The only thing familiar with this film is that veteran actor Nedumudi Venu plays the main character in this heist drama. I watched the film with no expectations and it turned out to be a decent story, which if executed well, would have made a better film.
The story is about four friends who rob a bank and flee from Kerala to Tamil Nadu. On their way, they meet a gamer (Venu), who without their knowledge is playing a game against them. He starts wrecking the relation among the friends in an attempt to take away the robbed moolah. Sketched as a dangerous murderer, the film follows his attempts at fooling the four unsuspecting robbers.
The film is an unpolished product, which means that you will often find cringe-worthy sequences that confirms how rookie the filmmaker and his crew are. But, the story makes for an interesting and slightly nail-biting experience as the audience get eager to find out what happens. With a climax so broad-minded and attached to reality, Gamer is a good try.
Performances are average, and so is the whole affair. But they are a lot better than mindless films that Malayalam industry is churning out on a weekly basis.
BOTTOM LINE: Not the best movie of the year, but definitely qualifies to be in the ones that are watchable. Go ahead!
