'Snow White' gets one thing right (and it's a big one)
Image
To say that Disney's latest live-action remake was long-awaited would be an insult, but Snow White has at last come to theatres everywhere. While social media platforms around the interweb are on fire with the amount of vitriol for this film, is it really 100% bad?

Behind-the-scenes drama aside, the film itself will still resonate well with families with children, but not the Disney purist. Be that as it may, even this die-hard Disnerd will admit that the film at least has one advantage over its predecessor.

Heigh-Ho, let's go!

Rachel Zegler's Snow White might not be everyone's favorite princess, and Gal Gadot's performance might also come with mixed reviews, but this writer certainly wasn't expecting the dwarves to be the most memorable feature (at least in a positive light). They aren't perfect, but they are still a refreshing take on the original characters.

Doc, Sleepy, Sneezy, Bashful, Happy,...

Polar Opposites Review: A Heartwarming Adventure in Love
Image
In the Hallmark film Polar Opposites, we go on an exciting journey to Antarctica, driven by a daughter’s desperate quest to find her father, Ian, a penguin researcher. Emma Rivera, portrayed by Rhiannon Fish, gets a confusing distress call from Ian, which fuels her determination to rescue him.

This is how the narrative progresses. This idea cleverly sets the stage for a romantic comedy, where the stakes are not just about familial bonds but also about discovering unexpected connections in the most extreme of environments.

Emma is an interesting character. She is a courtroom sketch artist who wants to express her creativity more fully. She embodies a common struggle between her job and her personal goals. It’s a contemporary problem that resonates with many people. Andy, portrayed by Markian Tarasiuk, is introduced as the skilled engineer in charge of a study team.

His role balances Emma’s adventurous nature,...

Mads Mikkelsen Deserves His Own John Wick With ‘Polar 2’ but Not by Copying Keanu Reeves: ‘There can be a lot of humor out of that’
Image
Mads Mikkelsen has been playing villains for most of his career. Be it in James Bond, Marvel, or Indiana Jones, that actor has certainly been giving heroes a run for their money with his excellent antagonistic skills. With this, moving from a villain to an anti-hero wasn’t a big stretch for the actor.

Mads Mikkelsen in a still from Polar | Credit: Netflix

In 2019, Mikkelsen starred in Polar, which followed the best assassin in the world’s attempt to retire, only to be turned into a target by his former employer. There is no denying that the film is somewhat reminiscent of Keanu Reeves’ John Wick. However, there is one huge aspect that makes it different from it.

One that could be interesting enough to drive its very own sequel that could do much better than the original.

Mads Mikkelsen Absolutely Hated Getting Tortured After Making Daniel Craig Squirm in James Bond: ‘Took me quite a few weeks to recover’
Image
When it comes to playing an antagonist, very few can do it as well as Mads Mikkelsen. While some play such a character a few times in their career, he has been in the moral black and grey more than he has in the moral white. Having different shades of villain in every character he has played, Hannibal Lecter’s evil certainly does not match Le Chiffre’s evil.

Mads Mikkelsen and Hugh Dancy in Hannibal | NBC

While he has frequently been on the giving side of torment, there are the occasional films where Mikkelsen plays somewhat of a good character. The perfect example of this would be 2019’s Polar, where he played a retired assassin trying to outrun the grasp of his former employer.

Interestingly enough, the actor had another torture scene in this film, only this time he was on the receiving end.

A user proposed a fascinating idea to add to the stratagems of the title, this user described a Space Marine-like armor that has a cooldown and a secondary weapon. The head of Arrowhead Game Studios mentioned that this was on the table.

Warhammer 40K in Helldivers 2 Just Makes Sense A Space Marine-like armor from Warhammer 40K will be a good addition to Helldivers 2.

Hanks provided motion capture and facial expressions for Hero Boy, while the voice was provided by Spy Kid's Daryl Sabara. Tom Hanks played seven roles in Christmas favorite The Polar Express, some of which are easier to spot than others. Based on the children's picture book by Chris Van Allsburg (Jumanji), The Polar Express became famous/infamous for its extensive use of motion capture. Director Robert Zemeckis was a proponent of this technique, as it freed him to place the camera wherever he wished. Despite this, the film was heavily criticized for its uncanny valley visuals, with many critics being particularly unnerved by the...

In Brutal Oscar Entry ‘The Promised Land,’ Star Mads Mikkelsen Says Plenty with Near-Silence
Image
There’s Violent Mads.. And Quiet Mads..

And now there’s Very Quiet Mads.

In his fifth Danish Oscar entry, “The Promised Land,” a Nordic pioneer Western from Nicolaj Arcel (Mikkelsen’s director from a decade ago on the nominated “A Royal Affair”), Mikkelsen delivers an almost silent, stoic, physical performance as captain-turned-potato-farmer Ludvig von Kahlen as he tries to tame the 18th-century Danish heath.

As the bastard son of a nobleman and his maid, making something of a piece of turf is the only way for the veteran to move up into the upper class. “He so desperately wants to become part of something that he hates, nobility,” Mikkelsen told IndieWire during a recent interview in Los Angeles. “They don’t deserve it. They haven’t worked for anything. He decides that he wants to be part of it.”

Back then people didn’t talk about their feelings. “His range of emotions is limited,...

Netflix Really Missed The Mark With This Mads Mikkelsen Action Thriller
Image
When you think of Mads Mikkelsen, your brain probably locks onto the captivating villains he's played on screen, be it Le Chiffre from "Casino Royale," Hannibal Lecter in "Hannibal," or even Jürgen Voller in "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny." What you may not think about is Mikkelsen the dancer.

It's true: after studying at the world-famous ballet academy in Gothenburg, Sweden (aka. the Balettakademien), the Danish actor spent a decade as a professional dancer before getting into acting. He would go on to put his ballet skills to incredible use in the opening fight in "Hannibal" season 2, as well as the memorable drunken dance scene that went viral from director Thomas Vinterberg's Danish dramedy "Another Round." With his physical grace and screen charisma, it was probably inevitable somebody would have the idea to cast Mikkelsen as the protagonist in a post-"John Wick" assassin thriller (of which...

In the throwback clip, Sting was seen being a witness to his own iconic number ‘Every Breath You Take’, sung by Puerto Rican-born guitarist, but he seemed unimpressed.

On captioning the video, Rahman tweeted, “I’ve been there.”

Rahman, too, has been a witness to unimpressive remakes of his songs such as ‘Humma Humma’ by Badshah, ‘Urvasi Urvasi’ and ‘Masakali 2.0’.

He is a winner of six National Film Awards, two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a BAFTA Award and a Golden Globe Award.

In 2010, the Indian government conferred him with the Padma Bhushan, the nation’s third-highest civilian award.

Click here to read the full article.

Notorious punk rocker Gg Allin is getting the biopic treatment.

Jonas Åkerlund, the music video director behind heavy metal thriller Lords of Chaos, will helm the feature, titled Gg Allin: Live. Fast. Die., which will be produced by Don Murphy and Susan Monford of Angry Films and Mvd Entertainment Group.

The producers have acquired Allin’s life and music rights, and have a script written by Richard Schenkman.

Allin was a cult and fringe figure in the 1980s punk scene that became notorious for his outrageous acts on stage, notably defecating on stage and sometimes hurling it at his audience. His shows frequently ended in chaos and violence and he found himself frequently arrested and imprisoned. Allin fell headlong into booze and drugs while putting out albums — punk, spoken word, and country — mostly on cassette in the 80s.

According to the producers, Live.

Punk Rocker Gg Allin Movie in the Works With Mvd Entertainment; Jonas Åkerlund Attached to Direct
GG Allin in Hated: GG Allin & the Murder Junkies (1993)
Executive producer Ed Seaman and Mvd Entertainment Group have acquired punk rocker Gg Allin’s life and music rights, with Jonas Åkerlund attached to the direct the biopic film, titled “Gg Allin: Live. Fast. Die.”

Angry Films’ Don Murphy and Susan MonEord will produce along with Eric D. Wilkinson from a screenplay by Richard Schenkman.

Known as rock ‘n roll’s “outlaw scumfuc,” Gg Allin’s live shows were legendary for his outrageous antics. Kevin Michael Allin (born Jesus Christ Allin) adopted “Gg” as his stage persona, but the role took over his life. Descending into booze, drugs and schizophrenia, Gg tore through band mates, fans, and women, announcing that he would commit suicide on stage October 31st, 1991 – only to find himself in prison for assault on that date.

Mads Mikkelsen To Play The Hero, For Once, In Action Spy Thriller The Black Kaiser
Mads Mikkelsen at an event for The 79th Annual Academy Awards (2007)
Mads Mikkelsen has earned quite a name for himself playing villains on both the big and small screens, from the creepy blood-weeping Le Chiffre in "Casino Royale" to charismatic cannibal epicurean Hannibal Lecter on NBC's "Hannibal." Now he's set to play a hero (sort of) in Jonas Åkerlund's "The Black Kaiser," a new film based on the "Polar" graphic novels by Victor Santos. Åkerlund and Mikkelsen previously took on the character and world for the Netflix film "Polar" in 2019, though it was not exactly beloved by critics. I thought "Polar" was a messy exploitation action thriller that had some truly fun moments, and am actually kind of excited...

Polar Bear – Review

Disneynature’s Polar Bear – Photo by Florian Ledoux. ©2022 Disney Enterprises, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

To commemorate Earth Day, Disney+ invites its viewers to embark on an adventure in a faraway land. Now, with warmer temps in the near future, you might think that you’ll be virtually basking in the sun, perhaps on a white island beach, or trekking through a lush jungle. Well, that’s not the plan as these talented filmmakers follow the remarkable life of a pretty remarkable and resilient creature. And the weather does play a big part in this film, you might even consider it another character. That’s because of its now radically changing aspects, forcing the title animal to go to more creative and extreme links to survive. that’s because it is now tougher than ever to be a Polar Bear.

It begins with a mother and daughter “ice bear” on the move,...

Jonas Åkerlund at an event for To Rome with Love (2012)
The latest official trailer for the Netflix crime biographical drama "Clark" is here, and let me tell you one thing about this trailer — it is chaotic. Directed by Jonas Åkerlund, "Clark" chronicles the life of notorious Swedish gangster/bank robber Clark Olofsson, who single-handedly might have been the originator of Stockholm Syndrome. While I am not quite sure how to feel about all that, Bill Skarsgård, who plays the "charismatic criminal," seems to be having a ton of fun portraying the character's layered origin story.

Check out the madness that "Clark" seems to be by checking out the trailer below.

Jonas Åkerlund at an event for To Rome with Love (2012)
"This f&!*ing society has never given me an honest chance!" Netflix has revealed the full-length trailer for the crime comedy series Clark, made by Swedish filmmaker Jonas Åkerlund. Clark tells the story of the Swedish criminal who gave rise to the idea of "The Stockholm Syndrome" during a failed bank robbery in Stockholm in the 70s. Clark Olofsson has been referred to as a "celebrity gangster", and over his many decades has managed to escape prisons and commit robberies all over Europe. Åkerlund explains: "Clark is the story about the most politically incorrect man, who lived the most politically incorrect life. These are the kinds of stories I always look for. It’s an ultra-violent, witty, emotional, real and surreal biography to put a face to the name 'Stockholm Syndrome', but it isn’t just about the Norrmalmstorg Robbery.
