramas. But when the 51-year-old dipped his toes into horror with Phantoms back in ’98, it didn’t quite hit the mark.
Ben Affleck in Justice League
The movie just couldn’t grab people’s attention, making less than 10 million bucks at the box office. Even though it had a cool idea and Affleck’s star power, Phantoms just didn’t live up to the hype, ending up as one of those forgettable horror flicks. It’s kinda curious why folks didn’t vibe with it and what it says about the actor’s career in movies.
Ben Affleck’s Sole Horror Movie Outing Was a Complete Flop
Ben Affleck tried his hand at horror, and let’s just say it didn’t end well.

The moviemaking business is alive and well, and somehow giving several talents the greenlight in a 24-hour span. Ranked in order of interest, from best to good-enough:
The Hollywood Reporter reports (from Hollywood) that Lily Gladstone and Martin Scorsese will reunite via Charlie Kaufman: the latter has written The Memory Police, an adaptation of Yoko Ogawa’s acclaimed sci-fi novel which the Best Actress nominee will lead and Scorsese is executive-producing. Reed Morano (I Think We’re Alone Now) is taking directing duties on the film, somehow both Kafkaesque and Orwellian, as the official synopsis suggests:
On an unnamed island, objects are disappearing: first hats, then ribbons, birds, roses. . . . Most of the inhabitants are oblivious to these changes, while those few able to recall the lost objects live in fear of the draconian Memory Police, who are committed to ensuring that what has disappeared remains forgotten. In a devastating (but perhaps none too surprising) blow to Dad Cinema enthusiasts the world over, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon's acclaimed true-story Nike drama "Air" was completely ignored by the Academy when Oscar nominations were announced earlier this week. However, if you were expecting the Oscar-winning duo/best buds to spend the immediate future licking their wounds and wallowing in self-pity, guess again. According to The Hollywood Reporter, they've instead gone and lined up their next project together -- an original crime thriller titled "Animals," which now has Netflix backing it.
Having previously gone under working titles like "The Animals of Los Angeles" and "Be Gentlemen," the new Affleck-Damon joint will see Damon starring and Affleck directing from a script by Connor McIntyre with revisions from "Shattered Glass" and "Captain Phillips" scribe Billy Ray. The plot involves (per THR) "a mayoral candidate and his wife whose son is kidnapped.

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are set to reunite for the tenth time on Netflix's Animals. Damon and Affleck have worked together in a variety of capacities for more than two decades now. While both stars have found success in their own respective acting and filmmaking endeavors, every re-team, including last year's Air for Prime Video, marks an exciting occasion. The duo even started their own production company in November 2022 called Artists Equity.
Netflix now reveals that Damon and Affleck will reunite for Animals, a crime thriller.

Ben Affleck will be directing best friend and longtime collaborator Matt Damon once more, this time for Netflix noir film “Animals.”
Affleck recently directed (and co-starred alongside) Damon for Nike/Michael Jordan biopic “Air.” Now, the secretive Netflix production which has been known under titles like “The Animals of Los Angeles” and “Be Gentlemen,” is officially announced as “Animals.”
Affleck and Damon’s joint Artists Equity production company is behind the film, which is set to begin filming in March 2024 in Los Angeles.
“Animals” is written by Connor McIntyre, with revisions by Billy Ray. Per The Hollywood Reporter, the thriller centers around a mayoral candidate whose son is kidnapped. The candidate and his wife opt to find out the truth for themselves.
“Animals” will be produced by Affleck, Damon, and Dani Bernfeld of Artists Equity, the artist-led studio founded by Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, and Gerry Cardinale/RedBird Capital Partners.

The Dream Team is back! Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are teaming up again for Animals, a kidnapping thriller for Netflix. Affleck will direct Animals from a script written by Connor McIntyre with revisions by Billy Ray. In addition to his directorial duties, Affleck will produce alongside Damon, Dani Bernfeld of Artists Equity, Brad Weston, and Collin Creighton of MakeReady, who set the project up with Fifth Season.
Plot details remain a mystery, though we know it focuses on a kidnapping. Michael Joe of Artists Equity and Kevin Halloran executive produce with Fifth Season.
Last year, Affleck and Damon delighted audiences with Air, a sports drama following the history of sports marketing executive Sonny Vaccaro and how he led Nike in its pursuit of the greatest athlete in the history of basketball, Michael Jordan. The emotionally charged film performed like gangbusters for Amazon and banked $90 million at the global box office.

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are teaming up once again for “Animals,” a new crime thriller that Netflix has just acquired. Affleck will direct, with Damon starring, from a script by Connor McIntyre and Billy Ray.
Affleck will remain behind the camera for “Animals” — unlike his previous collaboration with Damon, Amazon Studios’ “Air,” in which Damon starred as Nike executive Sonny Vaccaro opposite Affleck in a supporting role as Nike founder Phil Knight. Like “Air,” Affleck and Damon are producing the project with Dani Bernfeld through their company Artists Equity, which they founded in 2022 with the intention of sharing profits with not just fellow actors, but below-the-line crew as well.
Plot details are scarce for “Animals,” but the story will focus on a kidnapping.
Affleck and Damon famously became friends in high school and collaborated as screenwriters for the 1997 indie sensation “Good Will Hunting,” which won them an Oscar for best original screenplay.

Mark Duplass and producing partner Mel Eslyn are continuing their Sundance reign with the debut of series “Penelope.”
The entirely independently financed and produced series follows the titular Penelope (Megan Stott), a teen who feels more connected with nature than she does her own family. As Penelope escapes into the wilderness, she seeks to find herself in the coming-of-age indie drama.
Duplass and Eslyn co-created and co-wrote the series, which is seeking a distributor at the festival. CAA is handling sales. The Duplass Brothers formerly debuted adult animated series “Animals,” which premiered at 2016 Sundance in the early days of the festival expanding to include episodics.
The official synopsis reads: Feeling out of place in the modern world, 16-year-old Penelope (Stott) finds herself almost cosmically drawn to nature. With no plan in place, she leaves her family behind for the beguiling wilderness where she begins to establish a different kind of life for herself.

Big Thief have shared a remastered reissue of their 2016 debut album Masterpiece, out now via 4Ad.
When Big Thief released Masterpiece in 2016, they seemingly became indie rock royalty overnight. The Brooklyn-based band recorded the album in July 2015 at a makeshift studio in an old lakehouse with producer Andrew Sarlo and engineer James Krivchenia, the latter of whom would go on to become Big Thief’s full-time drummer.
Though its title could be used to describe the quality of the record itself, vocalist Adrianne Lenker says Masterpiece refers to “the masterpiece of existence, which is always folding into itself, people attempting to connect, to both shake themselves awake and to shake off the numbness of certain points in their life. The interpretations might be impressionistic or surrealistic, but they’re grounded in simple things.”
In additional Big Thief news, the band has also unveiled an official karaoke YouTube channel so that...

Back in late 2016, Roger Waters delivered some bad news to his firstborn son Harry: He was firing him from his touring band.
In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Harry recalled the day shortly before Christmas of that year when his father made a visit to his Santa Monica home to inform him that after 14 years of playing keyboards in the band, he would not be onboard for the impending “Us + Them” tour.
“I was fired,” Harry said. “It was pretty miserable.”
Roger was apparently cleaning house with his live lineup, axing everyone except keyboardist Jon Carin and guitarist Dave Kilminster. There were no exceptions for immediate family.
“I think he just wanted a change of blood, something new, something fresh,” said Harry, who still doesn’t know exactly why he was let go. “I’m not sure of his exact reasoning, but everyone except two people got fired. But...

David Dastmalchian is confident that Count Crowley can be adapted into a movie or TV show, possibly in an animated format. Dastmalchian's acting history in comic book adaptations and his connections in the industry make him a suitable candidate to helm a Count Crowley adaptation. The current success and audience demand for independent and unique comic book stories, as well as the popularity of the horror genre, increase the chances of Count Crowley becoming a successful adaptation.
With his own celebrated history in the genre, David Dastmalchian feels confident in Count Crowley getting a movie or TV adaptation. [Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the July 25 episode of Jeopardy!] Two-day Jeopardy! champion and marketing director Taylor Clagett had to defend his $31,800 winnings against library circulation assistant Julie Sission and psychologist resident Andrew Knowles. And although the Final Jeopardy can come across as easy to viewers, some more obvious clues left our cast of contestants completely stumped. In the first round, the “Denmark” category took some casualties, with every contestant getting the same question wrong for $200. “Animals” for $600 produced another triple stumper, as did “Animals” for $400. “Even Rhyme the Time” for $200 made everyone clam up. However, when the game shifted to Double Jeopardy, Julie found the second Daily Double almost immediately but was unable to answer correctly. She dropped $4,000 from her third-place total of $4,200 against Taylor’s lead of $6,200. This ruined her chance of jumping from third to first place, as host Ken Jennings pointed out, especially since Taylor correctly answered the final Daily Double soon after for ...

In 2014, an independent feature film came along that quietly showed off the writing and acting skills of David Dastmalchian. This movie was Animals.
The name may not be immediately recognizable, but fans will know him from many different films. However, Animals was a chance for him to truly show off his many talents.

Brad Ingelsby’s Mare of Easttown won four Emmys and two Critics Choice Awards, as well as Writers Guild, Producers Guild,...
