Running Under the Sun is everything I expected and wanted it to be. The story has a raw, documentary feel to it, but is guided by a poise in the director's approach to storytelling. The brilliance of this film is that it always remains true to the events that occur in real life... Sandoval doesn't include unnecessary fluff. Instead, he approaches the original story with gravitas and calculation... presenting a story to the audience and leaving us alone, to be surrounded only by natural events, to naturally take from the world what we will. For these reasons, I highly recommend this film. I consider Dir. Sandoval a rarified talent, an auteur whose work deserves a place in film critical theory. There is just so much in each of his films that can be analyzed and is yet to be explored.
