Cineverse and Lloyd Braun’s venture firm Banyan have teamed to launch MicroCo, a micro-drama studio and streaming platform, with TV industry vets Jana Winograde and Susan Rovner set for top exec roles.
MicroCo, whose consumer-facing brand identity will be announced at a later date, is a 50-50 joint venture between the companies, described as a purpose-built supplier of mobile-first series. While the broad heading of “short form” encompasses everything from confessional TikToks to viral YouTube Shorts, micro-drama is more specific and the category has gained considerable traction internationally. The top five micro-drama services in Asia racked up a collective 150 million monthly active users by the beginning of 2025, Deadline recently reported.
The global market is projected to be headed for $10 billion outside China by 2027, the companies said in their announcement. Hispanic media giants Univision and Telemundo have each announced initiatives around “micro-novelas” in recent months. No premium U.S. outlet...

Here at Dread Central, our Digital Features give us the chance to spotlight the creators, projects, and talent pushing horror in bold new directions. These profiles let us delve deeper into the genre stories we can’t stop thinking about. Today, we’re reflecting inward to highlight a film produced by our parent company, Epic Pictures, and Jeremy Rudd, the emerging filmmaker behind Die’ced: Reloaded, an especially blood-soaked debut.
When Jeremy Rudd first sat down to write the script for what would become Die’ced, he had never written a screenplay before. He’d never edited a film, color graded a frame, or mixed sound. But in the isolation of 2020, he figured—why not try? Five years later, his debut feature has been remixed and reimagined as Die’ced: Reloaded, a bigger, bolder, bloodier, and more polished take on his original vision, out on VOD now from Epic Pictures and Dread Presents.

August has officially become the end of summer and the beginning of Halloween in the eyes of many horror fans. This is in large part because Spirit Halloween is starting to open its doors across the country in the next couple of weeks. They'll be taking over the haunting corpses of former retailers like Toys "R" Us, Bed, Bath and Beyond, and Joann. If they see an abandoned building, they're most likely going to possess it. Now, ahead of the spooky season, Spirit Halloween’s new video game is getting a wider release.
Spirit Halloween’s retro-style video game Haunted: Halloween ‘86 will be coming to Nintendo Switch and Xbox. It's already available to purchase on Steam. This side-scrolling throwback beat ‘em up was originally released earlier this year on a vintage Nes-inspired cartridge and system. It was to honor the halfway to Halloween point in the spring. An evil little cutie pie has spotted you from across the bar and digs your vibe. Who is the menacing presence with pitch black eyes and a smile to die for? Well, it’s none other than the titular baddie from The Jester 2, and today, we’re excited to debut an exclusive image from the film as part of Collider’s Exclusive Preview event, during which we’re celebrating the most eagerly anticipated films of the fall.
The shot in question is a close-up of the goofiest ghoul of them all, as the Jester can be seen flashing his award-winning smile and showing off his truly disgusting set of pearly whites — or, in his case, decaying chompers. Rocking a purple suit as only a creature with his charisma could, the sadistic maniac poses with his head in his hands, which are covered with a pair of white gloves that could use a good bleaching.

Alison Brie and Dave Franco could play it safe. With their combined star power, sharp comedic timing, and proven mainstream appeal, it would be easy to coast on crowd-pleasers and prestige fare. But the real-life couple has always gravitated toward the offbeat, the challenging, and the creatively unhinged. That instinct has never been more apparent than in Together, the thoughtfully nauseating, cup-your-mouth-and-point-at-the-screen body horror freak-show that’s quickly become one of the most talked-about horror films of the year. As both stars and producers, Brie and Franco throw themselves headfirst into a visceral exploration of love, rot, and identity—proving once again that their creative risks are anything but performative.
In this month’s Dread Central digital cover story, the duo opens up about putting it all on display for Together, and the risks involved with their critically acclaimed new body horror freakshow. A horror film about the toxic powers...

In the independent film community, few names are as iconic as Troma Entertainment, the famously scrappy production company behind films like The Toxic Avenger and Class of Nuke ‘Em High. The company’s latest film, Occupy Cannes, is a documentary following the Troma Team as they headed to Cannes in 2013 to promote the premiere of Return to Nuke ‘Em High Vol. 1, only to run into opposition from the establishment… and the authorities.
Timed to the film’s 2025 Fantasia International Film Festival world premiere, FandomWire got the opportunity to speak with Occupy Cannes director Lily-Hayes Kaufman and its subjects, legendary Troma Entertainment founder Lloyd Kaufman and Return to Nuke ‘Em High and Terrifier actress Catherine Corcoran, about the future of independent film in the face of increasing restrictions. Terrifier 3took the horror world by storm when it was released last fall. The blood-soaked unrated slasher sequel from director Damien Leone had the extra novelty of being a Christmas movie. That allowed the famous killer Art the Clown do his best Santa Claus cosplay as he ruined the holiday season for everyone. Now, ahead of Terrifier 4, Santa Art has returned with a scary new animatronic from Spirit Halloween.
A part of the popular Halloween retailers’ franchise animatronic line, this Art the Clown stands at a menacing 6 feet 3 inches tall and comes armed with a deadly axe –just like the traumatizing opening scene of Terrifier 3. Art’s Santa suit is also covered in blood, especially where his “jolly” beard is concerned. His arms wave back and forth and includes audio from the third film. One of the examples is the original song “It's a Terrifier Christmas.” If that wasn't enough,...

Since Beetlejuice Beetlejuice released last fall, it seems like every week fans have been getting a new piece of merchandise to add to their Neitherworld collection. The long-awaited Tim Burton sequel starring Michael Keaton was a major critical and box office success, which could easily explain the Beetlejuice-Mania we’re all currently living in. However, Burton’s gothic world fits perfectly with our nostalgic toy market. Now, with a third film in doubt, Mezco Toyz has just unveiled their new Beetlejuice figures.

Terrifier’s Art the Clown has become a horror legend this past decade. His trilogy thus far has been one of the goriest in recent memory, and the Damien Leone-created slasher brand will soon be ending with Terrifier 4. Leone is currently writing the film, but a ton of pop culture-centric companies have been passing the time with killer Art collectibles. Now Mezco Toyz is joining the demented fun with their new Terrifier figure.
A part of Mezco's nostalgic 5 Points toy line, their latest 3.75-inch scale figure is Art the Clown. This now-iconic psycho is seen in his standard black-and-white clown costume. However, you can't have an Art figure without a weapon, and Mezco has armed this killer jester with a deadly bull whip of torture. The Little Pale Girl is also included in this set. Terrifier now joins Batman (1989), Batman: The Animated Series, and Christmas Vacation in Mezco’s 5 Points collection.

Universal Destinations and Experiences has rounded out its Halloween Horror Nights 2025 lineup with two pop‑culture heavyweights, confirming haunted houses based on Five Nights at Freddy’s and WWE’s Wyatt Sicks for both its Orlando and Hollywood parks starting 29 August and 4 September respectively. The announcement, made 29 July, extends a season that runs through 2 November and now features ten mazes in Florida and nine in California.

The killer Santa is back. Over forty years since it first outraged audiences and delighted horror fans, Silent Night, Deadly Night is being reimagined for a new generation. Slated to open in US cinemas on 12 December 2025, the remake stars Halloween Ends actor Rohan Campbell in the role of Billy Chapman, the traumatised orphan turned axe-wielding Christmas avenger.
Directed and written by Wrong Turn’s Mike P. Nelson, the new film arrives via Cineverse, whose recent output includes the Terrifier franchise. The teaser trailer, released over Comic-Con weekend, leans heavily into the retro slasher aesthetic of its predecessor, while promising a slick, modern approach to the festive carnage.
The original Silent Night, Deadly Night, released in 1984, caused a national controversy due to its marketing, which prominently featured a killer dressed as Father Christmas. Despite being pulled from theatres after just one week, the low-budget shocker became a cult success, earning $2.5 million and spawning four sequels.

WWE and Five Nights at Freddy’s are the latest properties joining this year’s bone-chilling Halloween Horror Nights house lineup.
Initially teased in June by Jason Blum during the Blumhouse 15th anniversary panel at Ccxp Mexico and then by Hhn social accounts, the Five Nights at Freddy’s experience will see guests fighting to stay alive as they navigate a house based on the 2023 film, adapted from Scott Cawthon’s wildly popular horror game of the same name. The last few years have been an incredible ride for horror fans. From the bloodlust gore of the Terrifier franchise, to Robert Eggers’ chillingly atmospheric Nosferatu, and Oz Perkins’ double-feature of Longlegs and The Monkey, those seeking something to make the nights a little darker have been on the ultimate winning streak. Now, Zach Cregger is following up his rug-pull turn with Barbarian with another movie that is about to change the face of horror again – Weapons. First reactions to the movie were good, and now the movie’s Rotten Tomatoes score has landed with a perfect 100% result, setting up what could be the best horror movie of the year.
Cregger took a little time after the release of his 2022 movie to work on the animated comedy, Mars, and produced the sci-fi smash, Companion, but with Weapons he has come back to an arena that he clearly excels in. One...

The Toxic Avenger is a movie that many people believed would never see light of day. Despite being completed almost two years, the film has sat in limbo, throwing out small teasers, trailers and images to let everyone know it still exists. However, now, the movie is ready to unleash its insane, gory madness on the world in just over a month’s time. But what made director Macon Blair choose Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage for the lead role of this remake of the classic Troma Entertainment property? Simply, he likes him.
During a short interview at San Diego Comic-Con, Blair was asked his reasons for making Dinklage the star of his movie by The Hollywood Reporter, to which he replied:
“I just like working with people that I like, and [have] senses of humor, and if I have had a good time with them in the past, I like to keep it going.

With Ick hitting theaters this weekend, we recently caught up with director Joseph Kahn (Bodied; Torque) to talk about his latest monster movie that blends classic creature-feature thrills with a modern twist.
In the film, Kahn explores the chaos unleashed by a mysterious entity known as the Ick. The synopsis reads, "For almost two decades, a viscous vine-like growth known colloquially as “The Ick” has benignly crept into every nook and cranny of American life while the residents of small town Eastbrook remain blasé about its existence. The exceptions are former high school football star-turned-hapless science teacher Hank and his sardonically perceptive student Grace who are thrown together by Grace’s mom Staci’s closely-guarded secret and a mutual suspicion that the Ick is about to unleash some monstrous mayhem."

"Let AMC Reach Out To Me": Shudder's $10M Clown Slasher Hit Gets A Major Sequel Update From Director
Speaking at San Diego Comic-Con, Clown in a Cornfield director Eli Craig addressed the possibility of making a sequel film. The 2025 horror film is based on the 2020 novel by Adam Cesare. The plot focuses on a young woman named Quinn who moves into a small town with her father, only to discover that it is being haunted by a terrifying clown.
The film version of Clown in a Cornfield featured a leading cast including Katie Douglas, Aaron Abrams, Carson MacCormac, Vincent Muller, Will Sasso, and Kevin Durand. It was released in May of this year and made $10.7 million on an estimated $1 million budget.
In an interview with ScreenRant at Sdcc, Craig speaks about whether he would adapt more of Cesare's novels. In response to a potential Clown in a Cornfield sequel, the director said, "let Shudder make the decision." That said, he seemed confident that the sequels could have strong content.

FIlmmaker Osgood Perkins is delivering his next horror movie later this year. To tease its arrival, an eerie teaser trailer has just been released.
From Neon, Keeper is slated for a release on Nov. 14, 2025. For Perkins, it's a follow-up to The Monkey, the Stephen King adaptation the filmmaker released earlier this year. Perkins is also known for helming Longlegs, last year's horror thriller starring Nicolas Cage as a serial killer. Now, fans can see what he's got up his sleeve next by checking out the new trailer for Keeper below.
There's still a lot that's not known about Keeper, which is being touted as a "dark trip from Osgood Perkins," and the teaser doesn't exactly share a lot of info about the plot. It does feature some shots of the movie's various characters, and the imagery seems to get increasingly more disturbing. A woman can be heard saying close to the end of the video,...

Slasher movies really only need to satisfy one base requirement. While I consider myself among those whose appreciation for the slasher form goes beyond body counts—they are art—I am also a realist. In the purest form, part of the reason I and so many others sign up in the first place is to see a masked killer slaughter goofy coeds in increasingly goofy ways. We want to see Jason Voorhees harpoon Friday the 13th: Part 3’s best character and Michael Myers blow Bradford English’s head up in the laundry room. That’s where the money is, baby. Mostly. Hot off the success of Scream, writer Kevin William’s previously written adaptation of Lois Duncan’s I Know What You Did Last Summer was fast-tracked. The film’s release in October 1997 was met with a critical shrug, often compared to a lesser man’s, well, Scream. Not so.

Maggie Gyllenhaal’s take on The Brideis one project that has all eyes on it. In years gone by the horror genre has spoilt fans for choices be it big productions like Sinners, Nosferatu, franchises like Scream, Terrifier, or small independent sub-genre films like Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey. Overall, there’s an elevation in storytelling, visuals, and characterization that have hooked fans, who’ll not settle for anything less now. In a new interview, The Bride actor Peter Sarsgaard opened up about the “controversial” nature of the film starring Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale in lead roles.

Running Bloody Disgusting at a time when the horror genre is exploding at the seams with New Things To Report is a good problem to have, but it’s also a hell of a lot of work. And it can admittedly be frustrating hopping from one story to the next in an attempt to keep up, leaving us with little time to inject our opinions into the daily news stories we’re posting.
So as the Editor-in-Chief of Bloody Disgusting, I wanted to start taking an hour or so every week to Slow Down on a Friday afternoon and recap some of the most interesting news stories that you might’ve scrolled past in the last several days. I also wanted to take a moment to actually share my thoughts on some of this stuff, which I often have precious little time to really do during these increasingly hectic weeks.

"Terrifier" villain Art the Clown has come a long way since his humble origins in the indie horror anthology film "All Hallows' Eve." These days, he's a bona fide box office draw, as the "Terrifier" movie series can't stop passing box office milestones -- an impressive accomplishment when you consider that the films have a reputation for making audience members physically sick in theaters. That said, the evil clown's influence is growing, as "Terrifier" is the latest horror franchise to receive its own Halloween Horror Nights maze at Universal Studios. Suffice it to say, there will be blood.
The event, which opens at the Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood on August 29, 2025, and September 4, respectively, promises to be one of Universal's goriest outings to date. “This year we continue the new tradition of pitting the second half of last year with the first half of this year in a cage match of cinematic carnage,” Phil Nobile Jr., Fangoria Eic, said in a statement. “Like the Grammys, but gorier. It’s made for a rather chaotic list of nominees, and we expect the voting to be vicious and voluminous.”
“Sinners” and “The Substance” each earned 10 nominations, competing in the same categories for best wide release, best cinematography, best score, best director, best screenplay, best costume design, and best lead and supporting performances. Nominations also include “Strange Darling,” Cuckoo,” “The Ugly Stepsister,” 28 Years Later” and “Longlegs.” Other categories include best streaming premiere, best kill and best creature FX.

Sharks have come a long way in the last 50 years. Back in my day, a person would have to be swimming in the ocean to get eaten up by a shark but those days are no more! In Morihito Inoue’s goofy gory Hot Spring Shark Attack, nothing can stop these aquatic killing machines. Fresh water, salt water, plumbing pipes, pavement(!) – the sharks in Hot Spring Shark Attack can swim, squirm, and conjure their way through literally anything. And they only thing stopping them from chomping their way through the entire city is a dedicated marine biologist, an out-of-his-depth mayor, a mysterious semi-superhero muscleman, and a grizzled street cop who shoots the words “No Swimming” into the beach sand...

It's common knowledge in a horror movie that you never split up, things will go bump in the night, and that you need to watch out for monsters or intruders hiding under the bed. In the new spooky screenlife flickDon't Log Off, however, Ariel Winter writes off belief in those tropes as just a sign that someone consumes too much scary content. Ahead of the film's release on July 11, Collider can share an exclusive sneak peek that sees the Modern Family star exploring the home she's in after a few ominous occurrences leave her feeling like she's not alone. As she investigates a noise, her friends on a video call watch in suspense and give her advice to avoid becoming the night's first victim.
Don't Log Off follows a group of friends who begin digging into their friend Sam's disappearance after she mysteriously vanishes during her birthday video call. Though they start their search online,...

The slasher sub-genre has seen a host of scary new icons in the 2020s. However, none have taken the genre quite by storm like Art the Clown fromTerrifier. The franchise, created by writer-director Damien Leone, has become one of the biggest indie horror franchises of all-time, with the next installment being right around the blood-soaked corner. Now, before Terrifier 4 makes moviegoers scream, Funko has unveiled their latest horrific Pop for the murderous franchise.
Based on Terrifier 2, Funko's latest horror Pop sees a blood-covered Art the Clown handing out candy on Halloween night. However, in classic Art fashion, he's seen using a severed head as a candy bowl. This figure isn't for the faint of heart to say the least. It's rare for Funko to use one of their classic headmolds in such a brutal way, but it's authentic to this unrated slasher sequel. Besides the second head, there's...

We're halfway through 2025, and it's already been another stellar year for the horror genre. A ton of major franchises have returned, like Final Destination and M3GAN. However, when it comes to modern horror, there's no series as big as The Conjuring. The James Wan-created nightmare franchise has been successfully scaring moviegoers for over a decade, but The Conjuring: Last Ritesis set to be the final chapter for Ed and Lorraine Warren this fall. Before the main series comes to a horrifying close, though, you can now own one of The Conjuring’s most iconic demons.
Spirit Halloween just unveiled its 2025 wave of spooky animatronics, with Valak the Demon Nun being the centerpiece this year. The menacing decoration stands at five feet, eight inches tall. On top of that, “Valak’s arms open outward, and head lifts up as she lunges toward you for a realistic quick scare action. Eerie bell,...
