Excellent movie, but for people in Costa Rica

If you are from Costa Rica or got to know Costa Rica pretty well, themovie is quite funny and understandable. Otherwise, most of the plot is not interesting.

The four comedians named "La Media Docena" (Edgar, Mario, Erick and Daniel) are well known in the country, for they have been for several years in Costa Rican theaters and more recently in TV, in a half-an-hour program named after the group, made up of shorts about several fictional characters, each with peculiar features. Their clean gags, usually free from sexual contents, have awarded them wide national acknowledgement.

"Maikol Yordan" is also part of their characters, a peasant looking downtown (San José) for any job available; his naïveté makes him ask for specialized jobs he knows nothing of, thus developing absurd conversations. Those talks often include puns only Costa Rican people would understand, as they refer about regionalisms, everyday chat or fashion topics in Costa Rica. The movie also relates to them, thus confusing foreigners.

In short, my vote is 10/10 as the movie was addressed to Costa Rican people, highlights traditions and provides lots of funny situations Ticos are familiar with.

And as hurtful as it may be for my Costa Rican ego, the movie most probably won't have the massive support it had in Costa Rica, placing it as the most seen movie ever in Costa Rican cinemas.

    Excellent movie

Excellent movie, which portrays the importance of life, the value of your piece of land and fight without knowing where you are to fight for what you believe.

It is important when a movie, motivates and moves people of different ages, social Estaus, was a film that has been demonstrated to do a movie with good songs if you can, with values and especially with national quality, we will not be one country making movies, but when venturing with work and dedication can do miracles.

The work of the Media Docena guys is very good and we are waiting for new adventures of Maykol :)

    Made in Costa Rica. !!!

It's not what your friends might say about it

I saw it because my friends said it was a really good movie, but at the end is very disappointment. Long jokes, the lack of creativity and fluidity in the script makes this movie a bad one. During the development of the movie you will see La Media Docena's flat humor and possibly offensive stereotypes, like countryside people is dumb. Even actors like Adal Ramones (México) had a flat, emotionless script and acting. You will see the Maikol Jordan character from the Media Docena regular show, travel through a series of situations when he tries to keep his farm from a big businessman that wants to take it from them. If you are not from Costa Rica, you might not understand any of the jokes. If you are a Costa Rican and like good jokes, you will not like this movie.

    Cheap Costarrican movie gone right!

Watched it twice at the movies and really enjoyed it.If you are Latino or Costarrican background you will find this movie very funny. It has a lot of Costarrican slang references so I think most people in other countries won't understand it. The story is about a farmer who goes to the city to find a new job, with no luck he ends up back in his farm where he wins a trip to Europe and that's where the story gets better because he doesn't know anything about the real world, nobody seems to get him and he gets in a lot of trouble. It's been in the movies here in Costa Rica for over a month and it has reached over 500.000 sold tickets. Overall it's a low budget movie, but it will keep you entertained. The characters are funny and well developed. Give it a chance, they did a very good job!

    A very long comedy sketch

The lighthearted family comedy by "La Media Docena" is overshadowed by simplistic storytelling and stereotypical one dimensional characters.

This movie is strictly targeted to "ticos", anyone else might not be able relate or even endure the long treacherous journey.

The plot revolves around Maikol Yordan trying to save his property from being taken by a major "evil" corporation, yet Maikol lacks any meaningful development throughout the film. His only mission is to serve one liners and local humor whenever the camera centers on him, which is ninety percent of the film.

The light comedy tone helps to mask some atrocious acting that most secondary actors suffer, some of them barely make an effort to read their lines (Judge and Maikol's father) as if a teleprompter was in front of them.

It's a shame that even with some great actors such as Anabelle Ulloa (Maikol's grandmother) and the iconic comedian Adal Ramones, the film falls flat and dull.

Yet this review might be meaningless for those who watch the film, since the target audience will be satisfied with mediocre humor and fan service they are accustomed to.
