It's an unusual film with a slightly uneven plot, but it kept my interest until the end altho' the reason why it ends like it does are unclear but I'm guessing there's no honour amongst thieves (or hitmen). Decent performances from all concerned and if you fancy a slow burner with a few twists you could do worse than watch this. 7.5/10.
It is definitely slow paced, but not boring for a minute; it reminded me of George Clooney's The American. It's certainly not full of action, but the conversations and narrative reflections carry it through.
Reviews say it's predictable; I definitely did not see the plot twists coming.

Ok, at first I got hooked by the trailer, which set me to expect something good out of this movie, and by Anthony Hopkins, who's (usually) a safe bet. And it was a mistake, I admit!
All characters are pretty flat and shallow, dialogue is superficial and performance is disengaging (specially Abbie Cornish!), and sequence of event's does not make any sense
Put all of that aside. Finishing the movie in retrospect I asked myself: WTF just happened??? The only answer my super ego dictated was that I wasted another 1:30 hrs of my life due to not responding to my gut feeling that it's a trap!
I really wanted to like this movie, but I couldn't. 5 stars for cinematography and Hopkins performance, zero for everything else except Abbie Cornish's performance that is -2!
If you find this review unhelpful (which is a sorta true) then imagine your disappointment when you watch this movie! Sorry.

REVIEW - THE VIRTUOSO
Now I always say that films are like music, we all have different tastes and none can be a better example of this than the Virtuoso.
With a current rating of 4 out of 10 on IMDB AND as its new out I thought I'd give it a look see.
Actually I really enjoyed the film from start to finish, just proving what I've said above.
During the story you follow a hit man through a number of jobs, until he is given one in a sleepy town where no one is as they seem.
Very good writing, acting excellent and just simply a very enjoyable film, as the hit man tries to establish who his next target is.
I guessed very early in the film but this did not detract from the film as a whole.
If you want a story, great acting then this is one to try.
Rating 8 out of 10.

A movie without any outstanding incident and pretty predictable story. The narrative voice over was added to compensate lack of excitement.

- TriviaThe coded note The Virtuoso receives at the start of the film reads:
"Once there was a worn and withered old man too set in his ways, bound by routine to have the fore-sight to understand that in all his seventy-six years he's always done the same thing, ate the same food, chose the same colors, won the same battles. His life a breathing pentagon: home, work, rest, eat, dream. From age eighteen he'd never questioned his lot. Until, the trinity... and the agony of realization that a life lived can never be re-lived."
- GoofsThe virtuoso is so careful, yet when he poisons the man in the motel he takes off his gloves when handling the glass. Which would leave obvious fingerprints.
Mistaken observation. He touched the glass once, swirling it to dissolve the powders he added. He put his glove on that hand before touching it.
