As we’ve mentioned before, Kevin Smith’s Dogma was recently freed from intellectual rights purgatory where it’s been trapped by real life poop-demon Harvey Weinstein for the past several decades. Now, Smith is able to, not only re-release the film, but to sequelize it as well. And he plans to do just that.
Smith made the big announcement at this past weekend’s Vulture Festival, suggesting that Dogma 2 would feature Matt Damon and Ben Affleck returning as fallen angels Bartleby and Loki, pleasing fans who long to see the pair together in a movie that isn’t a glorified sneaker commercial.
During his talk, Smith did explain that he hadn’t actually locked the superstar BFFs down just yet, but he didn't foresee that being a big problem since they owed big time him for A) getting Good Will Hunting made, and B) forgetting to thank him while...

Director Kevin Smith provides an update on the possibility of making Mallrats 2, a follow-up to his 90s cult classic. Written and directed by Smith, Mallrats was released in 1995 as the follow-up to his wildly successful comedy classic Clerks, and starred Jason Lee, Jeremy London, Shannen Doherty, Michael Rooker, and Claire Forlani. While the movie was not a box office success, it was popular on home video, and, like its predecessor, went on to develop a cult following.
In an interview with Deadline, Smith discusses the possibility of making Mattrats 2. The Chasing Amy director and New Jersey native previously planned to make the movie before Clerks III, even at one point announcing a 10-episode Mallrats TV show that never materialized. Speaking of his continued desire to see a Mallrats sequel, the 54-year-old discusses the challenges of getting the movie made with Universal, and his desire to make it independently. Check out Smith's comments below:

The 4:30 Movie, the sixteenth feature film from director Kevin Smith, is now in theatres (you can read a review by JoBlo’s own Alex Maidy at This Link), and to mark the occasion we have decided to look back over Smith’s entire directing career and assemble a list of Kevin Smith Movies Ranked, from #16 to #1. This list doesn’t represent everything Smith has done; you won’t find movies he did uncredited rewrites on (like Overnight Delivery) or wrote for someone else to direct (Jay & Silent Bob’s Super Groovy Cartoon Movie), or even the segment he contributed to the anthology horror film Holidays. For this list, we’re only covering the features that had him at the helm. And here we go…

It’s been 30 whole years since the release of Clerks, and Kevin Smith’s breakout slacker duo Jay and Silent Bob are still popping up in movies, TV shows and the occasional Degrassi-themed rap video.
At the end of last year, Smith revealed that he’s currently writing yet another Jay and Silent Bob movie, a follow-up to 2019’s Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, which starred Smith, Jason Mewes and every working actor in Smith’s phone contacts.
While not much is known about the movie at this point, Smith recently took to Instagram to share a photo of one of the upcoming sequel’s props — an evil book, bound in human flesh, that resembles Silent Bob’s tortured face.
Obviously the prop is a facsimile of the Necronomicon from the Evil Dead series, just with a beard and a backwards baseball cap. Smith joked that it is “The...

Kevin Smith has stayed busy in recent years, from releasing the long-awaited "Clerks III" in 2022 to his upcoming '80s-set "The 4:30 Movie." This is to say nothing of the movie theater he co-owns in New Jersey, his several podcasts, live shows, and working on "Masters of the Universe" for Netflix. The man isn't slowing down 30 years into his career, to be certain. Now, he's gearing up for a third "Jay and Silent Bob" movie, one that will pick up in the aftermath of 2019's "Jay and Silent Bob Reboot." While much remains mysterious, it appears as though Smith might be returning to the horror genre for this one.
The director recently took to Instagram to share a sneak peek at the upcoming flick in the form of a prop called The NecroBobicon. This is a riff on The Necronomicon, which has been featured in the "Evil Dead" franchise since...

"Tusk" was a theatrical experience that I will never forget. The trailer did not give much away, and it was difficult to tell whether Kevin Smith was aiming for parody or serious horror. Was this really about someone being held captive by a seaman with an affinity for walruses? The idea for "Tusk" began with a SModcast episode where Smith and his friend/producer Scott Mosier poked fun at a classified advertisement made by a homeowner who offered free lodging to someone if they dressed as a walrus for two hours a day. The strange, real-life story inspired a brainstorming session about how they might bring the story to life on film.
"I could have easily just been like, 'Oh, that was a stupid stoner idea that I won't follow through on,' but, I don't know, there seemed to be a lot of nobility in taking a stoner idea...

Filmmaker Kevin Smith has a legacy sequel to Bad News Bears that's high atop his wish list. Smith, who rose to fame after his indie comedy Clerks became a big hit in 1994, has directed a variety of films, recently getting back behind the camera for Clerks III. Having gone back to his roots, Smith is working on the horror-comedy film Moose Jaws, a story that the filmmaker describes as "like Jaws but with a moose instead of a shark."
As for what's after Moose Jaws, perhaps that could be a new sequel to The Bad News Bears directed by Smith. While speaking about classic films he'd like to see rebooted on his podcast Fat Man Beyond (per ComicBook.com), Smith mentioned The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension and The Shadow as fun possibilities. But what he wants to see most of all, even hoping to direct such a reboot himself,...

HBO's controversial new drama The Idol is being led by actor and model Lily-Rose Depp, who plays struggling pop star Jocelyn. The series follows Jocelyn as she tries to revamp her career after a mental health crisis, and along the way, begins a troublesome relationship with a creepy club owner and cult leader. While Depp has appeared in various feature films and is known for being the daughter of actor Johnny Depp, there are still many questions about who she is and what she does in this series.
The Idol was first announced as a new series being created by Abel "The Weeknd" Tesfaye, Sam Levinson, and Reza Fahim in June 2021. That September Lily-Rose Depp joined The Idol cast as the female lead opposite Tesfaye. The series was given six episodes and began filming at the end of 2021. Kevin Smith has detailed his latest health scare, revealing that earlier this year, he suffered a “complete break from reality”–and no, he’s not talking about writing a fourth Clerks.
On his mental health, Kevin Smith told People that he had a breakdown in January, even hinting at some seriously dark thoughts that went through his mind. “At that moment, I wouldn’t have been averse to not being around any longer. I called a friend and said, ‘I’m in a weird, dark place. I need to go somewhere and get help.’”
As a result, Kevin Smith checked himself into a treatment center to get professional help for his health. He also reflected on his time attending therapy sessions, although he initially felt a bit guilty since he was in a group that included people suffering from Ptsd. “In the beginning, it was tough to share when somebody...

Check it out, then let us know what Kevin Smith movies you most want to see by leaving a comment.
Mallrats 2
Smith’s 1995 film Mallrats wasn’t a box office success, but that hasn’t stopped talk of a sequel coming up here and there over the years – whether it would be a “Die Hard in a Mall” scenario, a limited series, or something completely different. The problem is that Mallrats is a Universal property, so Smith can’t do anything with it unless the studio is on board.

After his heart attack in 2018, Kevin Smith isn't even supposed to be here today — but boy, are we glad he still is! The New Jersey native with the gift of the gab has spent the better part of the past three decades willing his whimsy into reality. They say write about what you know, and Smith has made a solid career out of doing precisely that, much to the adoration of his die-hard fans across the globe.
It's more than that though. As one of the original indie filmmakers of the early '90s, Smith proved that anyone could make a movie. While Quentin Tarantino splattered us with blood and Wes Anderson perfected immaculate shots, Smith seemed like one of us — just a regular guy, with a regular life, who loved dissecting the big issues of the day like movies, TV, and the logistics of building a Death Star.

Last week, Justin Long mentioned that Kevin Smith had recently gotten in contact with him, Haley Joel Osment, and Genesis Rodriguez – his co-stars in Smith’s 2014 horror film Tusk (watch it Here) – to let them know that a sequel to Tusk is in their future. After Long’s quote made the news rounds, Smith took the opportunity to confirm his Tusk sequel plans on an episode of Fatman Beyond, the podcast he hosts with Marc Bernardin. Although Smith has previously said he intended to put Long and Rodriguez’s Tusk characters in his killer moose movie Moose Jaws, the sequel he’s planning is not Moose Jaws. It is indeed a Tusk 2… or, as Smith is calling it Tusks. But the S at the end is a dollar sign: Tusk.

The 2014 horror film Tusk (watch it Here) was meant to be the first installment in what writer/director Kevin Smith was calling his “True North Trilogy”, to be followed by Yoga Hosers – which did get made – and the killer moose movie Moose Jaws – which we’re still waiting for. But in late 2020, Smith said he had an idea for a Tusk 2 as well… and according to Tusk star Justin Long, it sounds like he’s ready to start pushing the sequel idea toward production.
Speaking with Slash Film, Long said,
You’ll be happy to hear, Kevin just announ– I mean, I guess they’re talking about it. They’re doing Tusk 2, I think. … He texted us all the other day, Haley [Joel Osment] and Genesis [Rodriguez], and he told us that he wanted to do it, and I thought it was a joke. Kevin Smith is still intent on making Moose Jaws, but it won't feature Jay and Silent Bob. Smith has long had his sights set on making this movie since 2015, which has been described simply as "Jaws, but with a moose." Recently, Smith revealed that the project may have found new life and he is now doing a rewrite on the script. A big part of that is removing his trademark duo from the movie entirely.
The Clerks filmmaker was recently a guest on Jake Hamilton's YouTube show. During the interview, Kevin Smith was asked what he's been up to during the quarantine. As Smith explains, he wants Moose Jaws to stand on its own, which means pulling Jay and Silent Bob out. Here's what he had to say about it.

Mallrats 2, officially titled Twilight of the Mallrats, is one of the next projects that Kevin Smith is working on following the release of last year's Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. Now, the filmmaker has shared more details on his long-gestating sequel. Specifically, how the return of T.S. and Brodie will be shaped by current events.
The information came during the latest episode of Kevin Smith's podcast FatMan Beyond. Harley Quinn Smith is the daughter of Clerks director Kevin Smith. While that may have been her introduction to showbiz, the younger Smith has very much made her own way and has started to carve out her own, unique career. But that doesn't mean she can't find time to work with her dad these days. Such is the case with Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, which unites the Smiths in the View Askewniverse.
Previously, Harley Quinn Smith starred in Tusk and Yoga Hosers, both directed by her dad. But here, she's acting alongside Kevin Smith's Silent Bob and Jason Mewes' Jay, which is new. To make things even more interesting, the young Smith plays Milly, who happens to be the daughter of Jay.

That includes Grant Gustin, who plays Barry Allen/The Flash, Tom Cavanagh, who portrays Harrison Wells and Carlos Valdes, who plays Carlos Ramon on The CW series.
Kevin Smith didn't reveal any specific details about their casting at the present time. So we don't know who exactly any of The Flash gang will be playing in the upcoming entry in the View Askew universe. It also isn't totally clear how large their roles will be. Are these merely going to be glorified cameos?...

Remember Moose Jaws? Kevin Smith‘s never-made third entry in his True North trilogy? The project seemed to be dead, but Smith has offered a new update that indicates Moose Jaws might become a reality. Kevin Smith started his True North trilogy back in 2014 with the horror-comedy Tusk. I didn’t care for it, but some people seemed to dig […]

Kevin Smith has updated us on the status of some long-gestating projects. Starting with Moose Jaws, a project that Smith has been working on since 2014 and has been described previously by the director as "Jaws with a moose." The project has been in something of an on again, off again, state for a while, but during a recent live recording of his Fatman on Batman podcast, Smith provided an update on the project during the Q&A portion when a fan inquired about it. Here's what he had to say.
"Moose Jaws, we have money for it. Isn't that crazy? That just happened in the last two weeks and stuff. More when I know, and I'll know very soon."
Apparently, someone has stepped up to finance Moose Jaws, but it's unclear who is putting up the money at this point. The horror comedy has been billed as the finale to the Kevin SmithTrue North trilogy,...

Director Kevin Smith has revealed the first photo from the set of his horror anthology Killroy Was Here. The director started shooting the first installment back in June, working from a script he co-wrote with Andrew McElfresh (White Chicks), who also served as visual effects supervisor on Kevin Smith's Yoga Hosers. While the filmmaker wouldn't offer any details about what scene is being shot in the photo, the filmmaker did comment on this story when the project was first announced in June. Here's what the director had to say below.
"This is a monster movie in the sense of a classic morality tale. No one wants to see you spill the blood of innocents, but when someone crosses the line and goes bad, you get to make them pay in horrible ways, and the audience cheers. We wanted to make an anthology film in the vein of Creepshow. Killroy is like the Golem,...

How a 1994 indie hit from Kevin Smith gave birth to an unlikely franchise...
In 1993, Kevin Smith made a movie. Clerks was shot in black and white over the course of three weeks, at night, in the convenience store where Smith worked during the day, on a shoestring budget of $27,575. Smith funded the film himself by dipping into his savings, selling all his comics and maxing out several credit cards.
Even though it became an indie phenomenon when it was picked up by Bob and Harvey Weinstein's Miramax (who gave it a new soundtrack using a post-production budget that was ten times the cost of principal photography) at the 1994 Sundance Film Festival, it doesn't have 'franchise starter' written all over it.
Long considered a Gen X touchstone, Clerks is a funny and filthy slice of life movie, which equates a working day for Dante Hicks (Brian O'Halloran) to his namesake's Inferno.

Director Kevin Smith is a man juggling many projects all at once. But it looks like he has finally decided on his next feature film. Instead of Mall Rats 2, which by all accounts appears to have been turned into a 10 hour TV show, or the True North trilogy ending thriller Moose Jaws, about a killer moose, he's gong back to the wellspring of his youth. And will literally try to rework that magic with an ode to Clerks he likes to call Jay & Silent Bob Reboot. His plan is to shoot the movie soon.
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back was the culmination of many films featuring the two lead characters, a journey that started in 1994's Clerks which carried over into such films as Mallrats, Chasing Amy and Dogma. It came out in 2001. And was a hit with audiences. Perhaps it's a fan favorite, but nothing was really ever the same after that movie.

The beak. The wings. The whole damn thing. A few months ago, filmmaker Kevin Smith announced that his next movie would be Jay & Silent Bob Reboot, a sequel to his 2001 comedy Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back. Some fans were left somewhat confused, though, since many thought that his next movie would be the conclusion to his True North trilogy, Moose Jaws. As it turns out, the filmmaker isn't abandoning that project at all, taking to Facebook Live earlier today to reveal the first sales artwork for the movie, as it starts to seek funding. Now it seems that this project will come together after Jay & Silent Bob Reboot, which begins production this fall.
Kevin Smith revealed this Moose Jaws artwork during a Facebook Live video, where he explained how he has been "building" the story for awhile, and that his old friend Tony Disanto, who runs a company called Diga, will help the director get financing for this final True North trilogy movie.

Superman Lives, The Green Hornet and sadly now Clerks III: here’s a rundown of the Kevin Smith films we’ll probably never see...
Kevin Smith has always had to fight to get his films off the ground: he started his filmmaking career by maxing out multiple credit cards to self-finance Clerks, and more recently, legend has it, it was only Johnny Depp’s decision to come on board as a wacky supporting character that allowed Smith to secure financing for his walrus-centric horror flick Tusk.
Smith has, across his career, been offered several barmy jobs (he rejected a chance to pen Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian back in the 90s) and he’s also signed up for a lot of projects that never got past the script phase.
The latter camp of could’ve-beens is what we’re talking about today, following that news that Clerks III...

People who keep tabs on the career of jersey and Jersey-loving film auteur Kevin Smith know that there’s basically three versions of him running around at the moment. There’s the one who’s busy working in TV, directing well-received episodes of DC superhero shows like The Flash and Supergirl. There’s weird Canada Kevin Smith, serving up bizarro projects like Tusk, Yoga Hosers, and the planned third part in his True North trilogy, Moose Jaws. And there’s optimistic/nostalgic Kevin Smith, the guy who’s always promising that a sequel to one of his classic films like Clerks or Mallrats is right around the corner, despite the fact that the universe never seems to get on board. Now, that third Smith has a new project, announcing on Facebook that he’s written a script for Jay And Silent Bob Reboot.

Kevin Smith gives an update on Clerks III and Mallrats 2 - and reveals that his next film is a Jay & Silent Bob reunion...
“This is not a drill,” Kevin Smith is going to reimagine Jay and Silent Bob in a new movie.
“My next flick will star @JayMewes and is entitled Jay And Silent Bob Reboot,” Smith wrote to Twitter.
Director Smith, of course, plays Silent Bob, one half of a dope-dealing duo that hung outside the comic book shop in his 1994 movie debut Clerks. As befitting his name, Silent Bob doesn’t have much to say, he leaves that to Jay, played by Jason Mewes. The pair reunited for Mallrats (1995), Chasing Amy (1997), Dogma (1999), and Clerks II (2006) in cameo roles before taking revenge with their own movie, Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back from 2001.

You’re nothing in Hollywood unless you have a million and a half dead projects in your wake. Just look at Guillermo del Toro. The man has no less than 75 of them going on at a time, and almost all of them tend to get pushed to the wayside for one reason or another. Writer/director/podcaster/geek Kevin Smith is no exception to this rule. These past few years have been pretty busy for the creative stoner, In a relatively short amount of time, he’s put a couple films (Tusk and Yoga Hosers), developed even more films that include Moose Jaws, Clerks III and Mallrats 2 — the last of which he tried to turn into a series — and that’s not even including his directing work on shows like The Flash and Supergirl. For a stoner, the man sure knows how to stay productive.

Over the past several years, filmmaker Kevin Smith has been talking about making sequels to his first two films, with Clerks III and Mallrats 2 both being developed extensively. At one point, the Mallrats sequel was going to become a TV show, but today the filmmaker announced that his next project will actually be a remake of his 2001 comedy Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back. The filmmaker announced the news with a lengthy statement on Instagram. Here's the first half of that statement below, where he reveals what happened to both the Clerks III and Mallrats 2 projects.
"This is not a drill! This is an actual image from my laptop! Yes, Kids - @jayandsilentbob are coming back! Here's the story: Sadly, Clerks III can't happen (one of our four leads opted out of the flick). So I worked on a #Mallrats movie instead... which also didn't happen because it turned into a #Mallrats series.

Casual movie fans may not be aware that former wise-ass hero Kevin Smith is currently in the middle of a cinematic trilogy. Even if they know his recent work, they might be more familiar with Yoga Hosers as a movie that got bad reviews at Sundance and may or may not have ever been theatrically released (it was!) than as the second installment of Smith’s planned Canadian-themed “True North” trilogy. Smith, undeterred, has claimed his next two films will be Moose Jaws, the conclusion of the True North trilogy, and Clerks III, a second sequel to his 1994 debut as a writer, director, and part-time actor.

Few filmmakers are better self-promoters than Kevin Smith, who has mastered the art over the course of two decades. Ever since the breakout success of 1994’s “Clerks,” Smith has developed his public persona as a hilarious foul-mouthed geek in tandem with movies that often reflected that sensibility. Today, Smith remains as visible than ever, less because of his movies than because of countless public appearances, a regular podcast, two television series and social media. He’s less pure filmmaker than self-made media machine.
But Smith still makes movies: He took a hiatus after the self-distributed “Red State,” and has since launched into his so-called “True North” trilogy of wacky Canadian tales. After the absurdist comedy-horror of “Tusk,” Smith premiered “Yoga Hosers” at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Thanks to my surprisingly contrarian adoration of Kevin Smith (amongst critics, at least), I sat down for Yoga Hosers filled with curious excitement. One Kevin Smith movie packs more personality than some filmmakers produce over an entire career, and his daddy-daughter feature teased bizarre delicacies beyond Earthly words.
Alas, my take on Smith’s Canadian zero-to-hero nightmare aligns with most other negative views, but it’s still an admirably passionate project that I salute the renegade director for tackling. Smith takes tremendous creative risks every time he pens a script, and sometimes they become Clerks, or Tusk, or Zack And Miri Make A Porno, while other times they’re Yoga Hosers. It’s a numbers game, really.
So – regrettably – let’s get to the not fun part.
Yoga Hosers is a hollow genre mashup that can be best described as Buzzfeed meets Jem And The Holograms meets a neat-enough podcast discussion.

Yoga Hosers, the second of writer-director Kevin Smith’s planned True North trilogy – following up on Tusk and paving the way for Moose Jaws – has premiered an all-new trailer featuring Nazis, cartoonish humor, and Johnny Depp.
Due to land in theaters on July 29, Smith’s zany horror comedy revolves around Lily-Rose Depp and Harley Quinn Smith’s pair of luckless teenagers. As two self-proclaimed yoga fanatics, the duo are left defending their local convenience store Eh-2-Zed from an ancient, fascist evil that awakens from deep beneath the earth. Expect Canadian jokes and punch lines aplenty.

In a world where R-rated movies are a hot topic of discussion, the often vulgar and very R-rated director Kevin Smith has actually been fighting to get a PG-13 rating for his latest horror movie. It was a short fight, though. And no one got hurt. Set to appeal the R rating given to Yoga Hosers, Kevin Smith was awarded a PG-13 without having to appear in front of the MPAA to make his case. The filmmaker behind such gloriously R-Rated movies as Clerks and Mallrats had this to say on Instagram about winning the rating he wanted.

Filmmaker Kevin Smith has won his appeal and managed to secure a PG-13 rating for his upcoming comedy "Yoga Hosers".
The teen girl-targeted film, which premiered at Sundance, initially secured an R rating due to a scene with what Smith describes as "a cartoony drawing of testicles on a book cover". Smith's film was to get an appeals screening tomorrow, but things have changed. According to Smith himself on Instagram:
