Lil Rel Howery is set to make his directorial debut and star in the horror comedy Haunted Heist, which will co-star Tiffany Haddish. The film was written by Carl Reid, who co-wrote the script for Hulu's 2024 release Mr. Crocket, a horror movie about a sinister children's television show host. French distribution outfit The Coven, which recently enjoyed big success with Terrifier 3, will distribute Haunted Heist.
The plot, according to Deadline, is as follows:
...four estranged friends reunite at what appears to be a typical house. But one friend has ulterior motives; he plans to rob the place and needs their help to find an antique worth a fortune. But the house is straight up haunted, and the group must squash their differences to survive the night and an insane pack of ghosts.
While the entire premise sounds promising, the phrase "insane pack of ghosts" will certainly pique the interest of the horror community.

It’s hard to overstate the impact of the first John Wick, which not only rekindled Keanu Reeves’ career at the time, and cemented him as one of the most prolific action stars of our time, it also revitalized the action landscape. Considering how influential the Bourne flicks were, many action films post its release, tried to incorporate its shaky cam formula.

While some worked better than others, the trope was done to death by the late 2000s, with Taken 3 serving as its worst offender. But John Wick served as the outlier, which popularized two new components in the genre, usage of long steady takes and gun-fu. But interestingly, not many were in favor of the latter during the film’s production.

They say a friend in need is a friend indeed, and this couldn’t be truer for Sandra Bullock and Samantha Mathis. Have you ever wondered how deep the roots of friendship can grow in the world of Hollywood, where authenticity is a rare gem?

What these actresses have isn’t just any friendship; it’s an extended family dynamic. When River Phoenix, Mathis’ boyfriend and a beloved star, tragically passed away in 1993, it was undeniably one of the “scariest experiences” in Bullock’s life. Yet during those dark days, the latter’s sympathy and unflagging support provided a silver lining, mirroring her extraordinary empathy and deep bond with Mathis.

Emmy-award winning writer duo and former housemates Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele aren’t as close as they once were, Key told People in an interview published Sunday. He explained, “We don’t see each other that often anymore,” before he added, “Which is, to me, a tragedy.”
Key described the pair’s time together as writers on “Mad TV” as one during which they “shared a mind.” He added of his former housemate, “We lived together for a few months and would write and talk about comedy — who we liked and why we liked them and how that worked in the architecture of what we were trying to build comedically.”
The duo went on to launch their hit comedy series “Key & Peele” in 2012. They also worked together on 2016’s “Keanu,” appeared on “Fargo” during the show’s first season and voiced characters in 2019’s “Toy Story 4” and 2022’s “Wendell & Wild.

Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele spent several years working together on sketch comedy, but their lives and careers have since ventured into different directions. For Key, it feels tragic that he no longer sees Peele as much as he did back when Key & Peele was on the air.
Two decades ago, Key and Peele became fast friends when they co-starred on the Saturday Night Live competitor MADtv. They'd later team up to launch their own sketch comedy show on Comedy Central, Key & Peele, which was on the air from 2012 to 2015. Along with winning multiple Emmys, the series garnered great acclaim, and many of the duo's sketches are still often quoted and fondly remembered by fans. For Key himself, the actor said in a new interview with People that his run making comedy with Peele was "a thrilling time in my life."

Though Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele were once an iconic duo, they unfortunately “don’t see each other that often anymore.”
During a recent interview with People magazine, the Wonka actor looked back at his first time meeting Peele, saying, “It was a thrilling time in my life.”
After previously training at Chicago’s Second City together, the pair, known as Key & Peele, were eventually “sharing a mind” on Fox’s Mad TV starting in 2004. Thanks to their comedic dynamic, they later launched their own sketch comedy series, Key & Peele, which ran from 2012-2015 and won two Emmys.

Many horror fans probably know that one of the working titles for Wes Craven's 1996 slasher revival "Scream" was "Scary Movie." "Scream," if you'll recall, was a metanarrative horror film, a slasher populated by teenage characters who were movie-savvy enough to recognize they were, themselves, in a slasher situation. The killer had seen "Halloween" and "Friday the 13th," and arranged his murders accordingly. As a character says late in the film, "Movies don't create killers. Movies make killers creative."
"Scream" almost immediately entrenched itself in the pop consciousness, tapping into 1990s self-awareness and reviving the moribund slasher genre for the irony generation. It also wasn't long before the culture became self-aware of its own self-awareness, and thought to dissect the very act of dissection. The ironic mockery of irony was the dominant ethos of the late 1990s. Listen to Harvey Danger's "Flagpole Sitta" sometime for another example of the attitude at play.

“It’s f–ing hard to make a good airplane movie,” Swedish filmmaker Ruben Östlund emphasized multiple times Saturday morning in Cannes as he spoke to international press about his plans for The Entertainment System Is Down, the latest feature he has set to direct starring a buzzy cast led by Kirsten Dunst and Daniel Brühl.
His follow-up to the Palme d’Or-winning satire Triangle of Sadness, The Entertainment System Is Down is another social satire, this time set on a long-haul flight where the entertainment systems fail, and an eclectic group of international passengers are forced to face the horror of being bored.
As we reported earlier this week, Östlund and his producer, Erik Hemmendorff, have purchased a real-life Boeing 747 where he told the press today he will mount the production over 70 days on a studio lot.

However, his comedic chops run the gamut as he has had numerous supporting roles in genres from family to raunchy. Beyond television, he has graced his fair share of movies, and his presence, no matter how brief, always stands out as the scene-stealer that he is.
Having been in the entertainment industry for almost twenty-five years, Key has amassed twenty-three award nominations, including three wins with a Peabody, an American Comedy Award, and an Emmy for Outstanding Variety Sketch Series.

Bill Skarsgård has slowly but surely established himself as one of the most versatile actors of this generation. With a number of quirky and unconventional roles under his belt, Skarsgård keeps pushing the envelope of his skills with each new character he plays on the screen.
The actor has been a part of several notable franchises in his career. Therefore, it was not surprising when John Wick came calling for him. He is not new to playing antagonists, in fact, he excels at playing morally dubious characters.
He did it again as Marquis Vincent de Gramont in the fourth installment of this Keanu Reeves-led series. It was a knock-out performance, but one aspect of his role faced a lot of flak from the public, so much so that it could have taken attention away from the film itself.

Acclaimed director Jordan Peele has provided an exciting update on his currently untitled next film project. Speaking on a recent podcast visit, Peele suggested the secretive horror outing has the potential to be his new favorite if executed properly, raising anticipation for the Oscar winner’s highly-awaited follow-up to 2022’s Nope.

Initially slated to begin production last year for a late 2024 release, Peele’s fourth directorial effort was delayed by industry strikes. In July 2022, on the heels of the premiere of his third feature “Nope,” Jordan Peele went viral when he responded to a tweet calling him the greatest horror director of all time. “Sir, please put the phone down I beg you,” the writer/director wrote. “Sorry. I love your enthusiasm, but I will just not tolerate any John Carpenter slander!!!”
That’s just one of many examples of Peele professing his love for classic horror cinema. Even before he established himself as one of the industry’s top filmmakers, Peele was always open about his love for the sometimes taboo genre. In recent years, he has used his newfound status as a darling of the horror community to wax poetic about the many scary subgenres he enjoys. From 1980s slashers to meticulously crafted contemporary psychological horror, Peele’s appreciation for the art of the scare only seems to increase as his filmography grows.

Jordan Peele wasn't always one of the greatest horror filmmakers in the world. First he was a prolific comedian, starring in five seasons of the late-night sketch comedy series "Mad TV," impersonating celebrities left and right. Then he created his own show with his fellow "Mad TV" alumni Keegan-Michael Key, appropriately titled "Key & Peele," and that show was a major comedy hit that's still actively memed to this day.
It made sense that, when Jordan Peele moved into the realm of movies, his first project was the phenomenally funny buddy comedy "Keanu." Peele co-wrote the screenplay and starred opposite Key as mild-mannered friends who have to step outside their comfort zone and into the world of violent crime in order to rescue their kidnapped, adorable kitten. Peele may not have directed it, but it's a delight, and established Peele as a force to be reckoned with in motion picture comedies as well as TV.

Tiffany Haddish is still haunted by how she was treated on her first film.
The “Girl’s Trip” breakout star and recent “Haunted Mansion” actress told the Associated Press in the below video that she was never paid for her film debut, despite being told her salary would be $1,200. Haddish was also homeless at the time.
“My very first movie I ever did that I was the star in, I was homeless while I was shooting that movie,” Haddish said. “They were supposed to pay me $1,200 to do the movie. I wasn’t in the union. It was non-union film so there was nothing I could do about it. They never paid me. They never paid me a dime.”
She continued, “The producers gave me 10 DVDs and said, ‘Sell those. Good luck.’ I never saw the movie.”
While Haddish did not name the film, her first credited role was in 2005’s “The Urban Demographic.

Tiffany Haddish revealed in a video interview with the Associated Press that she did not earn a penny from her first movie, even after it started airing on network television and various streaming platforms following the success of “Girls Trip.” The 2017 comedy, co-starring Regina Hall, Queen Latifah and Jada Pinkett Smith, served as Haddish’s industry breakout. She earned rave reviews and won the supporting actress prize from the New York Film Critics circle, all of which created heightened interest in the work she shot prior.
Haddish was talking to the AP about Hollywood’s changing financial systems amid the SAG-AFTRA strike. She revealed that before “Girls Trip,” she starred in a non-union film and was promised she’d be paid $1,200 dollars. She never made a cent.

The cast of Wonka is filled with recognizable actors and popular comedians who bring Roald Dahl's iconic characters to life in fresh and original ways. Wonka is a musical about the origins of its title character, an eccentric businessman known for creating sweet treats and creatively punishing spoiled children. Serving as a prequel to Dahl's novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the movie focuses primarily on Willy Wonka’s younger days.
The Wonka story recounts how the figure met the Oompa-Loompas on his early adventures and teamed up with them to create his confections with a little sprinkle of magic. With Paddington director Paul King at the helm and heartthrob Timothée Chalamet in the title role, the prequel differs significantly from the previous on-screen adaptations of Dahl's classic story — 1971's Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory and 2005's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory — which respectively cast Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp as Wonka.

Plot: Set 23 years after the original story which inspired it, The Machine finds Bert Kreischer facing familial crisis and the arrival of his estranged father when the ghost of his booze-soaked past arrives: a murderous mobster hellbent on kidnapping Bert back to the motherland to atone for his crimes. Together, he and his father must retrace the steps of his younger self in the midst of a war between a sociopathic crime family while they attempt to find common ground.

From slapstick farces about disastrous road trips to crime capers about fleeing from drug lords, there are a bunch of great comedy movies like We’re the Millers for fans to enjoy. You can’t herd cats, the idiom goes. While not technically true, trying to train a feline is not nearly as easy a task as training a dog, horse, or pig to leap on command or pretend to like its Homo sapien co-star. Those animals are more social pack animals. Cats? They’d rather sleep in the wheel well of your car than next to you.
That hasn’t stopped thousands of professionals, and some average folks, from enlisting their pets into casts of movies and TV shows. As this 1961 Life photograph proves, if humans can’t make it big, the next best thing is living vicariously via your kid or American-short haired. At least cats can handle rejection, because landing a spot in a cat food ad or feature film takes a special cat.

The show, which recently screened in part at SXSW, was set to follow a 33-year-old Black man of the same name on a mission of self-discovery amid the burgeoning field of digital psychiatry that might be the key to defining his truest self. It’s been described as a genre-fluid coming-of-age story with a reality-bending premise that explores the gulf between Black male perspectives, while also attempting to answer Demascus’ personal question: “Who am I?...

Rick And Morty have had many impressive guest stars, including some notable Oscar winners. Just like with South Park or The Simpsons, it didn't take long for celebrities to realize Rick And Morty was the hot new animated show they needed to cameo on. The first season had some cool guest stars like Alfred Molina or Wayne's World star Dana Carvey playing Jerry's father, but later series saw a notable uptick in major actors making appearances. Some of the biggest include Sam Neill, Timothy Olyphant, Werner Herzog, Christina Ricci, Peter Dinklage and many more who popped up in recent years.
Season 4 of Rick And Morty featured guests like Elon Musk and even Jesus Christ - as voiced by Christopher Meloni. Unlike The Simpsons or South Park, Rick And Morty tend to create characters for their celebrity cameos. Over the years, the animated comedy has also lured some Academy Award-winning performers onto the show,...

Over the course of four films, the “John Wick” franchise has established itself as the most gorgeous series in the history of action cinema, with vibrant colors and gliding camera moves that provide a counterpoint to the gritty, handheld camerawork of the “Bourne” movies. Cinematographer Dan Laustsen, who came on board for “John Wick: Chapter Two” and has shot every “Wick” film since, had a clear mandate from director Chad Stahelski upon their first meeting. “He said, ‘I want to shoot “John Wick” like a Bertolucci movie,'” Laustsen told IndieWire. “That was his briefing for me, and I thought, ‘That doesn’t sound bad at all.'”
“John Wick: Chapter Four” represents the peak of Laustsen and Stahelski’s collaboration, with set piece after set piece shot in long takes that showcase the elegant choreography of the action and a color palette that Stahelski acknowledges owes more than a...

When it comes to R-rated comedies, no other film festival can hold a candle to SXSW. The Austin-based film festival is often the jumping-off point for some of the year’s highest-profile comedies; previous premieres have included films like “Knocked Up,” “21 Jump Street,” “Keanu,” and the work-in-progress debut of “Bridesmaids.” This means a stop at SXSW is an absolute no-brainer for any film resulting from the Judd Apatow producing tree.

Johnny Depp’s career has been a long and successful one, and although he’s never actually won an Oscar for any of his famous roles, he’s been nominated several times throughout the years. Depp made his feature-length debut in Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street, where he played Glen Lantz. Despite being one of the movie’s first victims, Lanz was a hugely popular character that gave Depp’s career a huge push and opened up several more doors for him within the genre. From there, he branched out into several other projects and became a household name following his several collaborations with Tim Burton.
Following his teen idol success in the ‘80s and later in the ‘90s, Depp continued to build his fame and eventually got involved in several blockbuster projects and studio franchises that finally cemented him as one of his generation’s most recognizable faces.
