Meryl Streep, we miss you at the Academy Awards.
It’s been seven years since Streep was last nominated for an Oscar for her work in Steven Spielberg’s “The Post” in 2018.
Seven years without Streep is a long time.
Back then, she broke her own record as the most-nominated actress in Oscar history. Her best actress nod for playing Washington Post publisher Katherine Graham landed Streep her 21st Oscar nomination. Katharine Hepburn and Jack Nicholson are tied in second place with a dozen each.
Streep has won Oscars for “Kramer vs. Kramer” in 1979 (supporting actress), “Sophie’s Choice” in 1982 (best actress) and “The Iron Lady” in 2011 (best actress).
The last time she went missing from the Oscars for a long period of time was in the 1990s when she had a gap between her nominations for “Postcards From the Edge” in 1991 to her best actress nod in 1996 for “Bridges of Madison County.

What do the Golden Globes love more than a juicy dramatic performance? A juicy dramatic performance that sings.
From Austin Butler to Renée Zellweger, the Globes have long rewarded actors not known for their musical abilities who decided to show off their chops on screen in biopics. This year, that historical trend could boost the chances of two nominees: Timothée Chalamet for Best Film Drama Actor in A Complete Unknown and Angelina Jolie for Best Film Drama Actress in Maria.
In A Complete Unknown, Chalamet plays Bob Dylan. The film follows the legendary singer-songwriter from January 1961, when he moves from Minnesota to New York City, to his 1965 concert at the Newport Folk Festival, where he notoriously introduces electric instruments. Chalamet does all of his own singing in the film, refusing to lip-synch along to Dylan’s original recordings. As of today, the actor ranks second with 4/1 odds.
In Maria, Jolie plays Maria Callas.

Celebrities becoming the victims of some unexpectedly uncomfortable and embarrassing moments has been a bit too common in Hollywood, sometimes resulting in some of the most hilarious moments of all time. Turns out, Saoirse Ronan, who kickstarted her career around 20 years ago and already has many major accolade wins and nods to her name, wasn’t spared from this either.

Meryl Streep was sure her career would end at age 40 (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Picture this: Meryl Streep, two Oscars in hand, thinking her Hollywood run was about to hit a dead end. Yep, back in 1989, she genuinely believed turning 40 meant her career would tank. Even as she bagged the Best Actress award at Cannes for Evil Angels, she braced herself for Hollywood’s cold shoulder. Crazy, right?
Fast forward to 2024, and Streep spilled the whole truth while picking up an honorary Palme d’Or at Cannes. “Thirty-five years ago, I was a mom of three, about to turn 40, and thought my career was over,” she said. Why? Back then, actresses hitting 40 were pretty much written off. Streep figured she was next on the chopping block.
“All the evidence of other 40-year-old women at that time would lead you to believe it was over,” she once said. But let’s be...

As much as the Oscars are one of the major accolades for the talents in the entertainment industry, they are also an incredibly rare feat for many. This is because, while the Academy has acknowledged some of the most iconic stars, it has also left behind many others, despite their deserving to win – something like what happened between Emma Stone and Amy Adams.
Amy Adams. | Credits: Arrival / Paramount Pictures.
This goes back to 2017, down to the snub that continues to sting so brutally. Back then, while Stone truly deserved to win as she was nominated for Best Actress, so did Adams, who was so critically disrespected that she wasn’t even allowed a nomination in the category. To say the least, that particular snub stung so badly that it haunts the director, Denis Villeneuve, even now.

Hugh Grant’s Last 5 Films At The Worldwide Box Office ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Hugh Grant and his movies can still make women go weak in the knees with their charm and flamboyance. The actor is also exceptional in the comic genre, and now he is into playing characters completely different from his romantic personas on screen. His Heretic has been released in the theatres and received good reviews. The opening weekend is also looking pretty positive.
Hugh’s four decades of career have earned him multiple accolades, including a British Academy Film Award and a Golden Globe Award. He was also a recipient of an Honorary Cesar. In 2022, Time Out magazine listed him as one of Britain’s 50 greatest actors of all time. For the unversed, Grant made his acting debut in Privileged in 1982. He has won the BAFTA Award for Best Actor for his performance in Four Weddings and a Funeral.

Exclusive: Molly C. Quinn (Castle) and Cameron Cuffe (Krypton) have wrapped on The Weight, a psychological thriller marking the feature directorial debut of American Gods producer Sallyanne Massimini, who co-wrote the script with Thomas Care.
Shot in Ontario, Canada, with production led by Exit 44 Entertainment and Palo Pictures, the film centers on Mia (Quinn), who wakes up chained in a remote cabin, only to witness her captor, David (Cuffe), burying a body outside. Knowing she’ll be next, she breaks free and flees through treacherous cliffs and waterfalls while David, haunted by remorse and grief, pursues her relentlessly through the wilderness.
Ty Leisher (11th Hour Cleaning) and Eric Brodeur (The Haunting of the Mary Celeste) produced for Exit 44 Entertainment.
Stated Massimini, “Filming in freezing temperatures at a waterfall, the demanding physicality of Molly’s stunts and body burns, and the quick pivot to highly emotionally charged scenes with Cameron.

Every year, there are outstanding performances that horror fans have come to accept probably won’t get the awards recognition they deserve due to their genre. Obviously, there are notable exceptions; but for every Kathy Bates in “Misery,” there’s Toni Collette in “Hereditary.”
It’s unfortunate that horror isn’t held in higher esteem, as it’s genuinely one of the hardest to get right. It’s a tricky balance, and it can easily go awry. One false move and your over-the-top turns will be remembered for all the wrong reasons. This year, in particular, has been great not only for genre films but also for the actors in them. In a just world, here are some of this year’s actors who would be recognized by Oscar voters.
Hugh Grant, “Heretic”
Perhaps the strongest shot at breaking into the race, the always reliable Grant is perfectly cast as Mr.

Hugh Grant has scored another winner with Heretic. The actors new horror film was one of the darlings at this years Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), and the critics reviews have resulted in Heretic registering an impressive 93% on the Tomatometer against 60 reviews currently posted on Rotten Tomatoes. And his spine-tingling performance continues the actors incredible renaissance, which includes recent Grant must-sees with stellar Rt scores like 2017s Paddington (99%), 2023s Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (91%) and 2016s Florence Foster Jenkins (88%).
Anna Miller of DiscussingFilm raves about Grants Heretic in her review, and she scores the film 4 out of 5 stars. With some biblically accurate scares and bone-chilling tension, and the addition of one wickedly charming Hugh Grant, Heretic is the kind of idiosyncratic thriller/horror film that cannot be replicated, Miller writes. Ever since 2007, The Big Bang Theory made its debut on the small screen, and it has been hailed as one of the best sitcoms ever by TV series enthusiasts. While Jim Parsons’ Sheldon Cooper is the most prominent character from the show, Simon Helberg’s Howard Wolowitz added to the sitcom’s charm and wit. With quirky attire and unwavering confidence, Wolowitz was essential to the show’s success.
After 12 seasons of the show and countless laughs later, it is impossible to imagine someone else in the role. However, he had initially turned down the role, as he was done playing a nerd.

The Big Bang Theory has been wreaking havoc among viewers ever since it first started airing back in 2007, with all the guest celebrity appearances further adding stars to the already star-studded show. One of these very surprise arrivals was from none other than the incredibly legendary English theoretical physicist, cosmologist, and author: The late Stephen Hawking.

That said, the episode he appeared in also featured actor Simon Helberg, who played Howard Wolowitz in the fan-favorite series, making an impression of the late legend. However, the tough part here was the fact that the actor had to actually perform that very act in front of Hawking on the sets — something that Helberg was anything but okay with.

Hugh Grant almost replaced Charlie Sheen in the hit sitcom Two and a Half Men after he was fired from the series. Sheen had firmly established himself with the audience, making his replacement a challenging task for the showrunners.

While Ashton Kutcher eventually landed the opportunity and joined the series as Walden Schmidt starting in Season 9, the offer was initially made to the Wonka actor. Grant, however, denied the offer, as the makers did not present him with a script or a clear plan for the show’s future, leading him to step back from taking such a lucrative offer.

‘Heretic’ Trailer: Hugh Grant Torments ‘Yellowjackets’ Star Sophie Thatcher in Religious Horror Film

In September 2021, Olivia Colman bagged her first career Emmy for “The Crown” despite having failed on her Oscar bid for “The Father” five months earlier. This made her the 16th performer to triumph at the Emmys after going home empty-handed at the same year’s Oscars and the fourth to do so during the 21st century. The release of the 2024 Emmy nominations ballots confirmed that nine of the 16 actors who lost at the latest Oscars ceremony are capable of joining Colman on said list.
Gold Derby’s current Emmy odds indicate that the man and woman with the best hopes of following in Colman’s footsteps are Ryan Gosling and Jodie Foster, who just earned their respective third and fifth Academy Award notices for their supporting turns in “Barbie” and “Nyad.” They are now generally expected to share in the experience of being first-time acting Emmy nominees thanks to his...

Is Meryl Streep the greatest film performer of all time? According to Oscar voters over the past five decades, that might just be the case with her record-shattering 21 nominations and three wins. But her filmography is filled with gems that didn’t get any awards buzz. Tour through our photo gallery of Streep’s 27 greatest performances ranked from worst to best.
Streep snagged her first Oscar nomination as Best Supporting Actress for “The Deer Hunter” (1978) and picked up her first trophy in that category the very next year for “Kramer vs. Kramer” (1979). She subsequently snagged two prizes in the lead category (“Sophie’s Choice” in 1982 and “The Iron Lady” in 2011) and competed 17 more times: Best Actress for “The French Lieutenant’s Woman” (1981), “Silkwood” (1983), “Out of Africa” (1985), “Ironweed” (1987), “A Cry in the Dark” (1988), “Postcards from the Edge” (1990), “The Bridges of Madison County” (1995), “One True Thing” (1998), “Music of the Heart” (1999), “The Devil Wears Prada...

Hollywood isn’t generally going great, even for experts like Hugh Grant. Recently, he spilled the beans on feeling nervous working with three highly coveted actresses. One of them is Kate Winslet, known for her mind-blowing acting chops, who caused the 63-year-old to feel a little jittery.
Hugh Grant in Love Actually
Then there’s Nicole Kidman, and Meryl Streep, two more stalwart entertainers who were included along with the remaining blend of nerves. These leading women certainly had Grant feeling the strain. It’s interesting to hear what the actor had to say about sharing the screen with these Hollywood symbols.

[Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers through Episode 4 of “The Regime.”]
Kate Winslet has only one Academy Award, but good luck telling Hugh Grant that.
Created by “Succession” writer Will Tracy, HBO’s “The Regime” is a dark political satire about an authoritarian country and its dangerously squirrely ruler. The venomous Chancellor Elena Vernham is a scene-stealing TV character who gifts Winslet ample acting opportunity.
Winslet always delivers — be it through the text-heavy speeches given to Elena’s constituency, a handful of bespoke musical theater moments (complete with flawless costumes), or the crowning jewel episode that sees Vernham meet with ex-Chancellor turned prisoner Ed Keplinger. That’s Grant.
“I’ve barely seen her for 30 years since ‘Sense and Sensibility,’ and I was a bit frightened of her now,” Grant told IndieWire; he gives a shaggily chic performance as a flirty and shifty academic with a life framed in underground dystopia. “I mean, God almighty, she’s got about 400 Oscars and is revered.

Academy Award-winning producer Daniel Dreifuss (“All Quiet on the Western Front”) has boarded “Red Men,” the latest feature from Mexico’s Hari Sama, best known for his lauded autobiographical pic “This is not Berlin,” which world premiered at Sundance in 2019.
Described as an “edgy and provocative coming-of-age story” about the life of Austrian expressionist painter Egon Schiele, “Red Men” hones in on Schiele’s role in reshaping European aesthetics through his intimate relationship with lover and muse, Dominik Van Osen.
Their bond inspired Schiele’s pioneering Expressionist style while also compelling the young artist to confront his sexually fluid identity amidst repressive laws banning homosexuality in turn-of-the-century Vienna. This romantic saga delves into the emotional complexities of two artistic companions turned lovers, which drove Egon’s artistic vision while he struggled to navigate society’s norms. Schiele, whose provocative art was known for its contorted body shapes and dramatic lines,...

Dune: Part Two star Rebecca Ferguson recently revealed that she was screamed at on the set of a film early in her career by a huge star. The actress mentioned that she later told the star to “F off” after the altercation and refused to work with them, which drew flack from the producers as the other actor was ‘Call Sheet No.1’.
While Ferguson did not reveal who the screamer was, the Internet has gone with speculations. The actress assured that it was neither Tom Cruise nor Hugh Jackman while Dwayne Johnson, her Hercules co-star seemingly cleared his name. A recent clip with Star Wars star Ewan McGregor showed Ferguson being extremely comfortable with the actor, clearing his name too.

Emma Stone has a dream, and not one you’d expect. The “Poor Things” star, coming off a Golden Globe win this week, tells Variety‘s Awards Circuit Podcast that she wants to be a contestant on the classic game show “Jeopardy” — and no, not the “Celebrity” edition.
“I apply every June,” she says. “I don’t want to go on ‘Celebrity Jeopardy.’ I want to earn my stripes. You can only take the test once a year with your email address, and I’ve never gotten on the show. I watch it every single night and I mark down how many answers I get right. I swear, I could go on ‘Jeopardy.'”
Stone could be the second woman nominated for producing and acting in the same year following Frances McDormand for “Nomadland” (2020), who won both. In addition, she could be the second actress to receive Oscar nods for...

December 2003. Twenty years ago. It was a special time for moviegoers. That’s because it was the first holiday season in which “Love Actually” could actually be part of one’s Christmas time festivities. (Richard Curtis‘ ensemble romantic comedy was still playing to healthy crowds in cinemas.)
While the film would not figure into that year’s Academy Awards race, the cast did feature a handful of past Oscar contenders — and a few winners. Sho which “Love Actually” cast member will be next to earn an Oscar nomination?
The most noticeable of those winners was Emma Thompson, 1992’s Best Actress for “Howards End.” She tried (unsuccessfully) for acting awards three more times, including for 1995’s “Sense and Sensibility.” For penning that script, she accepted the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar for superbly adapting the classic novel by Jane Austen.

In some ways, the nominations for the 81st Golden Globe Awards did seem like a breath of fresh air compared to the dismal nomination choices of past years. For ages, the beleaguered awards fixture has been a punchline for inexplicable nominations that seemed to emphasize star power over anything else. Remember when The Tourist was nominated for Best Picture - Musical or Comedy? How about when the 2005 edition of the ceremony nominated the remake of The Producers for Best Picture - Musical or Comedy? Then there was the 74th Golden Globe line-up for Best Picture - Musical or Comedy, which placed La La Land and 20th Century Women alongside titles like Florence Foster Jenkins and Deadpool. Most notably, of course, there are the long-standing criticisms of the Golden Globes and its perceived exclusion of works by people of color.

Ryan Gosling is one of the biggest contenders for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar this year for his role as Ken in Greta Gerwig‘s smash hit “Barbie.” The Warner Bros. movie follows Margot Robbie‘s titular Barbie as she leaves Barbie Land for the real world in search of answers after suffering an existential crisis. Gosling’s performance as Ken has brought him plenty of plaudits, leading to a strong case for Best Supporting Actor in this year’s Oscars race.
However, this isn’t the first Oscars race Gosling has been in as he’s received two Academy Award nominations before. Let’s take a look back at them.
Gosling was first nominated in 2007 when he received a Best Actor notice for “Half Nelson,” which follows Gosling as a junior high school teacher with a drug habit. Gosling’s teacher forms a friendship with one of his students...

The Last of Us episode 6 featured a surprise reunion for two actors who starred in a beloved 1990s TV show. Bill and Frank made a huge impression on viewers when they lived out their tragic arc in The Last of Us episode 3. The couple that appeared in the opening moments of The Last of Us episode 6 may not have gotten as much screen time as Bill and Frank, but they certainly had their own impact, especially to fans of a certain 1990s TV show.
The couple in question is of course Marlon and Florence, whom Ellie and Joel encounter in a fun scene at the beginning of the latest Last of Us episode.

Oscar-winning actor Helen Mirren refused to address the controversy around her casting as Israel’s iconic Prime Minister Golda Meir in Guy Nattiv’s biopic during the movie’s press conference at the Berlinale.
When asked to comment on the backlash and the issue of authentic casting, Mirren left it to Nattiv and her co-star Lior Ashkenazi (“Footnote”) to stand up for her while she smiled shyly.
Mirren is neither Israeli nor Jewish, and critics have argued that she shouldn’t have been cast as Israel’s most important female figure.
Nattiv said that when he met Mirren, he instantly felt like he was in the presence of a “family member” — an “aunt” who had the “Jewish chops to portray Golda.”
“We spoke about that for hours. She totally got everything, every nook and cranny, everything in this character,” he continued. Surrounding Mirren with an Israeli cast was a crucial step,...

Skin is a subject Israeli-American director Guy Nattiv touches on frequently in his work. He has directed no fewer than two (unrelated) films titled “Skin,” one feature-length, one short. The former, which premiered in Toronto in 2018, saw Jamie Bell win rave reviews as a white supremacist who tortuously has his tattoos lasered off after managing to break away from the Neo-Nazi cult that raised him. The latter, which Nattiv produced alongside his wife, Jaime Ray Newman, won the Oscar for live action short in 2019.
Now Nattiv returns with “Golda,” his first feature since Toronto and another character study, this time of Israel’s fourth prime minister, Golda Meir, who is played by Helen Mirren. The film, which also stars Liev Schreiber and Camille Cottin, is set during the 1973 Yom Kippur war, when a coalition of Arab states launched a surprise attack on Israel on the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is one step closer to casting one of the most complicated characters from the comics. Recent rumors have contended that the Sentry may be the threat that the Thunderbolts are called together to face in their upcoming team-up film, which is set to close out Phase 5 in 2024. While these Thunderbolts rumors have so far gone unconfirmed by Kevin Feige and the executives at Marvel Studios, Sentry, like any other recognizable Marvel hero, will inevitably join the franchise in the not-too-distant future, raising the question of which actor may step into the surprisingly complex role of Robert Reynolds.
Rumors of Sentry's presence have made Thunderbolts one of Marvel's most exciting upcoming movies, especially given the character's rich history in Marvel Comics. The Sentry, otherwise known as Robert Reynolds, is an immensely powerful being designed as Marvel's modern answer to Superman. Despite his incredible strength and abilities, Bob...

Armor Wars will explore the character of James "Rhodey" Rhodes in more depth, according to Don Cheadle. Introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2008's Iron Man as Tony Stark's long-suffering best friend, Rhodey was originally played by Terrence Howard before Cheadle took up the role for Iron Man 2 in 2010. Cheadle has portrayed Rhodey ever since, earning the moniker of War Machine in Iron Man 2 and fighting alongside Stark in that film and many thereafter. While Rhodey has been around since Phase 1 of the MCU, he has never headlined a solo-film or gotten a television series, which finally changed when Armor Wars was announced in 2020.
Armor Wars was originally set to become part of the growing Disney+ Marvel television catalog, announced as a six-episode limited series. However, the project was reported to have been retooled into a feature-length film in September due to creative changes and the demands of the story.
