Image
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning North America Box Office (Closing Collection) Update ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

Mission: Impossible—The Final Reckoning, starring Tom Cruise, finally bids goodbye to the theaters in North America. Tom Cruise’s film exits the cinemas ahead of its digital release. It had an impressive run, but it was still not enough to save it from being a box office debacle compared to the budget. Tom’s charisma and mindblowing stunts also failed to attract the audience enough to make it cross the $200 million milestone domestically. Keep scrolling for the deets.

The movie clashed with the live-action Lilo & Stitch. It was thought that it would not impact the Tom Cruise-starrer, but it seems the film would have done better if released without the clash. Although this was a summer release, it did not benefit much as soon as multiple tentpole movies occupied the theaters. According to reports, the...

‘Manifest: The Complete Series’ Blu-ray Review
Image
Stars: Melissa Roxburgh, Josh Dallas, Athena Karkanis, J.R. Ramirez, Luna Blaise, Jack Messina | Created by Jeff Rake

When you think of supernatural TV dramas in history, several stand out: The X Files, The Twilight Zone, Kolchak: The Night Stalker, Stranger Things, Forever Knight, just to name a few. In 2018, Jeff Rake (Executive Producer of Boston Legal) created a new supernatural drama entitled Manifest. Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, after releasing this series on DVD a few years ago, have decided to give this series an upgrade release with the complete series on Blu-ray.

During a transoceanic journey, Montego Air Flight 828 disappears, presumed lost at sea. Five years later, the plane lands safely – but for those on board, only five hours have passed. Both a high-concept mystery and a relationship drama about interrupted lives, Manifest centers on the supernaturally fractured bonds between the survivors and their loved ones who’ve spent years moving on without them.

‘Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning’ Has Come to a Halt Just Before Hitting 3 Box Office Milestones
Image
After nearly three full months of release in theaters worldwide, Paramount's Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning is ready to conclude its run. The mega-budget action sequel serves as the eighth installment of the blockbuster franchise, which began three decades ago with Tom Cruise at its center. The Final Reckoning was sold as the last installment of the series, which had started to show signs of age towards the end. For instance, despite being two of the most expensive films ever made, neither Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning nor The Final Reckoning was able to cross the $600 million mark worldwide.

Dead Reckoning concluded its run with around $570 million worldwide, against a reported budget of $300 million. The Final Reckoning, on the other hand, was even more expensive; it cost a reported $400 million, thanks to unexpected production delays and a constantly evolving script. Cruise's longtime collaborator, Christopher McQuarrie, was back...

‘F1’s Global Box Office Swerves Past Tom Cruise’s $300 Million Misfire
Image
Mainly because it’s still playing exclusively in theaters, combined with the fact that it hasn’t been given a streaming release date yet, Apple’s F1is charging towards unexpected new heights at the box office. The movie was never expected to do as well as it has, especially considering the ceiling for tech giant-produced movies in the past. But, against all odds, F1 is now within touching distance of the $600 million mark at the global box office. Starring Brad Pitt, the movie got an added shot in the arm, as it was re-released in select IMAX locations this week, with a potential expansion in seven days.

F1 has proven that a movie marketed as a big-screen experience, and one that isn’t diluted with an early PVOD release, can still do wonders theatrically. F1 has grossed nearly $180 million so far at the domestic box office, where it’s playing in over 1,300 locations.

The B-Side Ep. 165 – Mission: Impossible
Image
Welcome to The B-Side! Here we sometimes talk about movie stars! We sometimes talk about movie directors! Today, we talk about both! Specifically, the B-Sides of the Mission: Impossible franchise.

It’s just Conor and I today folks, waxing poetic on Tom Cruise’s legendary franchise and the B-Sides that we were inspired to discuss. We’ve chosen one for each of the Mission movies. It’s also July 3rd on the day this episode is published, so happy 63rd birthday Tom Cruise!

For the first Mission: Impossible, we speak on The Avengers from 1998. An adaptation of the popular British television series from the ‘60s, director Jeremiah S. Chechik’s film was dismantled in post-production, slashed to ribbons following bad test screenings. The final product runs well under ninety minutes and is hard to understand. It sits on the other end of blockbusters in the ‘90s adapted from hit televisions from yesteryear.

July 1 Will Be a Rough Day for Tom Cruise Fans
Image
Tom Cruise fans are in for some bad news thanks to a streaming purge on Amazon Prime Video. Some of the Oscar-nominated actor's biggest movies will be leaving the platform in July.

Per Collider, six Cruise titles will leave Prime Video on July 1, giving fans less than 24 hours to watch them before they disappear from the streaming service. Of them all, Born on the Fourth of July is perhaps the most underrated. The 1989 biographical drama sees Cruise portray real-life Vietnam War veteran Ron Kovic, with the film detailing his military service, paralysis suffered during the war and transition to anti-war activism. The Oliver Stone-helmed effort was one of Cruise's early successes, earning him a Best Actor Academy Award nomination.

Also leaving Prime Video is Top Gun, which debuted three years before Born on the Fourth of July. The action drama introduces the world to young aviator Lieutenant Pete "Maverick...

Oscar Isaac's Forgotten 47% Rotten Tomatoes Superhero Movie Gets Overtaken by 'Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning'
Image
Star Oscar Isaac didn't have a great time playing the titular villain in the 2016 superhero movie X-Men: Apocalypse, which served as the highly anticipated follow-up to the tremendously successful blockbuster X-Men: Days of Future Past. In an interview with GQ, he said that working on the movie was "excruciating," mainly because he was covered in prosthetics and barely got an opportunity to interact with his talented co-stars. The hard work wasn't exactly worth it, with the movie earning mediocre reviews and underperforming at the box office. It concluded its global run with $543 million, and has now been overtaken by Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning.

Starring Tom Cruise in what could be his final time playing the legendary Ethan Hunt, The Final Reckoning has been having a tough time at the box office. While it's set to overtake its predecessor, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning, at the global box office this week,...

Weekend Box Office: Dragons beat zombies while Disney has a major dud with Elio
Danny Boyle
The weekend box office results from Comscore are in, and it looks like the family-friendly How to Train Your Dragon remake was able to carve out a win over Danny Boyle’s long-awaited sequel, 28 Years Later. This is about what we predicted earlier this week, with How to Train Your Dragon making $37 million, a so-so 56% decline from last week. With a $160 million running total, this one should have legs for the rest of the summer.

28 Years Later made $30 million domestically, which is solid for a movie rumored to have cost a thrifty $60 million. But what should make all involved extra happy is that the film also made $30 million overseas—a big score, as horror doesn’t always export successfully. Not surprisingly, the UK was its biggest international opening with $6.4 million.

However, the weekend also saw a pretty huge flop, with Pixar’s Elio laying an egg with a $21 million opening.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning North America Box Office Day 29: Officially Beats Dead Reckoning( Photo Credit – Instagram )

Mission: Impossible—The Final Reckoning finally beat its predecessor’s domestic haul on its fifth Friday despite multiple competitions and losing theaters. Tom Cruise’s film lost the IMAX screens last week despite maintaining a stronghold at the box office. Keep scrolling for the deets.

It is one of the most popular franchises globally and has amassed over $4.6 billion worldwide. Tom’s mindblowing stunts and unparalleled charm keep the audience glued to their seats. People keep coming back to these Mi movies for the amazing cinematic experience. Unfortunately, this is reportedly the last film in the Mission: Impossible franchise and the fans will not see Tom as Ethan Hunt again in a new Mi film. This is also another driving force for the film’s strong box office performance.

Mission: Impossible 8 Box Office Hits Major Domestic Milestone & Closes In On Og 1996 Movie In Franchise's Chart
Image
Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning just crossed another major domestic milestone at the box office. The eighth Mission: Impossible movie follows up on Dead Reckoning's cliffhanger ending, as Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt continues to wage war against the AI Entity. It was a costly production for Paramount Pictures, as Final Reckoning's budget was reportedly $400 million. It was released in late May domestically and has been struggling to reach profitability at the box office.

According to a report by Deadline, Final Reckoning has crossed the $175 million threshold in its fifth weekend in theaters. Coming in at fifth place on the weekend, it is poised to earn $7.1 million across this three-day window, which represents a 33% drop from week 4. That is enough to reach $178.9 million throughout its domestic run, which means that it should surpass the original movie's $180.9 million domestic total within the next week.

Box Office: ’28 Years Later’ Chomps on $14 Million Opening Day; ‘Elio’ Facing Pixar’s Lowest Debut Ever as ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ Rules Again
28 ans plus tard (2025)
Sony’s “28 Years Later” got a running start at the domestic box office with $14 million across Friday and preview screenings. Meanwhile, Disney’s original animated adventure “Elio” is in danger of hitting the lowest debut ever for a Pixar production. Universal’s “How to Train Your Dragon” is getting a second weekend on top of North American charts.

In second place, “28 Years Later” is now dashing toward an opening north of $30 million — a bit ahead of projections heading into the weekend. It’d be a good start for the hopeful franchise rejuvenator, which cost $60 million. Sony won the production in a bidding war, which saw studios vying for a package billed as the reunion of director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland, teaming for a belated follow-up to their zombie thriller “28 Days Later,” released in 2002 (though this new entry arrives only 23 years later).

A sequel to “28 Years Later,...

After finding success on different platforms, Dead Reckoning is now a hit on Netflix, too, Tudum reveals.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is still one of the trending movies at the box office in North America. The action thriller is chasing the domestic haul of its predecessor, Dead Reckoning Part One, and it crossed the $500 million milestone this weekend. However, given the momentum, Mi 8 is not expected to collect $800 million or more worldwide. Keep scrolling for more.

The movie will face more competition in the upcoming days as two new horror films will be released this month—28 Years Later and M3GAN 2.0. Mission: Impossible 8 Might Secretly Be Setting Up A New Lead After Tom Cruise—And That’s A Big Deal
Image
Mission: Impossible 8 may secretly be setting up a new lead after Tom Cruise (Photo Credit – Instagram)

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning might look like the grand finale for Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt, but it’s quietly doing something bigger, it’s teeing up a new lead. And the wildcard in question is Pom Klementieff’s Paris.

Paris, the ruthless-yet-enigmatic assassin introduced in Dead Reckoning, was initially on the side of chaos. Working for Gabriel and the AI-driven Entity, she rips through screen time with car chases and vicious fight scenes, none more memorable than that brutal hallway brawl. But something shifts. The Entity predicts her betrayal. Gabriel stabs her but he survives. Then saves Ethan and Grace, that’s not a background character move. That’s the main character’s behavior.

She ends the movie clinging to life, but the pulse is there. Add to that her prominent...

Jason Statham Knocks Down Tom Cruise With 42% Rotten Tomatoes Thriller Climbing Streaming Charts
Image
After kickstarting 2025 withA Working Man, Jason Statham is riding a wave of momentum — but not just from his newest blockbuster. Homefront, the 2013 action-thriller penned by Sylvester Stallone, is suddenly one of the most-watched movies on Prime Video. As of mid-June, it’s sitting at #9 on the U.S. Top 10, one spot ahead of Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, which holds at #10. Not bad for a film with a 42% Rotten Tomatoes critic score.

So what’s fueling the resurgence of Homefront? Call it the Statham effect. When he’s not blowing up international box office charts with recent hits like A Working Man — which grossed nearly $100 million worldwide — fans are diving back into his catalogue for more of that no-nonsense, knuckle-breaking catharsis. And Homefront delivers exactly that.

Directed by Gary Fleder, the film stars Statham as Phil Broker, a former DEA agent hoping for a quiet life in small-town Louisiana with his daughter.

Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning Passes Massive Milestone (But It Might Still Flop)
Image
Tom Cruise has always done everything he could to offer moviegoers the most entertaining theatrical experience. That, as the Mission: Impossible franchise figured out, comes with a hefty price.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, believed to mark the end of the long-running franchise, also paid the price of its many death-defying stunts. The eighth film in the action franchise had a massive $400 million budget, one of the highest budgets in the film industry. Almost a month since its release in theaters, Variety reports thatMission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning has crossed a major milestone: it has just passed the $500 million mark.

In its fourth week, Paramount's Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning added another $10.3 million domestically, with a 31% decline from the previous weekend. Overall, the eighth film in the franchise, and a direct sequel to 2023's Dead Reckoning, grossed $506 million worldwide.

Joe Biden grew more concerned over AI after seeing latest Mission Impossible
Image
The use – and misuse – of artificial intelligence has never been as hot and controversial of a topic as it is now. Innocent fun can be had creating images of outlandish scenarios, but it has become far more of a threat around the world – and we’re not talking about selling dental plans. Now, it has gone all the way to the Oval Office. No, President Joe Biden isn’t concerned that his Hall of Presidents animatronic will come to life and kill everybody in Liberty Square; rather, it was a screening of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One that pushed him to fear the consequences even more than he already did.

According to deputy White House chief of staff Bruce Reed (as per Associated Press), Joe Biden’s Dead Reckoning showing at Camp David may have offered a turning point. “If he hadn’t already been concerned about what...

Count the President of the United States among the growing number of people worried about artificial intelligence, with Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One to thank for his fears of the technology.

Is Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning a Box Office Success?

After Tom Cruise had the biggest commercial success of his career with his last film, 2022’s Top Gun: Maverick, which grossed nearly $1.5 billion at the worldwide box office, it seemed to be a foregone conclusion that Cruise’s hot box office streak would continue with his latest film, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, the sequel to 2018’s Mission: Impossible – Fallout and the seventh installment in the Mission: Impossible film series, especially since the new film has received the best reviews of any movie in the long-running series.

However, these factors haven't been manifested in the box office performance of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, which fell short of not only the box office performance of Mission: Impossible – Fallout but also the threshold for profitability. Indeed, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One seems to be the least commercially successful Mission: Impossible film over the past decade.

Joe Biden Grew More “Concerned” About AI After Watching Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning
Image
President Joe Biden signed an executive order on Monday implementing standards and security measures in response to the rapid development of artificial intelligence. Though there were already a myriad of reasons for Biden to be concerned about AI, watching Tom Cruise go up against an advanced AI called “the Entity” in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One apparently helped put him over the top.

As deputy White House chief of staff Bruce Reed told The Associated Press, Biden’s concern about AI only grew after taking in the film at Camp David. “If he hadn’t already been concerned about what could go wrong with AI before that movie, he saw plenty more to worry about,” said Reed, who watched Dead Reckoning with Biden.

Cruise’s Ethan Hunt fights against a seemingly all-knowing sentient AI in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning that’s not only capable of manipulating systems and networks on a global level,...

How Mission: Impossible 7 Made A 14-Year Long Wish Come True
Image
An incredibly difficult shoot, a once-in-a-generation pandemic, and multiple release date delays as the industry tried to get back on its feet all contributed to the feeling that "Mission: Impossible -- Dead Reckoning" has been in the works for an unfathomably lengthy amount of time. That's not entirely untrue, of course, as production began in earnest back in 2020 and even overlapped with filming of certain parts of the sequel. With the benefit of hindsight, although the film perhaps doesn't reach the same highs as 2018's "Fallout," it still feels like a minor miracle that the movie managed to overcome all of those obstacles, make it into theaters, and be as entertaining as it was.

For director Chris McQuarrie and star Tom Cruise, however, the ambitious blockbuster represented something even more meaningful. Aside from Cruise's defiance of death with yet another wildly dangerous stunt, "Dead Reckoning" provided the perfect opportunity...

Eden: Vanessa Kirby, Sydney Sweeney cast in Ron Howard survival thriller
Image
Oscar-winning director Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind) is planning to head into production on his latest film, a survival thriller formerly known as Origin of the Species and now going by the title Eden, at the end of November – and with just weeks to go before cameras start rolling, Howard has rounded out his lead cast with Vanessa Kirby (Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning) and Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria).

Kirby and Sweeney are taking over roles that were previously assigned to Alicia Vikander and Daisy Edgar-Jones. Their co-stars include Jude Law (Sherlock Holmes), Ana de Armas (Knives Out), and Daniel Bruhl (The Alienist). Howard had a solid cast put together before Vikander and Edgar-Jones dropped out, and the cast remains strong with Kirby and Sweeney as their replacements.

Deadline notes that Eden is based on an unsolved mystery that unfolded on a remote island in the Galapagos and charts the lengths...

Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One: How That Cliffhanger Ending Sets Up Part Two
Image
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One offered a thrilling adventure that not only stands on its own but also sets the ground for an explosive continuation in Mission: Impossible 8 (which was previously titled Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two... more on that in a bit).

The film, which stars Tom Cruise in his long-time role as Ethan Hunt, introduces a fascinating new thief named Grace while reintroducing some more familiar names. Ethan and his crew are on the hunt for The Entity, an advanced AI software with frightening potential. A tension-filled, action-packed environment is created by shifting alliances, kept secrets, and the impending conflict between Ethan and the renegade AI. In doing so, Part One deftly laid the groundwork for the riveting story to follow.

So, what's next for the series? The sequel promises unexpected developments that will leave viewers on the edge of their seats as the...

Hollywood Has Reached Peak Two-Part Movies
Image
Hollywood moviemaking has always been a numbers game, and right now the winning number appears to be two.

Zack Snyder is locking picture on part one of December’s Rebel Moon, his two-part space opera for Netflix. Christopher McQuarrie, the filmmaker behind Paramount and Skydance’s Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning, Part One, retreated to a house in the northeast in recent months to edit what he’s shot so far of his follow-up. And once the SAG-AFTRA strike ends, Wicked filmmaker Jon M. Chu has just a few days left of principal photography on the first of his two Broadway adaptations. Then there’s Dune: Part Two (delayed by the strike until March), a sequel to Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (no release date in sight) and Kevin Costner’s two-part western Horizon, hitting theaters six weeks apart next summer.

These two-parters can serve both art and commerce, say those who work on them.

Disney Delays ‘Snow White’ and ‘Elio’ a Year, Removes Jonathan Majors’ ‘Magazine Dreams’ From Calendar
Image
Get ready for the dominoes to start falling in earnest as studios race to rearrange their 2024 theatrical release calendars amid the ongoing actors’ strike.

Disney on Friday announced it is delaying the release of its live-action Snow White movie starring Rachel Zegler by a year from March 22, 2024 to March 21, 2025. The film, which is officially titled Disney’s Snow White, is among the studio’s biggest offerings of the year, and is one of the anchors of its spring slate.

The other spring anchor is Pixar’s March animated tentpole Elio, which is being pushed back by more than a year, from March 1, 2024 to June 13, 2025.

In a move unrelated to the strike, Disney and Searchlight have removed Magazine Dreams starring Jonathan Majors from the December 2023 calendar. The decision was widely expected due to Majors’ legal troubles. He is due to stand trial Nov. 29 in New York for misdemeanor harassment and assault charges.

IMAX Giving All Its Screens to ‘Oppenheimer’ and Not ‘Mission: Impossible’ Sure Worked Out
Image
“Oppenheimer” just exploded IMAX’s third-quarter earnings.

IMAX turned a profit ($12 million) in Q3 2023, the first time it could make that claim for the summer quarter since Covid. (IMAX has now turned a profit for four straight quarters.)

IMAX’s Q3 revenue soared 51 percent from July to September, the company’s second-highest-grossing quarter of all time at the global box office. Its adjusted Ebitda jumped 174 percent to a record-high $45 million.

“Oppenheimer” alone brought in $180 million at the global IMAX box office. “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part 1” and “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” also chipped in. All-in, IMAX’s Q3 global box-office haul was $347 million.

While the seventh “Mission: Impossible” (which opened July 12) had a 9-day head start on “Oppenheimer”, Christopher Nolan’s epic snatched all Tom Cruise’s North American IMAX screens upon premiere.

“M:i” star Cruise tried to personally claw a bunch of those back, according to a Puck report,...

Mission: Impossible 8's Title Change Shows Just How Bad Tom Cruise's $567.5M Disappointment Was
Image
The disappointing box office performance of Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One has led to a title change for the upcoming Mission: Impossible 8. Despite positive reviews for Dead Reckoning Part One, the need to change the sequel's title suggests a desire to shake up the franchise's formula and regain lost momentum. The underperformance of Dead Reckoning Part One highlights the vulnerability of even successful franchises and shows that brand recognition alone is no guarantee of success.

The news that Mission: Impossible 8 will reportedly change its title shows just how much the box office underperformance of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One affected the series. For a while there, the Mission: Impossible movies were on track to pull off a seemingly impossible box office achievement. While even successful franchises typically grow less profitable with each new sequel or, at best, maintain their success across various installments, the Mission Impossible...

Mission: Impossible 8's Reported Title Change Mocked by Fans
Image
Amid reports of Mission: Impossible 8 possibly getting a name change following confirmation of its delayed premiere, fans mock the idea of a new title for the next spy thriller franchise installment.

Several movie enthusiasts took to X (formerly Twitter) to bash the idea of Dead Reckoning Part Two reportedly changing its name. Given the last sequel was titled Dead Reckoning Part One and the seventh and eighth films in the franchise are connected, fans are wondering why the Dead Reckoning Part Two title would change, believing the idea lacks logic. One X user proclaimed "it's a little too late for that" when responding to a post about the possible new title while another branded the idea the "single funniest franchise course correction ever" if it comes to fruition.

Mission: Impossible 8 Gets Major Delay Due to Strike
Image
The ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike has claimed another major theatrical casualty. With no end in sight to the current strike, Paramount Pictures has decided to delay the release of Mission: Impossible 8, formerly Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two, until the summer of 2025.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, the Tom Cruise sequel is moving from June 28, 2024, to May 23, 2025. The initial pause in production was due to Cruise and his team needing to promote the release of Dead Reckoning Part One during the summer. The production hit another snag when the SAG-AFTRA strike started in mid-July. Due to the strike, the cast can not return to work on the film and there is much to be done on Ethan Hunt's next mission.

“How Is That Gonna Work?”: Mission: Impossible 8’s Reported Title Change Has Fans Spinning
Image
Mission: Impossible fans express confusion over the reported title change for Dead Reckoning Part Two. Some viewers argue that dropping Part Two would be illogical given that the previous movie was titled Dead Reckoning Part One. Fans offer tongue-in-cheek title suggestions, such as Mission: Impossible - Ilsa's Back Part One, indicating their dissatisfaction with the franchise's choices.

Mission: Impossible 8’s reported title change sparks passionate fan reactions. The follow-up to this year’s Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One, Mission: Impossible 8 was originally titled Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two. Alongside the update that the movie is delayed to 2025, it was reported that the Dead Reckoning Part Two title may be dropped.

Next ‘Mission: Impossible’ Film Moves Back Entire Year to 2025 as Paramount Shuffles Lineup
Image
The mission will remain impossible to see for another year. The eighth “Mission: Impossible” film in the Tom Cruise action series, which is dropping the previously announced “Dead Reckoning Part Two” from its title, has been delayed from 2024 to 2025, as part of a sweeping shift in Paramount Pictures’ upcoming release schedule.

The direct follow-up to this July’s “Dead Reckoning Part One,” “Part Two” was initially scheduled to premiere June 28, 2024, just 11 months after its direct predecessor’s release. It will now be released May 23, 2025, almost a full year after its initial date.

The “Mission: Impossible” sequel faces the most significant delay, but it’s not the only big ticket item on Paramount’s slate to get majorly pushed back. The film takes the release date previously held by a fourth feature film spinoff of the “Spongebob Squarepants” Nickelodeon animated series. That currently untitled project will now premiere seven months later,...

Tom Cruise’s Next ‘Mission: Impossible’ Movie Delayed a Year to 2025
Image
Tom Cruise’s next Mission: Impossible movie is departing the 2024 box office calendar. The eighth installment in the action spy franchise appears to be dropping the second half of its previous title, Dead Reckoning, Part Two, with a new title expected to be announced at a later date.

Paramount and Skydance have pushed back the film back to May 23, 2025, off its previous date of June 28, 2024. The feature shut down production to allow for star Cruise and the cast to promote Dead Reckoning, Part 1. Then the SAG-AFTRA strike hit in mid-July, which meant the cast could not return to work on the film, which hails from director Christopher McQuarrie.

More tentpoles are likely to flee next year if the strike isn’t resolved in the next few weeks.

M:i 8 follows a bumpy box office ride for Dead Reckoning, Part 1, which bowed in July and grossed $567.5 million globally.

10 Biggest Mission: Impossible 8 Theories About The Franchise's Final Movie
Image
There are plenty of theories floating around the internet regarding Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two, but the truth remains that very little is actually known about this movie, which could end up being the final installment in the franchise. The series has never allowed itself to be predictable before, always facing audiences with countless twists and turns that nobody could see coming - so predicting the ultimate conclusion is an extremely difficult game. That being said, there are certain clues that audiences have picked up on that seem to point toward certain plot points.

Dead Reckoning: Part One featured some of Mission: Impossible’s most tragic deaths and most exhilarating stunts, successfully getting audiences excited about how the eighth movie in the franchise could possibly top those highs - but there’s still plenty that needs to be explored before the story is over. From a narrative perspective,...

Paula Patton's Mission: Impossible 8 Return Looks More Likely Now
Image
With the death of Ilsa in Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One, there is an opportunity for Paula Patton's character, Jane Carter, to return in Part Two. Jane Carter was a valuable member of the team in Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, and her return would help fill the void left by Ilsa's death. Ethan Hunt will need Jane's help to defeat The Entity in Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two, as she is now the best Imf agent he can count on.

Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One saw the return of a number of franchise characters, and based on one major character's death, there's room for Paula Patton to return for Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two. The first part of the Mission: Impossible film franchise finale sees Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his team of Imf agents tasked with defeating The Entity,...

Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 2 Release Date Plans In Doubt (Report)
Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning (2025)
The Hollywood strikes may be drawing to a close; but for many 2024 films, avoiding delays may be the real mission impossible for Dead Reckoning Part 2.

The film was originally set to release on June 23, 2024, and still holds that date. However, a new update suggests audiences may have to wait for Mission: Impossible 8.

How Long Do Movies Stay in Theaters? We Will Never Have an Easy Answer Again
Image
A funny thing happened this summer: Movies weren’t in such a hurry to be seen at home. The average theatrical window for films released from May through June will end up more than 40 days — a significant increase compared to January-April, when the theatrical window fell to an average of 30 days.

Is this a trend? Probably, but not the one that theaters might hope for: It means we might expect theatrical windows to rise and fall based on seasonality and other circumstances. It’s a flexibility that works for studios trying to maximize their revenue streams. For theaters trying to do the same, or for a public that would like to be less confused about where and when they can see a film? Not so much.

Pre-covid, it was close to inviolate that PVOD waited at least 70 days; reduced-price VOD happened after three months. Of the 33 wide-release films this summer,...

Marc Webb To Direct ‘Bermuda’ For Skydance
Image
Exclusive: Skydance’s long-in-development Bermuda Triangle action-adventure pic Bermuda has landed a director as Marc Webb has closed a deal to helm the project.

While the studio has been working on the project for some time, this version is still in early days with no writer has been attached; until the WGA strike ends, that won’t change. Insiders add that once the strike ends and a writer can be attached, Webb would consult on the script but is not expected to co-write.

Plot details are being kept under wraps, except for the fact that it will be set in the mysterious patch of the Caribbean where planes and ships have gone missing over the years.

David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger will produce Bermuda for Skydance. Aimee Rivera will oversee for Skydance.

Best known for his breakout comedy (500) Days of Summer, Webb most recently directed Disney’s live-action...
