I just started watching Turkish horror & I am obsessed! Thanks to NETFLIX I got to watch Dabbe 2 & 6. I was impressed. Then I saw this older gem. Just like English possession movies which uses Christian or Judaism themes, Islamic religious tones used a lot in Turkish horror. The result is mind boggling creepy. The amount of gore is decent & the jump scares are minimal. The acting & storyline are above all that. I do think that the movie ends abruptly, not that its a bad thing but I could use a couple of extra horrifying minutes. When it was stated that they changed the original names of characters, does that mean this is inspired from a real story? But most of these movies claim that. I'm not convinced.. Nah..
You see the movie itself, you do not get bored, but now all the Turkish horror movies are getting tired of seeing similar scenes sometimes ... yes the acting is good but there must be different things ..
Islam, like all other religions, believes too much in other life and forms of spirits.
The film is good, but there is a problem permanently in the horror Turkish movies, It's repeat itself, Repetition of the idea and religious rites.
Cinematography and Performance it's OK, but sound effects is bad. but the idea for me that it is no different from commercial horror films that dealing the same way with the Christian religion
Plot

Verdict
Eager to get my Turkish top 10 movie list to at least it's full ongoing 10 I decided to Google Turkish horror movie and grab the very first one that came up. Siccin was it, and wow it looks like a lengthy franchise! Seven movies I believe at time of writing. Alas the 6 movies I already had on the list suggested that me and Turkey were not on the same page so I went in skeptical, my concerns were quickly justified.
Siccin follows a series of Muslim character primarily a woman done dirty by a guy and the gentleman himself. She goes down a dark route to fulfill her desires and faster than you could say "What could possibly go wrong?" things go dramatically wrong,
Visually the film looks solid for the most part, it's also dark, grim and unsettling. So why the low rating? Well it's also unoriginal, unforgivably boring and devoid of any characters you can root for (Which I deem a common modern problem).
Is this what I can expect going forward? If so binge watching these films will be a frustrating challenge.
Rants
I see people saying that this doesn't put Islam in a very good light but I'd like to remind you movies rarely make religion look good (Except that 3rd Abrahamic religion you're not allowed to say anything bad about). And I'd agree especially as it touches upon the misogyny, spousal abuse and lunatic beliefs that it's renowned for and by "It's" I mean all not just this one.
The Good
Production values are decent
The Bad
Very boring Not exactly original Awful unlikable characters Feels like a chore to watch.
