The BBC has picked up Irish crime drama Kin from Fifth Season.

The RTÉ series, which aired in the U.S. on AMC+, is the latest high-profile show snapped up by the BBC buying team, following the likes of AMC’s Interview with the Vampire. It is produced by Joker financier Bron Studios and Man in the High Castle outfit Headline Pictures.

Kin stars Clare Dunne (Herself), Charlie Cox (Daredevil), Aidan Gillen (Game of Thrones) and Ciarán Hinds (Game of Thrones). It follows gang wars in Dublin. A boy is killed and his family embarks on a gangland war with an international cartel: a war that is impossible to win. The Kinsellas are a local crime family, while the Cunningham cartel is a vast global organization.

“Gangs of London” has officially started production on Season 3, with Sky and AMC+ revealing the director and writer of the show’s next installment.

South Korea’s Kim Hong Sun (“Project Wolf Hunting”) will direct and executive produce the upcoming eight-episode season, with Peter McKenna (“Kin”) serving as lead writer and executive producer. Kim’s most recent film, the action horror “Project Wolf Hunting,” premiered in Toronto International Film Festival’s Midnight Madness section last year. Kim has also directed “Metamorphosis” (2019) and “Traffickers” (2012), both of which have contributed to the surge in popularity of horror-based cinema in Korea. McKenna is the creator and showrunner of AMC+ and Rte drama “Kin,” starring Charlie Cox, Clare Dunne, Aidan Gillen and Ciaran Hinds. He has also worked on “Red Rock,” “The Gloaming,” “The Last Kingdom” and “Around the World in Eighty Days.”

Exclusive: Richard Flood (Grey’s Anatomy) and Acushla-Tara Kupe (Mr Corman) have been cast as leads in The Gone, a mystery drama series for RTÉ and New Zealand’s Tvnz that brings together Irish and Māori culture. The pair will front the series, which goes into principal photography on location in Auckland and Te Aroha, New Zealand this week, with further shooting taking place in Ireland’s capital Dublin late this year.

New Zealand’s Kingfisher Films and About Joan co-producer Blinder Films are co-producing, in association with another Kiwi firm, Southern Light Films. Te Puna Kairangi, the New Zealand Government’s Premium Productions for International Audiences Fund and New Zealand’s Screen Production Grant; Screen Ireland/Fís Éireann; Nz On Air; and the Bai Sound & Vision Fund have all supported the production. Red Arrow International Studios has the distribution rights.

The adaptation of T.M. Logan’s novel “The Holiday” has an exclusive trailer and a U.S. release date as it announces a raft of sales.

The four-part limited drama – about “a dream family vacation that quickly turns into a nightmare” – will bow on Spectrum in the U.S. on June 20.

It stars Jill Halfpenny (“Humans”), Owen McDonnell (“Killing Eve”), Lara McDonnel (“Belfast”), and Aidan McArdle (“The Trial of Christine Keeler”). Nicolas Cage has appeared in dozens of movies of varying critical reception over the years, but his latest movie Pig has risen above the rest as his highest-rated live-action movie on Rotten Tomatoes. With a 97% Certified Fresh score, Pig has topped Red Rock West at 95%, Moonstruck at 94%, and Face/Off at 92%. The 97% score is tied with the animated movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which featured Cage as the voice of Spider-Man Noir.

This is certainly great news for Nicolas Cage, who has developed a bit of a reputation for accepting all roles thrown his way, for better or for worse. He has previously starred in universally panned movies with 0% rotten scores on Rotten Tomatoes, like Deadfall and Grand Isle. Titles like The Wicker Man, Bangkok Dangerous, and Arsenal didn't fare much better. Perhaps this just goes to show that Cage is indeed a fantastic actor, he just needs the right material to work with.

Wildcard Distribution distributes in Ireland, UK.

Heading into the Cannes virtual pre-screenings event next month, Los Angeles-based Myriad Pictures has picked up international rights excluding the UK and Ireland to Irish comedy Deadly Cuts.

Rachel Carey wrote and directed the film, a Dublin International Film Festival Discovery Awards recipient for breakthrough talent that closed the festival in March.

Deadly Cuts follows a working class hair salon where young stylists Stacey, Gemma, and Chantelle and their boss Michelle accidentally become vigilantes and community heroes when they challenge gang members and gentrifiers threatening their community.

AMC Networks’ streaming service Acorn TV has acquired exclusive U.S. and Canadian rights to BBC One crime thriller series “Bloodlands” from Hat Trick International and executive producer Jed Mercurio.

The four-part series, written by Chris Brandon (“Red Rock”), stars James Nesbitt as a veteran detective in Northern Ireland going into his own dark past to try and solve a cold case.

“Bloodlands” will bow as an Acorn TV Original in the U.S. and Canada this fall soon after its U.K. premiere on BBC One. The series is the first commission for Hat Trick Mercurio Television (Htm), the U.K. production company co-owned by Mercurio and Hat Trick.

ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy and spinoff Station 19 have been building an unified, seamless universe under executive producer/showrunner Krista Vernoff. Now the two Thursday dramas are making their cast promotions in unison, with one recurring player who started on the mothership series becoming a full-time cast member on the offshoot.

Richard Flood and Anthony Hill have been promoted to series regulars on Grey’s Anatomy for the medical drama’s upcoming 17th season. Dubbed an “Irish noir,” Nesbitt will play Northern Irish police detective Tom Brannick who connects a suicide note with an infamous cold case with enormous personal significance. The discovery sparks an explosive hunt for a legendary assassin.

Bloodlands is written by newcomer Chris Brandon, who has only penned a handful of episodes of TV3’s Irish police drama Red Rock, and is Hat Trick Mercurio Television’s debut commission.

Hmt Television was set up in 2015 and is co-owned by Mercurio and Hat Trick Productions, the Jimmy Mulville-run indie behind shows including Have I Got News For You and Matt LeBlanc’s Golden Globe-winning Episodes.

Mercurio, Mulville and Mark Redhead are the executive producers for Htm, while Tommy Bulfin will executive produce for the BBC.

Amazon has released the first trailer for a new rom-com anthology series they are producing called Modern Love. The series was created by Once and Sing Street director John Carney and he managed to fill it with a super impressive cast.

Whedon’s series “The Nevers” has cast Olivia Williams, James Norton, Tom Riley, Ann Skelly, Ben Chaplin, Pip Torrens, Zackary Momoh, Amy Manson, Nick Frost, Rochelle Neil, Eleanor Tomlinson, and Denis O’Hare. They join previously announced cast member Laura Donnelly, who will star as Amalia True.

“The Nevers,” which was ordered straight-to-series last July, is described as an epic science fiction drama about a gang of Victorian women who find themselves with unusual abilities, relentless enemies, and a mission that might change the world.

The Alliance was formed last year by France Televisions, Germany’s Zdf and Italy’s Rai. The partners unveiled their two new ambitious shows Wednesday at Series Mania in Lille, France.

Set at the iconic Parisian Garnier Opera House, “Find Me in Paris” will again revolve around Lena Grisky, a time-traveling young dancer and princess poised to become the next young star of the ballet world in 1905. The choreography is by Jean Guillaume Bart, the renowned former star of the Opera of Paris.

The series, which has now been ordered for a second season, is directed by Matt Bloom and the Dublin-born brothers Ronan and Robert Burke (“Red Rock”). “Find Me in Paris” stars several British actors, notably Jessica Lord (“The Next Step”), Hannah Dodd (“Harlots”), Eubha Akilade (“Eve”) and Rory Saper (“The Legend of Tarzan”), as well as Canadian actor Castle Rock (“The Descendants 2”).

Ronan and Robert Burke, the Dublin-born brothers best known for directing the popular crime drama “Red Rock” and Netflix horse-riding series “Free Rein,” have come on board to direct episodes of the time-traveling ballerina series “Find Me in Paris.”

“Find Me in Paris” is being produced by David Michel, Zoé Carrera Allaix and Cecile Lauritano at Cottonwood Media, a division of Federation Entertainment. The company has just kicked off production on season two of the half-hour premium tween series.

Matt Bloom, who helmed the first season, will be back to direct the second order of “Find Me in Paris.” Earlier this year, Bloom earned an international Emmy Award nomination, as well as a BAFTA nom for his critically acclaimed series “Hank Zipzer.” Bloom also directed Disney’s hit series “The Lodge” which sold in over 112 countries.

Richard Flood, who recurred in Season 8 of Showtime’s Shameless, has been promoted to series regular for the upcoming ninth season.

Flood plays Ford, the Irish finishing carpenter and craftsman, lesbian sperm-donor to many, and a reluctant Fiona’s boyfriend. He appeared in a total of six episodes in Season 8.

Shameless, created by Paul Abbott, is produced by Bonanza Productions in association with John Wells Productions and Warner Bros Television. Wells developed the U.S. series from the UK original; he showruns and executive produces with Nancy M. Pimental.

Known for his starring role in Irish drama series Red Rock, which recently debuted on Amazon, Flood’s other credits include NBC drama series Crossing Lines and Nat Geo’s Killing Kennedy. He’s repped by Gersh and More/Medavoy.

London-based film financier and exec producer Red Rock Entertainment has opened an office in Spain, which it hopes will aid UK producers with developing co-productions with European counterparts after Brexit.

The office is based in Malaga and has recently opened with staff in place. The company is aiming to have ten staff in the office in time for Brexit, and also plans to move some UK staff to Spain.

At a time when studios rarely fund a film unless its budget is micro or blockbuster, Sony’s Screen Gems has embraced the middle way. By funding mid-ranged genre films like “Don’t Breathe” and making huge box office returns, the mini-major has become a major success story by doing things differently.

But when it comes to gear, they’re moving in the other direction: Today, Screen Gems announced that its new horror film “Cadaver” will be shot with a small and relatively inexpensive ($3,000) Sony a7S II.

“The Sony a7S cameras are a perfect fit for the movies we produce at Screen Gems because they afford us opportunities we might otherwise not get,” wrote Screen Gems’ head of physical production Glenn Gainor, in response to IndieWire’s inquiry.

UK producer Sarah Curtis (The Awakening) of Forthcoming Films has boarded an adaptation of celebrated twentieth century Irish writer Flann O’Brien’s darkly comedic story The Dead Spit Of Kelly about a taxidermist who kills his boss and then dons his skin to hide the crime.

“It’s a very unusual story,” said Irish producer Michael Garland of Grand Pictures who initiated the project, which is based on a screenplay by the late writer Johnny Ferguson (Gangster No.1).

Element Pictures has acquired Irish and UK rights to Halal Daddy, a culture-clash comedy which commenced principal photography in the west of Ireland this week.

Colm Meaney (Con Air) has joined the cast on the Irish-German co-production, which will shoot in and around Sligo for the next five weeks.

Rights to the project have also been acquired in Germany by Koch Media (theatrical) and Telepool (TV) amid strong international interest.

Principal photography on stage play adaptation starring John Hurt has begun.

Erin Richards (Gotham), Sofia Helin (The Bridge) and Max Brown (Agent Carter) have joined John Hurt in the cast of That Good Night, which has begun principal photography on the Algarve coastline of Portugal and will shoot for five weeks.

Gsp Studios is behind the film adaptation of the late N.J. Crisp’s 1996 stage play of the same name. Gsp Studios International is also handling worldwide sales.

That Good Night, which derives its name from the Dylan Thomas poem, follows Ralph (Hurt), a famed screenwriter coming to terms with his impending death. As he does so, he resolves to attempt two final missions in life; to be reconciled to his long-lost son (Brown), and to ensure he doesn’t become a burden to his wife Anna (Helin) with his slow decline, by hiring a mysterious “visitor” to help him pass painlessly.
