Kenny Smith is moving from Disney to NBCUniversal.
The Black-ish co-showrunner has struck an overall deal with Universal Television. He was previously under a three-year overall deal at ABC Studios.

In addition to taking over from Kenya Barris as co-showrunner of ABC comedy Black-ish, he developed a number of projects at the Disney-owned studio, including None of the Above, which was ordered to pilot at Freeform.

I’ve been watching, among other things, the current reboot of ‘Will & Grace‘. One of, many, many, many new TV reboots that are occurring. Alright, I know, I’m not breaking any new ground, Hollywood’s not that original, blah, blah, blah. Still though, this TV reboot caught my attention. For one thing–really? This show you’re rebooting? I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love ‘Will & Grace‘ I actually I might argue that it’s one of the more underrated shows of all-time, and had it not been directly up against ‘CSI‘ for so many years, I think it might’ve won more Best Comedy Series Emmys than it actually did. It’s still one of only three series, ‘All in the Family‘ and ‘The Golden Girls‘ being the others, where every original main member of the regular cast won an acting Emmy for said series. I...

Comedian Mike Epps has apologized for bringing a kangaroo onstage at one of his shows — a kick in the shins to Twitter users who have been slamming it as animal abuse. “Look I wanna sincerely apologize to everybody, I don’t own the kangaroo and did not mean any harm to the animal it got outta hand and I am sorry,” Epps wrote in a post on Instagram. The “Uncle Buck” star also promised to donate money to a foundation working to protect the animals. Video of Epps’ show in Detroit last week shows him on a stage with a kangaroo.

Now that ABC has snuffed the life from Uncle Buck with a snap of its fingers, it seems Mike Epps might be looking for a chance to exact some payback. Empire reports the comedian and actor has joined the cast of upcoming revenge-thriller remake Death Wish, possibly hoping director Eli Roth might cast a few network execs as cannon fodder in the film. (Of course, maybe Roth has already cast a studio exec in that role as a favor to writer and ex-helmer of the project Joe Carnahan, to help him get some closure with the “gutless turd” and “dumb cunt” who disapproved of Carnahan’s casting choices.)

Comedian and actor Mike Epps has climbed aboard Eli Roth’s Death Wish remake, joining the likes of Bruce Willis, Vincent D’Onofrio and Breaking Bad‘s Dean Norris.
First reported by Deadline, the outlet confirmed earlier today that Epps – best known for The Hangover, Fifty Shades of Black and Uncle Buck – will assume the part of Dr. Chris Salgado, a playboy doctor and close friend to Willis’ Paul Kersey. Very much considered to be the anchor point of MGM and Paramount’s redo, Death Wish will open at a time when Kersey’s entire livelihood “has been destroyed by a violent crime against his wife and daughter. Frustrated that the bad guys for the crime were never brought to justice, Kersey starts hunting them down.” Not bad for a mild-mannered New York City architect.

Titles for TV series are tough. You want something that gets attention, but also captures the subject and tone of your show, and you don't want to alienate potential viewers in the process. We've all shared a sigh over the poor choices that the folks behind Terriers, Trophy Wife, Cougar Town, et al right now, and if Crazy Ex-Girlfriend doesn't make it past its second season, we can once again rail against anyone's belief that the audience appreciates nuance and/or irony in titles. The Starz basketball comedy (from LeBron James' production company) Survivor's Remorse has a name that's not as off-putting as some of the ones above, but it's not particularly good, either. Sure, one of the key themes of the show is the way its hero, young basketball star Cam Calloway (Jesse T. Usher) feels bad about escaping a tough neighborhood to become rich and famous, but...

2016-07-19T08:05:00-07:00'Survivor's Remorse' Returns without Mike Epps?
When Survivor's Remorse returns to Starz for its third season this weekend, one thing is almost certain: Mike Epps and his Uncle Julius character won't be around. The cliffhanger at the end of last season suggested that Uncle J might not be on hand at the start of the new season - or ever again - but thanks to some off-camera explanation from Epps, we know for certain that Julius is history.
When the series' season two ended (spoilers coming), Uncle Julius had been involved in a vicious car accident and had sustained what appeared to be life-threatening injuries. According to Epps, that turn of events happened because of a very non-story-related situation off the set.
"I asked for some more money, and they killed me," Epps told a panel audience at the Television Critics Association press tour in January.

Perhaps “Uncle Buck” is a bit of a loser, after all. The ABC small-screen adaptation lost one-third of its viewers in the key 18-49 demographic from last week’s debut. To be fair to Mike Epps & Co., however, this week’s “Buck” lead-in was much weaker — a “Black-ish” encore (0.7 rating), versus a “To Tell the Truth” preview (a 1.1). Over on primetime-winner NBC, sketch show “Maya & Marty” actually bested the series finale of CBS’ “Person of Interest” in the main demo. ABC continues its commitment to great storytelling with the announcement of its 2015-16 slate of programming, including the addition of 10 new series. Paul Lee, president, ABC Entertainment Group, will unveil the network's new lineup to the advertising and media communities this afternoon at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall. Here's what Paul Lee had to say in a statement.
"Our new slate of shows continues the momentum from last year. ABC was the most buzzed about network, and the only major network to hold on to its audience and to grow in the target demo. Our 2015-16 schedule, with new shows and returning favorites that reflect our commitment to world-class storytelling, will solidify ABC's place as the network that raises the bar for what viewers expect from broadcast television.
ABC is the only major network to increase its Adult 18-49 audience during the 2014-15 season. ABC delivered 7 of the Top...

Following the first Uncle Buck photo released last week, after ABC issued a series order for the comedy, the network showed the first trailer during their upfront presentation in New York City earlier today. Mike Epps stars as the title character, who is tasked with watching the nieces and nephews he barely knows while their parents go out of town for a weekend. While his stay doesn't exactly go according to plan, the trailer reveals that Buck will be sticking around as the kids' new nanny.
Based on the hit movie of the same name, Uncle Buck is a fun-loving but irresponsible guy who needs a job and a place to stay. By happy coincidence, his nieces' and nephew's nanny has just quit and his brother and sister-in-law need his help. His unconventional personality may just make him the right fit for the family and they may be the answer to his problems,...

Tone Bell and Bresha Webb are one-half of a couples comedy coming to NBC this fall, from producer Will Packer, titled "People Are Talking." which examines sex, race and everything else your parents told you never to talk about. The other couple is played by Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Meaghan Rath. In the half-hour comedy series, the couples are best friends as well as neighbors. NBC has set the series to air on Friday nights. Worth noting... it's the second Will Packer-produced pilot that has been ordered to series for next season - the other going to ABC, the comedy remake "Uncle Buck," which will star Mike Epps in the title role, and Nia Long as...

After the avalanche of ABC new series orders last night, here is another one this morning. The network has picked up multi-camera comedy Uncle Buck, a new take on the hit 1989 movie. I’m told the series starring Mike Epps is eyed for midseason. I hear its order came later than the other because of last-minute negotiations between ABC and Universal TV, the studio that developed the project and co-produces it with ABC Studios. (ABC Studios boarded the comedy at the pilot…...
