An underwater adventure set in the near future, a married couple is setting out to try and converse with some whales. But all does not go as planned. This is a short film that does an excellent job of getting you quickly interested in the two main characters. It is well acted, well written, suspenseful, but not over the top with great special effects. This is a film I would consider "PG", but pretty close to "G".
Overall production value is excellent and a very polished film from a up and coming company called "Future Dude". Looking forward to the 90 minute follow-up that will hopefully answer all the questions raised by "Act One".

Too long, too boring, badly acted and lacking drive and especially story. Giving it 2 stars because of Bruce Davidson and Malcom McDowell for the computer voice. Don't make any more episodes, it would be a crime on humans and whales!
I just watched this abomination on DUST (YouTube). It was given (suspiciously) high praises for some reason, and it appears the audience thinks it's brand new and was just released.
There is only one good thing about this film: It's only 30 minutes.
I look at the reviews, and read things like ''great cast'', ''compelling story'', ''I can't wait for the rest!'' and blah blah blah.
First off, there is a cast of THREE, of which one is only on screen for 70 seconds, and says like 5 lines, and those 5 lines were not even good.
The storyline COULD be good, but only if these people are not allowed anywhere near the production - except for the CGI team(s) and set artists. They actually did a fantastic job, and considering this is 7 years old it fooled everyone into thinking it was just made this year. So, kudos to those teams.
As for the rest.... you don't deserve such great CGI and set design teams, and I hope those teams have all been given good projects to work on since, because they are above par and I'd love to see what they are capable of with an actual worthwhile production.

A great start to the next great saga, Act One kicks it all off in grand style. Showing you just enough of the future to peak your interest, Act One lays the character foundations for a rich operatic story of future survival in a world set alight. Oceanus is the fresh idea us sci-fi fans have been waiting for made all the better to have been birthed by an up and coming new production company. Keep them on your radar, they are on the way up.
This is a great beginning of a more feature rich production that I could almost see as a series. Keep it OUT of the hands of ScyFy network though or it will become cheap.
This is great stuff, the mini act 1 will leave you complaining that the rest is not there to immediately go out and enjoy.
I was hooked at the middle point of the act... and found myself counting down the minutes wondering where this short would end and how it might end. I hope they release something more... if not, I will be creating plot and narrative in my sleep for years to come. Please bring the rest to us... this is great stuff.
