It was revealed today that Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica, Riddick, Oculus, Don't Knock Twice) will play the lead role of Mackenzie 'Mack' Wilson in the sci-fi thriller Origin Unknown, and that Content Media has come on board to handle worldwide sales. UK-based Coffee & Cigarettes who act as executive producers on the film brokered the deal with Content Media to represent the film. Here's what Eduardo Panizzo of Coffee & Cigarettes had to say in his statement about the new deal.

Previsualization is underway on producers Parkgate Entertainment and Iam Entertainment’s UK sci-fi thriller Origin Unknown, set to be directed by vfx supervisor Hasraf ‘HaZ’ Dulull.

Set in the not-too distant future of space exploration, Origin Unknown will follow a mission controller investigating a mysterious object that has appeared on Mars. As he gets close to unravelling the mystery with the support of an artificial intelligence called Rainn, he soon realizes there is something much bigger at play.

Screenplay comes from Gary Hall based on a story by Dulull, who worked on The Dark Knight as part of the previsualization team and Hellboy II: The Golden Army as digital compositor.

The film is being financed by private investors.

We have another astounding sci-fi short film for you to watch from director Hasraf HaZ Dulull. This is this same filmmaker who developed the short films Sync and Project Kronos. This guy is on fire, and I've enjoyed all of the shorts that he has made. His latest project is called "I.R.I.S." It's set in the near future, and deals with a artificial intelligence that goes rouge. Here is a brief plot summary:

Nano tech driven drones are used for reconnaissance missions and social surveillance. These drones are run by Iris, an advanced A.I system, which soon begins to unleash an attack upon mankind the likes of which we have never seen.

"I.R.I.S." features a great, big idea concept that could easily be adapted into a feature film. The idea is amazingly executed in his short, and it's wildly intense. I think you're going to enjoy this!
