Exclusive: Wise Child Studios, the recently launched production company of Jason Beekman and Ryan Miller, has announced the formation of the Wise Child Collective, a group of creatives from across the country that will aim to help both individual artists and small companies overcome obstacles in getting projects off the ground.

Creatives participating in the inaugural 2025-27 Collective include director and showrunner Lisa Bryant (Netflix’s Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich and Ghislaine Maxwell: Filthy Rich); Emmy-winning producer and director Paul Burger (Nat Geo’s Trafficked With Mariana van Zeller); and Emmy-winning director and showrunner Amy Bucher.

Warner Bros Discovery (Wbd) has launched a new free, ad-supported streaming television (Fast) channel that offers documentaries and docuseries from its cable news brand CNN.

The channel, called CNN Originals, debuted this week on Plex and Amazon platforms Prime Video, Fire TV and Freevee. A CNN spokesperson said additional platforms will offer CNN Originals over the next few days, but didn’t reveal which Fast platforms will distribute it.

CNN Originals first debuted as an audio-only channel on SiriusXM satellite and streaming radio. It is the third Fast channel to be offered by the cable network, which also operates CNN Headlines in the United States and CNN Fast in other markets.

CNN launched a new free, ad-supported streaming channel on Wednesday that features content from the network’s original series library.

Audiences in the U.S. and internationally will have Fast channel access to CNN original programming starting on Wednesday. The channel will include a variety of original series programming, combined into a linear stream.

The CNN Originals included at launch are “Amanpour: Sex and Love Around the World,” “Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown,” “Chasing Life with Dr. Sanjay Gupta,” “Diana,” “Lincoln: Divided We Stand,” “Soundtracks: Songs That Defined History,” “This is Life with Lisa Ling,” “The Wonder List with Bill Weir,” “United Shades of America with W. Kamau Bell,” and more.

Currently, these programs are only available for streaming on the Max platform.

The veteran news executive was one of three who took the reins at the Warner Bros. Discovery news outlet when Jeff Zucker, the previous chief, was forced out in February of last year after acknowledging a romantic relationship with Allison Gollust, once CNN’s chief marketing officer. Now Entelis will be part of a new trio leading the news giant after the Wednesday departure of former CEO Chris Licht.

The challenges facing CNN have not diminished. Award-winning journalist and producer Lisa Ling has been named a CBS News contributor, where she will contribute distinctive reporting and feature pieces across the network’s broadcasts and platforms.

“Lisa delivers some of the most authentic, human and revealing interviews because of how she embeds with communities and the people she covers. Discovery-based cable-news outlet canceled her documentary program, “This Is Life,” will join CBS News as a contributor, says co-president Neeraj Khemlani. “If you look at her work over the years, she is really excellent at embedding with communities,” says the executive, in an interview. “You can only do that if you are afforded time and resources that fits with the kind of storytelling that we do.”

The CNN Originals hub debuted on Discovery+ on Friday, as the new home for the news channel’s streaming library following the abrupt closure of CNN+.

The hub was announced earlier this month, and features over 800 episodes of content from CNN Original Series, CNN Films, and Hln Original Series. Additional content will be added after their linear run on the CNN cable networks.

Some of the original content that appeared on CNN+ has popped up elsewhere. The documentary The Last Movie Stars, about Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, debuted this summer on HBO Max. Chris Wallace’s talk show, one of the marquee offerings, will return in September on CNN on Sunday nights and on HBO Max.

Update, 11:45 am: Woman In Motion, a feature documentary honoring Star Trek alum Nichelle Nichols, has been uploaded to the International Space Station and has been made available to NASA employees to mark Women’s Equality Day. The film, from Stars North films, Shout! Studios and Concourse Media, is available for astronauts aboard the International Space Station to watch at any time, and to NASA employees and contractors to view until September 6.

Directed by Todd Thompson, the film chronicles how Nichols transformed her sci-fi television stardom into a real-life science career when she embarked on a campaign to bring diversity to NASA in 1977.

In honor of Women’s Equality Day (August 26), HBO Max announces the launch of its “So She Did” campaign, which champions the network’s female pioneers in front of and behind the camera.

The campaign kicks off with a film that celebrates the women who have been told they are “too much” and break all the rules to be who they authentically are.

The film features nine female-identifying talent: Jordan Alexander (“Gossip Girl”), Laura Donnelly (“The Nevers”), Susie Essman (“Curb Your Enthusiasm”), Myha’la Herrold (“Industry”), Martha Plimpton (“Generation”), Lisa Ling (CNN’s “This is Life with Lisa Ling”), Hannah Einbinder (“Hacks”), Zion Moreno (“Gossip Girl”) and Eyricka Lanvin (“Legendary”).

Ling kicks off the promo video, saying “When we were little, they told us we could be anything.”

CNN and Hln unveiled a slate of programming for 2020-21, a lineup of series and non-fiction projects that include biographies of Abraham Lincoln, Marilyn Monroe and History of Sitcom.

The network already has announced several projects for 2020, including The Story of Late Night and First Ladies, as well as a series for 2021, Searching for Italy with Stanley Tucci.

Lisa Ling, the former “View” co-host who currently emcees “This Is Life with Lisa Ling” on CNN, has inked an overall deal with forthcoming streaming service HBO Max.

As part of the deal, which marks an expansion of Ling’s relationship with CNN and HBO Max parent company WarnerMedia, HBO Max has given the greenlight to her travel docuseries “Birth, Wedding, Funeral.” HBO Max will also have a first look at new projects Ling develops.

Inspired by a concept from legendary journalist Dan Rather, the docuseries will immerse viewers in a different country each episode and deal with their cultures through the lens of the three universal rituals — births, weddings, and funerals.

WarnerMedia has named three senior executives to its original non-fiction team at streaming service HBO Max ahead of the platform’s 2020 debut, tapping Brett Boydstun, Lizzie Fox, and Rebecca Quinn to shape the division’s programming.

“Non-fiction storytelling will be a crucial component to HBO Max and we now have the leadership and team in place to bring the best this genre has to offer to our offering,” said HBO Max chief content officer Kevin Reilly in a release.

Fox will serve as senior vice president of non-fiction programming, and Quinn has been named vice president of non-fiction original programming, with both execs reporting to HBO Max executive VP of original non-fiction and kids Jennifer O’Connell. Boydstun will serve as senior VP of non-fiction production and will report to HBO Max production senior VP Mark Weissman. Together they will be responsible for creating non-fiction original programming for the streamer.

When CNN was getting ready to launch Anthony Bourdain’s “Parts Unknown” in 2013, newly appointed president Jeff Zucker joked that viewers would see the series again and again as CNN used it to offset the slow news periods when its audience often evaporated.

As indie production outlet Part2 Pictures celebrates its first 10 years, the company’s approach to documentary storytelling — premium content with high production values — has moved more into the mainstream.

“We have been doing what people now call ‘premium’ from the beginning,” says Amy Bucher, Part2 senior vice president of programming and content. “It’s as natural to us as air and water. We just think that’s the way you should tell stories.”

Lisa Ling has worked with Part2 for the better part of a decade, first with five seasons of “Our America With Lisa Ling” that aired on Own, and now with “This Is Life With Lisa Ling” for CNN. She believes the audience for such premium content in which Part2 specializes has always been there, but the current real estate between traditional networks and streamers have helped provide a larger platform.

CNN and Hulu have struck a content deal for six series and two films produced by the network, the two companies announced on Monday.

This is the first such deal between CNN and Hulu for CNN Films, the network’s brand for nonfiction documentaries, and the second deal with CNN Original Series, the network’s brand for nonfiction series content.

CNN Original Series previously sold streaming rights to Hulu for Race For The White House from executive producers Kevin Spacey and Dana Brunetti.

This expanded deal for series content includes The History Of Comedy (Season 1), United Shades Of America With W.
