The main point of contention was whether or not Maloney had his fiancee’s jacket.

Jeopardy!‘s Second Chance champion and fan-favorite Drew Goins is reflecting on what it’s really like filming an episode of the long-running game show behind the scenes, and one of his ad-break rituals may surprise some. According to Goins, what you see is what you get when it comes to Jeopardy! as he says, “I was surprised how little TV magic there is. There’s nothing about Jeopardy! that feels misleading. The show breaks where the commercial breaks in taping. They go up there and they’re not talking about Eggland’s best eggs, but you do have five minutes, and Ken takes some questions from the audience,” he adds. Among one of Goins’ go-to moves during those all-important ad breaks was exercise. “You get a chance to stretch,” he notes, adding, “I kind of became notorious for using the breaks to do calisthenics right there on the stage.

Taye Diggs has returned to television in a brand-new capacity: as a judge on the competition show Second Chance Stage. But leading up to this latest gig, the talented performer has certainly kept busy with a wide variety of acting roles over the years, plus hosting the coveted Critics' Choice Awards a number of times. Fans of The CW's offerings might know him best as "Coach" from the hit series All American — and were probably bummed when Diggs' character was abruptly killed off during season 5. Luckily, series followers were able to see Diggs make a strange return in the latest season — as a ghost — and MovieWeb recently caught up with the talented performer to ask about his experience on the show overall, especially after his little Season 6 comeback.

Niels Arestrup, the French-Danish actor and muse to Emilia Pérez director Jacques Audiard who appeared in international features including Steven Spielberg’s War Horse and Julian Schnabel’s The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, has died. He was 75.
Arestrup’s wife, Isabelle Le Nouvel, confirmed his death to Agence France-Presse on Sunday, saying he died “at the end of a courageous fight against illness.”
Arestrup will forever be linked to Audiard and his performances in the filmmaker’s The Beat That My Heart Skipped (2005) — playing the criminal father to Romain Duris’ would-be concert pianist — and A Prophet (2009), in which he embodies a terrifying Corsican mob boss who runs his operation from within prison.
Arestrup won best supporting acting César awards, France’s equivalent of the Oscar, for both roles, and the performances solidified his image as an onscreen villain with a piercing blue gaze who is barely holding back the violence within.

On October 3, 2022, I, a filmmaker from Beirut, met Mumbai-based writer/director Subhadra Mahajan and producer Shyam Bora on our first day at the Global Media Makers LA Residency, a cultural exchange program supported by Film Independent and the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
At the time, Subhadra and Shyam were the first filmmaking team to bring a project to the Residency in the post-production stage. Two years later, their film Second Chance had its world premiere at the Promixa Competition section of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, its Asian premiere at A Window on Asian Cinema of the Busan International Film Festival. It will now have its North American premiere in Los Angeles at AFI Fest.

With The Penguin ranking as one of Batman's most iconic enemies, it's no surprise that the character has delivered many memorable quotes across his movie and TV appearances. With so many unique takes on the character having been brought to life over the years, the Penguin has been represented in a variety of ways. Subhadra Mahajan takes the helm for her first feature, Second Chance, crafting a tender exploration of personal turmoil. The drama stars Dheera Johnson as Nia, a young woman seeking respite from heartbreak in the remote Himalayan village where her family spends summers.
There, isolated from loved ones as winter sets in, Nia finds comfort in the company of Bhemi, a wise elder, and her playful grandson Sunny. While grappling with secrets from her past, Nia slowly emerges from solitude through genuine human connections in this atmospheric debut.
Reviewing the acclaimed film as it makes its world premiere on the festival circuit, we’ll examine Mahajan’s empathetic direction and her leads’ nuanced performances.
Most intriguing is the insight offered by situating personal awakening against epic mountain backdrops. So join me for a thoughtful discussion of Second Chance’s moving portrayal of inner turmoil easing through compassion.

Since the cast announcement in April 2023, it has been relatively quiet surrounding Killer Heat, the latest movie by Night of the Kings filmmaker Philippe Lacte. Now, Amazon Studios has revealed that the film, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Shailene Woodley and Richard Madden, will be released on the streaming service on September 26.
The Mediterranean noir thriller, which is an adaption of Jo Nesbs 2021 short story The Jealousy Man centers on a damaged detective (Gordon-Levitt) known as The Jealousy Man whos investigating the intriguing case of twin brothers (Madden) caught up in a violent and rough love triangle on the remote Greek island of Crete. The script is written by House of Guccis Roberto Bentivegna, while Bridge of Spies screenwriter Matt Charman made revisions to the screenplay. As Madden mentioned in an interview with Collider, principal photography of this feature started in April 2023. In May this year, Lacte himself announced that the movie...

It’s hard to get a cellphone signal up in the high mountains of Himachal Pradesh, in Northern India. Especially in the dead of winter when deep snowdrifts absorb all sound and jagged encircling ridges form an impenetrably icy barrier. But without WiFi coverage, Subhadra Mahajan’s spectacular and serene “Second Chance” suggests, a different, deeper kind of connection is possible — to these stark, unearthly landscapes, to the people who’ve made their lives among them, and perhaps even to the self you might have lost touch with through trauma or tiredness, down in the busy, noisy world below.
Twenty-five-year-old Nia (Dheera Johnson) is feeling estranged from herself when she takes refuge here. In a startling juxtaposition, Mahajan cuts from a black screen over which audio of an anguished voicemail plays to Nia gazing out over a stunning black-and-white vista of mountain crags riisng up from a frozen valley basin.

The setting of Subhadra Mahajan’s feature debut may be chilly, but the vibes are warm. The aptly titled film revolves around Nia, a depressed young Indian woman who leaves Delhi and escapes to her family’s Himalayan summer retreat in the dead of winter to recover from a trauma. What she experiences there belies both hers and the viewer’s expectations, in a location so icily beautiful that the region may well experience a surge of tourism. A feel-good film in the best sense of the term, Second Chance is receiving its world premiere at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
In the film’s opening moments, we hear a frantic phone call cluing us in to Nia’s turmoil — namely, that she’s taken abortion pills after getting pregnant by a boyfriend who abandoned her and is desperate to keep the secret from her parents. Cut to a shot of Nia (Dheera Johnson,...

Debutant filmmaker Subhadra Mahajan’s Second Chance (2024) is a gentle portrait of a young woman’s exploration of love, death, and the resurgence of hope. It centers around a protagonist who shrinks her mental space and tries to refuse the reality that eats her up from the inside. The evocative story follows a single, pregnant woman coping with abandonment by her boyfriend. Enhanced by a mournful score and naturalistic approach, the film seeks depth in a simple yet hopeful tale. This lends the story a certain simplicity, bringing it further into the realm of a humane tale and offering a thoughtful exploration of human relationships without overshadowing its primary focus. Mahajan’s storytelling style, which is slow-paced and introspective, can be seen as having a blend of deep affinity and detached observation. Instead of deeply immersing the viewers in the protagonist’s emotional struggles through melodrama, she approaches it with a detached yet empathetic observation,...

When The Hollywood Reporter caught up with Lara Flynn Boyle for a rare interview in June 2021, she had a new movie to promote, Death in Texas, her first in five years. But Boyle was quick to swat away any chatter of a comeback by saying, politely, “I never went anywhere.”
The veteran star, now 54, has maintained a relatively low profile ever since but she’s back once again with another interview, this time with People, timed to the release of another new movie, Niclas Larsson’s Mother, Couch opposite Ewan McGregor, Rhys Ifans, Taylor Russell and Ellen Burstyn.
The wide-ranging, one-hour conversation with writer Eric Andersson at the Beverly Hills Hotel’s Polo Lounge finds Boyle opening up about ageism in Hollywood, dating actors, and her marriage to Texas real estate developer Donald Ray Thomas. Even though it’s becoming something of a trend, Boyle once again swats away talk...

Everyone knows Matthew Perry as Chandler Bing on the hit NBC sitcom "Friends," but he was also briefly a part of the beloved classic "Growing Pains" for a three-episode arc in 1989. "Growing Pains" was yet another 1980s and 1990s family-oriented sitcom that explored — as the title indicates — the joys and pains of adolescence in a heartwarming yet comical manner. The three episodes Matthew Perry featured in — "In Carol We Trust," "Anniversary from Hell," and "Second Chance" — served as an after-school special to teach viewers about the risks of drunk driving. The episodes also featured a statistic on the deaths or accidents linked to alcohol United States.
Matthew Perry played Sandy, Carol Seaver's new boyfriend. After having a few beers on their date, Sandy ends up hitting a tree and is subsequently hospitalized and charged with drunk driving. During the scene where Carol visits him at the hospital, Perry showcases his...

Shojo anime is written and marketed for a young female audience. It tells stories that primarily focus on female protagonists and their internal growth, personal relationships, families, learning, and the act of falling in love. There's a lot of opportunity within these themes for complex character growth.
Shojo audiences love watching their favorite characters find middle ground and fall in love with the most unlikely people. And oftentimes, protagonists go through difficult life phases, like their sudden awakening from naïveté, outright ignorance, or grief, which are very relatable. The plot stakes in shojo anime are woven together so well that there are no easy resolutions and they can only be resolved through a nuanced character-building journey.

Perry’s roles in films like Fools Rush In, The Whole Nine Yards, and 17 Again extended his comedy chops from Friends to film. With roles like Matthew Albie in Studio 60 and Oscar Madison in The Odd Couple, Perry pushed himself outside of his iconic role on Friends.
To say that Matthew Perry left behind a legacy is somewhat of an understatement. When the actor died unexpectedly on Saturday, October 28, after an apparent drowning, the internet and Hollywood erupted with memories and tributes to a brilliant actor gone far too soon. Perry was just 54.
Though he was largely known for his portrayal of Chandler Bing on Friends, Perry leaves behind a filmography that extends well beyond that sitcom and a history of supporting addicts as they attempted to get sober.

Actor Matthew Perry, who rose to stardom with his portrayal of Chandler Bing in the iconic sitcom ‘Friends’, breathed his last as he died at the age of 54 at his Los Angeles home. His portrayal broke new grounds, and over the years has become a mark of the 1990s.
One of the reasons Perry fits in so well as Chandler is his proximity to the character in some sense. Like Chandler, Perry’s parents too separated when he was an infant.
He grew up in Ottawa, Ontario and stayed with his Canadian mother, who was a journalist and served as press secretary to former Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, the father of the current Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau.
As his mother later married Canadian-born broadcast journalist Keith Morrison, Matthew also lived briefly in Toronto and Montreal.
At the age of 15, Perry moved from Ottawa to Los Angeles to live with his biological father,...

He earned a Primetime Emmy nomination in 2002 for his performance on the iconic sitcom. Among the six stars in the “Friends” ensemble, Perry was ambitious as a performer and a producer, but he also grappled with a long struggle with substance abuse that stunted his career.
