Still haunts me

I only watched this movie last year (2017) notwithstanding the serious hype surrounding it during its release. I'm lazy that way. Whilst it never shows any actual sexual act of molestation, it was probably one of the most difficult movies to watch. It grips you in a way that you want to see what happens, I HAD TO see what happens. Hoping and rooting for the ending I want. I thought the acting was brilliant, disturbingly so. The hate and disgust and repulsion I felt for the step father and the mother was palpable. The empathy for Anna and the hopelessness of her situation drove me to drink. Excellent film, hard to watch at times but highlights a very real and much too common reality where kids are encouraged to rather keep quiet by a broken society. All that lacked for me was someone actually giving the mom a high five. With a brick. In the face.
